"the reason you can find PS3s on shelves and not Wiis is because Sony is supplying more week-to-week than Nintendo. Sony is damed if they do (supply enough) and damned if they don't. Blah blah blah".

Then we get the January sales numbers and find out that Wii outsold PS3 almost 2:1 in January. That shows that Nintendo was supplying more, but STILL couldn't even come close to meeting demand. I've been trying to buy a Wii since launch and still haven't been able to get one because they still sell out immediately. On the weekend a guy at Futureshop told me that when they get a new shipment they're all gone within half an hour. As recently as a few weeks ago there were still instances of people lined up waiting for the store to open when new Wii shipments came in.

Yet with Sony and the PS3, they're selling FAR fewer consoles, and you can still walk into a store at 8pm and buy consoles that were shipped that morning. This is when Wiis are gone by noon.

There is no positive way to spin this cows. Stop trying to put some PR rhetoric on this. It's all bad for Sony and their fans.

I know I've been saying this a lot, but anyone who truly believed Sony would win January (Febuary as well) is really naive. In March the sales might pick up, but honestly it wouldn't surprise me for them to stay the same or even dip to the lower 200k's during the summer. This fall/winter, the sales will be in Sony's favor, boasting 500-800K monthly. That's my analysis.

Oh, and don't forget, the PS3 is still in "shortage," although Jack Tretton assures us this will be taken care of by May.

I'm positive retailers are hording Wiis, I got a Wii a month ago and it had the new wrist band in the box. My friend bought one from the same store this week and it was the old one. Maybe just a fluke, but that could explain the high sales numbers and low shelf counts, because "sold" means to retailers.

Look, the fact is, PS3s are selling, and will continue to sell. They sold more PS3s this year than 360s did at this time last year. That is it's true competition. I travel all over, east and west coasts, I've seen stacks of 360s sitting at Best Buys week after week, and I've seen some places with 2 or 3 PS3s and some with zero. It varies by location. It's the same with every console that has ever came out, the only exception ever was the PS2, that was genuinely hard to get a hold of. Still only took me 4 months. But I have always got a console on launch day or a few months later with out really trying.

As for the Wii sales numbers, this is not a DS vs. PSP situtation, the high demand for Wiis will subside and Nintendo will settle back into it's 3rd place spot.

I disagree, the 360 and PS3 are high definition entertainment systems. My wife has a Wii and she seems to like it. It's fun for parties and stuff but nothing I really consider a real gaming system like the 360 or the PS3. Some gaming, especially many shooters and such, can be considered an adult hobby. Wii doesn't serve that purpose. It's like taking those plastic kid's golf clubs to the US Open.

Nintendo's doing a pretty great job, they're in second place in the U.S. Open using kid's golf clubs.

LOL. Why would they hoard Wiis? They buy them to sell them. You lose.

Nope. The Wiis library will only get stronger over time. The price will eventually drop. And it will eventually have online gaming. There's no reason for demand to fall. You lose again.

A "real gaming system" is a toy. A gaming system plays games. Games are toys.

Some gaming, especially many shooters and such, can be considered an adult hobby.

Wii already has several shooters, with many more on the way. Wrong again.

Nintendo is doing a fantastic job. They are one of the best run companies in the world and they should be commended for it. However, that doesn't mean I'm not wrong. Britney Spears sold more albums than Jimmie Hendrix, but one is for kids and the other isn't. Unless you have really cool kids.

Actually, I turned 30 two days ago. At this age gaming is considered more of a hobby. Something to do when you don't have to mow the yard, bring work home, or listen to my wife rant and rave about things I dont' care about. I want the best experience possible. That means a 56" 1080p set, decent home theater setup, etc. If I want to make the best use of those things then a Wii simply doesn't do it justice. It's expensive but at this stage in my life I really don't care anymore.

I love it how people are going overboard about a subject (overall hardware sales) that really only matters towards the end of a platforms life cycle. The TurboGrafx 16 failed in America because about 2 years after it's launch, it just wasn't selling all that well. But from 1989-1991, you could get great games to play and the machine was readily available on the shelves during it's entire lifespan. I was even there at the NYC launch as a kid and it seemed pretty lackluster during that exclusive launch day weeks before the full US launch. Same thing with the 3DO, after the first 2 years, you just knew it was dead...

But 4 months in? You people have got to be kidding me.

Now I know why some game companies focus all on graphics and less on gameplay. They can sell them to people like this. I don't watch Family Guy anymore because 'Father Of The Pride' looked so much better! /sarcasm

All videogames are toys. Even teh Cell!!1!!11

Open using kid's golf clubs.

so, you are married man, and yet you say you dont want a wii because its for 13 year olds and its a toy. lol, watever.

by sexually attracted to yourself i mean you think you're hot and want to **** yourself in the ass. that's what being narcissist (sp?) entails, don't you know. i dont know why you used that word, but yeah.

You're confusing Narcissus (a figure from greek mythology who was literally sexually attracted to himself) with clinical narcissistic behavior which entails conceipt, vanity, over inflated view of one's opinion, egotism, and elitism.

The Oshawa way or the Hamilton way? Anyways, since you're in Southern Ontario you'll probably know where Lindsay is. They have quit a few (around 10 or so).

What's all bad? Wii = fun, somewhat new, NOT AT ALL long lasting, PS3 = Built for now and built for future.

I'm positive retailers are hording WiisNumber_1_Gamer

LOL. Why would they hoard Wiis? They buy them to sell them. You lose.

As for the Wii sales numbers, this is not a DS vs. PSP situtation, the high demand for Wiis will subside and Nintendo will settle back into it's 3rd place spot.

Nope. The Wiis library will only get stronger over time. The price will eventually drop. And it will eventually have online gaming. There's no reason for demand to fall. You lose again.

your logic goes the other way also with the ps 3. it not like every ps 3 game is going to suck.

I'm positive retailers are hording Wiis, I got a Wii a month ago and it had the new wrist band in the box. My friend bought one from the same store this week and it was the old one. Maybe just a fluke, but that could explain the high sales numbers and low shelf counts, because "sold" means to retailers.michaelareb0001

Actually, Nintendo only announces amounts sold to customers.  Sony announced shipped.

Yeah, really? For who? Because my friends had them, I had one. We'd sit around and compare the FZ1 to the FZ10 and the Sanyo unit...So the price argument only applies to specific sectors of the market. Not mine.
