- Though, there are racing games on the PS3 that destroy Mario Kart 8 visually.

- Having a cartoony art style allows you to achieve decent looking visuals without having to push as many polygons.

- You'd probably come at me with Gran Turismo with its N64 trees and Ps2 car models or something, even then the games are not even remotely comparable. What is comparable is Need for speed Most Wanted, in which the Wii U version has the PC's textures and totally redone night lighting and better performance. Link A launch window port.

- But that doesn't mean a "cartoony" game can't be advanced. In Mario 3d world everything in that game looks very round (no jagged edges from lack of polys) and detailed.

Doesn't matter what type of game you try and compare, Wii U is simply a more capable machine than Ps3.

- Sony never made a Kart Racer for the PS3.

- Only you and maybe 5 other people think Black Flag for the Wii U looks better than TLOU and Killzone 2-3.

- Modnation racers, LBP karting (both of which are less impressive than Sonic racing on Ps3)

- I guess you did a case study on that one? lol Black flag looks great. Awesome water, and some nice detail in an open world setting.

Killzone is a post processed mess and tlou looks and runs worse than Uncharted 3. Really don't like how TLOU looks actually, It's muddled and over saturated.

How can you forget to bring up Xenoblade Chronicles X?

I never said the system itself wasn't more capable, learn to read.

I said Nintendo themselves haven't pushed the console to its max yet.

The terrain is impressive, but the character models are lackluster and the map in general is pretty barren.

Not out yet :P

Plus Xenoblade's character models are more of an anime style, so black flag was a better comparison. But it's kind of impressive, minus some things like rotating foliage and clipping. But given the massive size of the game it's understandable.

You said "Show me one game on the Wii U that looks like Killzone 2/3, or TLOU." Which has nothing to do with what Nintendo's getting out of the hardware. It seemed like in general you thought Wii U wasn't more capable. "to its max yet" it's not even been out for 3 years and there's always room for improvement so that's saying nothing.

You say that, but all you have is conjecture based on that if a game is cartoony, it can get away with less polygons, therefore Nintendo's Mario Kart 8 and 3D world or whatever the game, aren't pushing the system.

You've said nothing specifically why Nintendo's 1080p and or 60fps games aren't pushing the system as much as a sub30fps post processed games on the Ps3, other than that they are cartoony.

Right now I really don't think Nintendo is being held back from hardware.. But a sheer lack of third party support and a abysmal online service.. Even with that Nintendo has been able to keep it's identity.. PS4 and XboxOne though just feel like glorified closed below entry level computer systems more than anything else now.. They largely share the biggest titles between each other, with minuscule difference.. And what exclusives there are, are not very unique any more in which there are numerous substitutes for them... This is a far cry from what the PS3 and Xbox360 were during the first year out..

Do you honestly believe Mario Kart 8 is pushing as many, or more polygons than the premium cars in Gran Turismo 6? Please, you can't be that naive.

Generally, cartoony visuals are less taxing on the GPU than games that push for realism.

@Chozofication: Well, I do have more to say but nothing so consequential that it'd warrant the effort. Thanks for the exchange. :)

The wii u released a whole gen after the ps360 and is barely more powerful, if at all.

@augustevans: I think NX will be the same way. But you never know, Nintendo might have something up their sleeve, they are always thinking outside the box.

I found what Iwata said here to be quite interesting.

I don't see them changing their philosophies in regards to designing hardware changing anytime soon.

@augustevans: I need them, i cant stand playing the same way, its unhealthy the doctor says, doctors says we need to evolve as a gamer or we will lose our ability to game.

Ive been working on my posture with my Wii U balance board, its been doing wonders for my well being. Also my Wii U Fit game has been a nice surprise, i feel its adding to my gaming years.

It depends on cartoony visuals.

To be fair that is a tech demo and not a full fledged game.

If the Wii U was pulling off Pixar level visuals then obviously that would be a whole different ball game entirely.

It does have more memory, but the CPU is a huge bottleneck. I also doubt the Wii U's GPU has even 2x the performance of the 360's GPU.

360 has a lot of theoretical power, but the pipelines that connects the CPU to GPU (I'm recalling an article from several years ago) has MASSIVE latency. The amount of theoretical power never translate to good performance due to the bottleneck. The Wii U can achieve much more actual power due to smaller latency (not as much as Xbone/PS4, let alone PC).
