So me and my friends were walking downtown today when we noticed Microsoft rented out a building for a kinect showing. Having nothing to do we went in to test it out.
What was there:
Kinect Sports
Kinect Adventures
Kinectimals
Kinect Racing
Kinect Fit (?)
Kinect Dancing game
Alright, so heres how it went:
Kinect's games were clearly casual - so significantly that I dont remember any console game with a controller being this casual. Nothing was deep in any way.
Bowling almost played itself when you actually aligned to the 'purposely angled camera' (Came in 3rd in the tourny for the entire night, Dr. Awesome).
Kinect Adventures - we had the most fun with this one actually. It wasnt deep, and it probably wont have any lasting appeal, but we played it twice and I accidently smacked my friend across the face thinking we were further apart (based on the characters on screen).
Kinectimals - no, you cant kick the tiger. You cant beat him, you cant do anything harmful. Most of the actions didnt make sense and the only things we did that worked were purposely acting retarded or gay Jazz hands seemed to make the tiger do a 2 legged stand for some reason.
Kinect Racing - dry humping the air makes you go faster. The controls were very strange some times, with turning not being as precise as it should be.
Kinect fit - didnt play
Kinect Dancing game - We got half way through funky town before stopping. We just felt retarded to be honest - didnt help that we sucked at the game. We got points for actions not even close to what we were supposed to do - and our timing was just awful on top of that.
Kinect Sports - Bowling I mentioned - but it was nowhere near as bad as ping pong. You really had little control over where the ball goes or the power. completely missing the ball still counted as a hit - and sometimes swinging way too early worked too. Some motions werent even registered.
Kinect - It was laggy, buggy, and very very imprecise. The cursor would have some acceleration and great lag - so just accessing the menu was broken sometimes. It would often mistake my friends hand for mine when they went to close and the cursor would jitter around the place. Im sure we all predicted this.
Overall its heavily casual, imprecise, laggy, and not very efficient. Its not hypable - and there doesnt seem to be many hard core uses for it. That said, we had some fun with it but we dont expect the fun to last long.
Ps. Oreo cakesters suck.
