I think Gears 2 will get AA

OK Lets have a pleasent debate here.

My reasons:

When the first Gears came out, at the time, it was incredible.

It was the first TRUE next gen game. It had graphics of the likes that had never seen before and used gameplay techniques that were brilliant.

BUT

This time, I am sure it will have much MUCH stronger competition. When the first gears came out it had pretty much none. The only competition was Resistance, and Resistance came out with the PS3's release, and games that come out with a consoles release are basically slight upgrades from previous gen hardware, and cant push a systems potential.

Graphically, this time it wont have the edge it had before, it will be overshadowed by the likes of Killzone 2(admit it, killzone is unbeatable for the time being in this department.)

And unless they do something very cool in the gameplay department, it might not be quite the big deal it was back then.

And besides it doesnt have much going for it in other areas like story etc.

Those are my reasons.

We've hardly seen any media regarding KZ2, and NONE whatsoever for GeoW 2, and you're already making claims like this? Even going so far as to say KZ2 will look better? Where are you getting these assumptions from, because I want to know. Surely you have some top-secret screenshots or footage that no one else outside of the game developer circle has. Gears of War on PC came out a year later and was up against competition and still got AAA. What's going to be competition on consoles for the second? A sequel to a 6.9 game? Gears of War 2 will be AAA, quote me on it and save it if you want.

Since we are discussing potential AA games, Metal Gear Solid 4 will get be AA on GameSpot such as Metal Gear Solid and Metal Gear Solid 3 were.

So it is our fault you have a limited imagination? Hmmm

1. Rainbow Six Vegas released a week after Gears did.

2. What does competition have to do with anything? Crysis, Halo 3, TOB, Call of Duty 4, Bioshock. All released in close proximity and are all ACE games.

3. If GeOW did get AA, that would mean that they couldn't improve on a game that was arguably the most memorable this generation. Comparing it to the likes of Killzone is stupid as Killzone can do everything to improve upon itself, it was a critical and technical failure. GeOW AA != Killzone 2 AA if it manages to get it.

4. If history is any indication, Gears 2 should look noticeably better. To deny as much would be like denying how crappy Twisted Metal Black looked compared to Gran Turismo 4. Besides, they're doing new things with the engine so I think it will look better.

Your reasoning is only SLIGHTLY flawed regarding visual comparisons when we haven't even really seen anything of either...that flaw is about as slight as the thermal exhaust port of the Death Star. Of course you can't imagine any change in Gears 2. It's what you hope for, after all.

1)R6v is a poor game and got AAA... i think that proves my point more

2) Yes there all ACE games... but Gears didnt have that sort of competition at the time.

3) I personally think Kz2 will get AA... im just saying in the graphical department... kz will be the best.

During the conference, one of the guys from Epic was talking about how much better Gears of War would've looked if they released it today because of the upgrades for UE3. They showed a tech-demo of levels on the original Gears to show the difference, from the live-feed blogs on the conference, it sounds as if it is an upgrade and that we can be pretty sure that GeOW2 will be graphically better than the first.

I'm sure we all knew that though. Consoles may have outdated hardware but games always progress in graphics, only a fanboy thinks that a consoles graphics reaches it's peak in the beginning of its third year.

Link where Killzone is even remotely looked at in detail.

I could say "admit it, Gears of war currently has the greatest gameplay of all time based on the trailer that just came out"
