Now I see where the sale went wrong (then again it was obvious from the start).Well now, look what we have here:

And the TC calls the consumers uneducated.

If it was your job to sell 360s would you still try to talk them out of it?
Keep on doing what you do on your job, man.
(even though your job as a salesman is supposed to be SELLING your items)
Really don't see how this is System Wars Material though, sounds more like a blog.

Well whoever is saying " TC lost a sale " in this thread is obviously fit to work with all big name companies Activison/ Microsoft and so on. Because Sales >> Customer Satisfaction. Right?harshv82
i dont think the lady wanted to buy two 3DS's for herself. Probably for her kids or something

No it's more of doing your job.
When you work as a sales accosiate, you usually try to sell an item.
Although that doesn't mean you can't give an opinion if asked.

You're implying that the woman will come back to at that store to buy it and that she will choose to do so.
Fact is he stopped two 3DS' sales and those are worth a lot. If I was his boss I would have been really pissed that he just stopped 300+ money coming in.

Exactly, But she will go to him next time the Sony Vita comes out. Or maybe after purchase she realizes that it was a **** deal and never go back to that store? Yeah that would help your boss too. :)Good for you? You do know that it is your job as an employee to PUSH sales of things, not stop them, right? foxhound_foxyep my thoughts exactly then again this is system wars
At last I found someone honest. I am glad the TC stopped the sale, since 3DS's doesnt seem very bright, even with the price drop.
She sounds finnicky and unsure of what she was buying or wanting to buy. She could be easily lead astray.
I loaded up my friend's Xbox 360 with C4 explosives which created a bunch of radioactive monkeys which then waged a war against all Xbox 360 owners with Sony peripherals and then conquered the area for their Banana god.
Why don't I start a thread?
so a salesman who works at futureshop (not you) sells her a 3ds and some games, he is happy YES i sold some expensive stuff i love commision, the lady then goes to cashier (you) and you talk her out of it, i wonder how the sales man now feels about that, congrats on loosing a mans sale at futureshop, even if he did not get commision congrats on making his job somewhat useless at the time!
fact: 3ds IS the latest hand held, PSV is coming out next year and when asked this is the latest handheld you say not really? LOL..||
ps3 is the latest console, oh sorry not really!!

I work at futureshop and I was running the front cash today. A lady came up to me with 2 3DS's in hand and around 5 games. I was scanning them into the computer and making small talk when she asked me "So these are the latest handheld's hey?". I resonded with "Not exactly, this is the latest offering from nintendo but sony will be releasing a new PSP early next year". She seemed puzzled so I gave her details on the Playstation Vita and how it compared to the 3DS in tech and games, I also gave her playstation's website so she could do some research of her own. Needless to say after hearing about the Vita I had to void the purchase because she had completley changed her mind. This brings me to the point of this thread, are DS, DSi and 3DS sales sucsessful due to gimmicky advertising and uneducated buyers? As soon as this woman knew there was a more technologically advanced handheld on the way she wanted me to cancel her purchase. I think sony needs to do a better job of advertising the Vita, somthing along the lines of a huge advertising campain that shouldve started right before the 3DS's price drop. Thoughts?

u know u will get fired if ur boss finds out that you convinced people no to buy from your store

Or maybe after purchase she realizes that it was a **** deal and never go back to that store? Yeah that would help your boss too. :)Sorry but that's not how that works. Too much emphasis on assumptions. We know that a woman was ready to buy 2 high priced products from the store and after talking to an employee decided not to. There is really no good way to spin that to a superior.
I know if I was working in the office (at my old job) and a client decided not to hire my boss after listening to me, he would have told me to take a hike, directly or indirectly.
hey tc what if she was a secret shopper. have you ever heard of that. then when she writes a bad review of ur store, u loose sales and u be fired
The successful sales of anything are related to gimmicky advertising and uneducated buyers. These two things go hand in hand. Very rarely is the best product the most successful one, because the best product has its funding put into development, while the successful one has its funding put into advertising to convince people that it's the best developed product.
And so, we go round and round in an endless cycle of stagnant markets and unfulfilled dreams of a better world.

Why would him informing his customers of other products available and helping them to make an educated decision lead to a bad review?

If she just went up to the counter and purchased them only to be later very disappointed in them, then she would still shop at the store in all likelihood. However, she asked for input from one of the employees.
Being told whatever it takes to make a sale is not something people appreciate, and not shopping there again is exactly how it works.
People to remember the way salesmen behave at the stores they go to, and good customer service is a rare thing to find these days, and, if found, is likely to be held on to by that customer.
while I understand you are just trying to give your opinion which is what the customer asked for, it sounds like you didn't really try to talk up the 3DS at all. You should've really given her on all the information on both products (Vita is more powerful, but will be more expensive. 3DS doesn't have many games now, but has some good stuff hitting during the holidays. Vita won't be out for another 5 - 6 months. Vita is probably better for teens/young adults, 3DS is aimed at a younger audience... etc etc).
For those that are saying he should've drove home the sale... this isn't a used car lot. I worked at a Gamestop for a year and most of the customers that shopped at our little store did so mainly because they didn't know anything about videogames and wanted to go to a store where the employees would (and could) andswer thier questions. Otherwise they would all just go to the Best Buy down the street, or the Toys r Us a block away. Most specialty stores need customers to trust them otherwise there are plenty of other options.
Ok Mr Mario Avatar. You need to calm down. She didnt buy tthe 3DS's and there is nothing you can do about it. I explained the better console to her and she being a smart individual made the educated choice of which to buy for herself. I was on cash too no commission for me from that sale, come to think of it even if there was I still would have done the same thing.[QUOTE="specialzed"][QUOTE="painguy1"]
lol u dont understand how all this works do? dont try to steer this the other way. U made a big mistake. u best just admit that u messed up. ur personal opinion should stay at home.
painguy1
bro u dont even know me. let me fill u in. my PC & 360 library overshadows my Wii library, and I do plan on getting a Vita. I already preordered it. I had a DS, but gave it away. I kept my PSP, and I still have it. Ever heard of not judging a book by its cover?
You didn't explain anything to her. U imposed ur opinion onto her. U took advantage of the fact that she wasn't a gamer & swayed her away from buying 2 3DS's & some games. Which would have brought in more money than a single PSP. Once she figures out how much a Vita costs she isn't coming back ESPECIALLY to buy 2 of them.
And Im not surprised by that. I see ppl like u at game stores all the time. U don't really care about ur job. U let ur fanboyism take priority over ur job.
What were u thinking coming here & bragging about such a thing? Did u think u'd become king of the cows or something? There are ppl here criticizing ur move who dont have a nintendo related avatar so what do u have to say to them?
First up, like the Mario pic you have, one of the better ones i've seen around here.
Thing is, TC lost a sale for the store, for an expensive console thats coming out next year, that won't have many great games for the first 8 months (tradition for any new console) and TC doesn't even know if she'll come back to that store/company to buy.
Yeah, I can't stand high street games stores. THANK GOD for online stores. They're either giving you an opinion you didn't ask for or judging you on what you're buying.
When it comes to handhelds, it's not about power, Nintendo handhelds are for everyone. We don't even know how Vita will turn out when it comes to the thing that matters, the games.
Plus you just disappointed whoever she was buying the console for. DUDE you probably made someone cry lol, who couldn't care less about tech specs. And Nintendo gaming like it or is something no one else has been able to replicate.
At the very least you could have said, i'd get one 3DS now and look into the Vita in the future.
The Vita is for hardcore gamers by Sonys own admission and it doesn't sound like she's a hardcore gamer.
This brings me to the point of this thread, are DS, DSi and 3DS sales sucsessful due to gimmicky advertising and uneducated buyers?

yup, its basically this.
Lol you are a terrible salesman, 3DS IS the latest handheld on the market. Vita comes out NEXT year and not released so you cant count that device yet, sure if it was coming out in a week or two it is understandable but this is just wrong. You are supposed to sell stuff with that job you got.
This kind of thing isn't unique or even especially new- I've had sales staff try to talk me out of every Nintendo console purchase since the N64 days. It's never happened with any other console strangely enough.
Of course they always try to push me towards something else that's already on sale or to make a pre-order. They aren't so mind-numbingly thick as to push me towards something that isn't out for 6 months.
I'm tempted to pay the TC a visit to buy a PS3. I don't really need a second one, but it would be interesting to see if he tells me about any shiny new consoles expected next year.

An unknowing woman going to a game store to buy TWO 3DS consoles and five games? Sounds like a mother, no doubt. Poor kids aren't going to get their gifts. I sort of agree with you pointing the facts out, but at the same time she was probably trying to buy the newest on the market at the given time. She likely changed her mind knowing the kids will want the "next new thing." However, the 3DS seems like such a safe bet as far as software and kid friendly games go. So yeah, not sure I agree with the explanation/approach.
You lost a sale, you're doing the opposite of your job, lol.
If it was me I'd let her know Sony's make a handheld that comes out later and that's about it. It's not my job to do the research/educate the buyer, its my job to sell.
[QUOTE="FoolwithaLancer"]No, his job is to make a sale, not convince a customer out of one. i believe he was working the cash register so his job wasnt to help a customer make their mind his job is to ring people up and take their money so he didn't do his job.You helped a customer make up her mind. That is your job. Nothing special.
Iantheone
Well I think asking the game store employe what he suggests is the worst thing to do when buying a new game or game system (unless you're totaly unknowable about).
So you told her it's not the newest (DS), because there is a newer one (handheld) coming out :P
Hmmm. You know, it was just miscommunication. So don't feel too bad about it.
