That it's going to be close.

The list of features that the NGP is bringing to the table far outshines the 3DS's 3D and past-gen ports.

Do you guys agree?

Just wait until Iphone/Ipad/Ipod erodes away the NGP business with cheaper prices and even more features. Apple releases a new line of products annually so the Ipod should be superior to NGP in another couple years.

If features was all that it came down to then why did the DS molest the PSP? You really can't call a winner based on the initial outlook. When the PSP launched it had WAY more quality games than the DS and was actually outselling the DS for a while there. Then the DS lite and Mario Kart DS launched and the rest is history.

Your point may have been valid if you didn't put Mercenaries in your post. Where can I play Mercenaries? Oh only on the Gamecube, PS2, Wii, 360 and PS3. It's basically a combination of RE4 and 5 Mercenaries.

But it is true the 3DS doesn't only have ports. Just like PSP2 isn't just a handheld PS3 doesn't just have PS3 franchises, unlike many fanboys would have you believe. Anyway, both handhelds will have great games. I'm looking more forward to PSP2 at this point though.

Why exactly would it be safe? :?

Because the NGP is more powerful? What has that to do with anything?

I should remind you that the PSP was more powerful than the DS, and that the PS3 and 360 are more powerful than the Wii, and none of those "wars" is close.

Not at this time. Price is really going to be a big determining factor here. If NGP comes out at say 350 or more, it is probably going to end in 3DS's favor by a wide margin. By contrast, if Sony pulled a really awesome move and came in at 250 or less, then yeah, 3DS could be looking at having a really hard fight on its hands.

I'm not a big handheld gamer, but I was dissappointed with the DS. Not to say it isn't great, it just wasnt my thing. So I don't really care about the 3DS. Plus the 3d aspect feels REALLY gimmicky to me.

I am curious about the NGP though...might try it out and pick one up.

You can play the game mode "mercs" also on the Xbox on Resi 4 Too, Sadly you cannot play Resident Evil: Mercs game on any other console but the 3DS!! Im sure there will be many more levels on the game but just parts of 4 and 5 Mercs. Resident Evi: Revelations is the #1 reason im buying the 3DS as i am/was a huge fan of the resident evil franchise till later games.

I hope both dont suffer with Ports syndrome as i want new games which show off the handhelds potential, I think both will have a good line up which will surpass those of 360, wii and PS3.

Im gonna buy a 3DS at launch and will see what happens with PSP2 in the future and whether its worth buying.

3D display is really how it should have been from the beginning with 3D graphics, only that the technology for it wasn't mature.

It's not a gimmick, no more than having two eyes instead of one is a gimmick. It's simply how it's meant to be.
For instance it makes you able to judge depth and thus you can estimate distance, something that is vital for certain things, jumping just the right distance or when to break before going into a corner in a racing game. Overall it will increase immersion.

I am curious about the NGP though...might try it out and pick one up.xLFTMx

If that were to happen, the systems may be close in sales to start with, but after a while people will start to realize that the NGP really isn't anything new or special at all, and that they've already played the same games but better looking at home on the PS3 and they'll turn to 3DS which offers something fresh and exciting, and has games that actually gives the players something else than their home console of choice.

Developers actually said that the best thing about NGP is that it's so easy to port to. That's great

Not really. Not really excited for any new NGP features outside a better online system and the 3DS line up looks quite superior at the moment.

Clearly i only speak for myself... but I would rather take the 3DS's past-gen ports (as in.. I would rather play updated versions of games i havent played in like 10 years) over portable versions of games like Resistance, Killzone and Uncharted that i have played within the last year or 2..... atleast the 3DS "ports" From past generations are UPGRADED from the last time I plaed them and not downgraded console like experiences on a hand held...

No. 3D on a handheld is a gimmick. Thats not completely a bad thing, but it is.

I'm not debating this anyway, I dont care either way, and don't wanna deal with your clear fanboyism.

Honestly, the same thing was said about the PSP/DS sales competition. And again, the keys to sales will be the price point of both units and mass appeal of the games on it.

I don't think Sony is truly attempting to compete with the 3DS, but is rather trying to establish its own market separate from the 3DS. The problem is whether or not that market is already covered by apple or not and how much they can deter piracy. The 3DS will undoubtedly be the handheld for the younger generation, which will be a bigger audience than what Sony is going for. The problem for Sony is that those who don't mind to pay will most likely go to apple and those who truly want something out of the handheld, will be the greatest enthusiasts of hacking it and probably wont pay for their games. This is of course, talking about America. Handheld games make sense for Japaense teenagers and young adults more than those in the US because they take the train everywhere. Americans drive and handhelds are most used by those who are in the midst of traveling.

Recently I have more faith in SONY first party studios than Nintendo, SONY first party is trying new things and innovating (Potapon, Loco roco, patch work heroes,...etc). On the other hand Nintendo mostly keep on doing what they do the best which is Platforming games (I'm not saying thats bad but I want to see them doing more things).

No. With 3DS's price below US$300,00, and the NGP's price estimated above US$400,00, it's not going to be close. I'm calling it now: the 3DS will continue to be the Wii of handhelds.

SONY is letting Japan studio develop most of their PSP games and thats the best Japanese studio from SCEI thats why we are not seeing any big releases from Japan studio on PS3 because they are busy with the handhelds since its what Japan favors.

No, the 3DS has name recognition and better games on its side. Neither one has a great launch lineup, but just like this gen the 3DS will end up with the better games. The 3DS' launch lineup is better than the DS had, and look how that turned out.

The 3DS should dominated the NGP.

No matter the specs the is no possible way that Sony can match Nintendo in the games. And thats all I care about

LaytonsCat
Also this. Sony just doesn't compete with Ninty when it comes to making games.

No, the 3DS has name recognition and better games on its side. Neither one has a great launch lineup, but just like this gen the 3DS will end up with the better games. The 3DS' launch lineup is better than the DS had, and look how that turned out.

The 3DS should dominated the NGP.

Kashiwaba

PS3 should have dominated Wii and 360 too if things are always like that.

There are exceptions, the 360 came a year earlier and the PS3 was $350 more expensive than the Wii and $300 more than the 360 when it launched. Obviously if the 3DS was $600 and the NGP was $300 or $250 and had a year's head start it'd be favored to win. However the 3DS is going to be cheaper and is coming out earlier, so it doesn't have either of those points going against it. Name recognition, affordability, quality, and timing. The 3DS has them all in its favor.

It's all about price and games.

The 3DS looks certain to be cheaper than the PSP2, and Nintendo has Mario and Pokemon.

Nintendo win by KO.

That it's going to be close.

The list of features that the NGP is bringing to the table far outshines the 3DS's 3D and past-gen ports.

Do you guys agree?

Easyle

You seem to be missing the fact that OoT and the Street Fighter IV are the only major ports being released at launch... besides, imagine the potential. I've noticed that launch games rarley look as godd as future games. If this holds true, the 3DS is going to be mind blowing.

Yeah because the N64, Gamecube and Wii all destroyed Sony's consoles with the games...oh wait.

Comparing 3DS to NGP is like a child's toy to an adult toy.

We're talking handhelds here and Nintendo crushed Sony in games last gen. Nintendo's always had the best first party support, but the N64 and Gamecube lost due to weak 3rd party support stemming from Nintendo's refusal to move on to DVDs for the N64. Sony screwed the pooch with the overpriced PS3 (initially) and ruined their dominance, and Nintendo took over by appealing to the masses. They won because of games, not because the games were all good but because they appealed to everyone with truly great games for gamers and fun party games for everyone else. The 3DS will have better 3rd party support, name recognition, price advantage, and will be released first. That's why it'll win.

If you're an insecure 35 year old who's still playing with dolls in his room and has to cover it up by trying to appear manly? Then yeah. If you like to enjoy great games the 3DS is better and both are for whoever enjoys them.
