That's right. I'm serious.

So, you're probably wondering why.

Well, the main reasons for this is the art s t y l e is so awesome, and the entire world is better made.

You see, the main problem I had with OOT was that it felt like I was in a very small area, and the sidequests...were underwhelming. And Wind Waker's sidequests are at times better than the main quest. And overall, the world felt more alive. And I loved sailing.

There's only two main problems with WW: The main quest is too easy and too short. And that's it. The story is better written than OOT methinks, and the characters were great in general.

So prepare the flame shields now. I'm ready.

I liked Wind Waker

But saying it is better then OoT is blasphemy.

No.

All the 3D Zeldas after OoT surpassed it. The reason people still place OoT on this pedestal is because of one thing...

Nostalgia

The game does NOT hold up well today.

I agree, but honesly I think Majoras Mask was the best. An absolutely phenomenal sequel and it was the darkest themed Zelda :)

There's no arguement to have. OoT holds up just fine. It's just as fun today as it was ten years ago, and I don't see any reason it wouldn't be. Say what you want about the other 3D Zeldas, but OoT is a timeless adventure. Anyway, on topic now. Wind Waker is a fantastic game. It doesn't quite beat OoT in my book, but damn did it come close and it's a great game nonetheless.

The same could be said about any games people still love, its obvious that there have been improvements, but at the time of its release, OOT was by far the best game.

And the game does hold up extremely well, because the gameplay in the Zelda games has been almost identical after 2 gens. I played the game recently and it felt great, it didnt feel like the controls or gameplay mechanics or anything was holding me back.

this^ same kinda goes for FF7. im mean seriously it had a great story, but the FF titles after it improved the gameplay. the first entry you play in a series will most likely be your favorite in the whole series.

I completely agree. That part kind of sucked. I still didn't feel it dragged the game down too far, though.

Ahh at the time of its release. The same logic can be applied to Pong or something...

OoT had a hilariously bad story, characters, and the early dungeons were very drab and boring. The second half of the game saved it though, the Water Temple is stll the BEST dungeon in a Zelda game, period.

I give it props for the OST also. OoT has the godliest music in a Zelda game ever.

That's fine, Wind Waker is an incredible game, maybe not as incredible as Ocarina of Time was when you played it for the first time, but anyone who has played Wind Waker should be able to see where you're coming from.

From a design standpoint, it's still excellent. But if you go into the game with all the OTT hype in the back of your mind, you will probably be disappointed.

Before reading all the responses, I'm going to say that I agree with you. OoT is an amazing game, but I think WW is THAT much better.

I loved exploring the ocean with the King of Red Lions, and finding hidden islands and treasures, taking over pirate ships, and finding pirate coves and submarines. Plus, the giant squid battles were awesome, and I loved how the waves got huge when a big thunderstorm rolled in. I LOVE the sense of exploration in WW. How you feel that there is always something new around every corner, that compels you to keep playing even though it is three in the morning and you have work at 7.

Imo, Wind Waker is the greatest Zelda game, as well as gamecube game, ever.

if i had played it in 98, i owuld have thought "wow this is epic" But playing it in the last year, i honestly just thought it was an average game. dont get me wrong, its not horrible or anything, but i wasnt wowed in any way. for starters, the targeting system is balls, im sorry but i for the life of me targeting a specific enemy when there are multiple on the screen is a pain. also, i couldnt help but think that while the game was attempting to be epic in scale, there was like nothing in the game, it was pretty empty with not a whole lot to do and generally when a game tries to be big today it tries to fill it with things to do but obviously OoT is pretty old but still when i was playing it i wasnt really impressed by anything in particular. Granted, i was doing a speed run and didnt play that far into it because i got bored and was mostly messing around meh whateve,r

That's exactly what you have to do, go in with an open mind. Remember, it's an N64 game that came out ten years ago. Ignoring the presentation (which is actually still pretty good), the gameplay and control is still top notch. As I stated in an earlier post, I didn't play the game myself until 2004. I found it breathtaking when I first played it and I still do.

I agree. OOT...just doesn't hold up well, especially graphics. When you consider Soul Calibur, a game released in the same year, beat it graphically by a mile, you know it won't age well.

The size of the game, the sidequests, the way you got into the dungeons was extremly repeative, and the story isn't that great...yeah, graphics is all that counts. I guess that's why the Wii sells well?

Well, I've been a longtime Nintendo fan and I grew up with the N64, so I guess I was able to appreciate it more.

I hadnt played OoT until this year and when people say its the best game ever they are talking entirely from a nostalgic point of view, it really isnt anything special if you pay it for the first time today.JPOBS
I disagree. I didn't play the game for the first time until 2004. I immediately saw what made it so great. Ignoring graphics obviously, the game is still a masterpiece by today's standards.

if i had played it in 98, i owuld have thought "wow this is epic" But playing it in the last year, i honestly just thought it was an average game. dont get me wrong, its not horrible or anything, but i wasnt wowed in any way. for starters, the targeting system is balls, im sorry but i for the life of me targeting a specific enemy when there are multiple on the screen is a pain. also, i couldnt help but think that while the game was attempting to be epic in scale, there was like nothing in the game, it was pretty empty with not a whole lot to do and generally when a game tries to be big today it tries to fill it with things to do but obviously OoT is pretty old but still when i was playing it i wasnt really impressed by anything in particular. Granted, i was doing a speed run and didnt play that far into it because i got bored and was mostly messing around meh whateve,r

The game wasn't trying to be big on todays standards, it was trying to score big on the N64 standards, and guess what? It succeded, big time. If you fail to see what's great about it then maybe you should give a better look at the game, a lot of what goes into this games goes into many great games that are in production today.

That's exactly what you have to do, go in with an open mind. Remember, it's an N64 game that came out ten years ago. Ignoring the presentation (which is actually still pretty good), the gameplay and control is still top notch. As I stated in an earlier post, I didn't play the game myself until 2004. I found it breathtaking when I first played it and I still do.Superzone

This.

I really doubt people on this forum will say Crysis is garbage when your kids come asking you about it in the future.

Thank you. That's exactly why I loved WW.

That's right. I'm serious.

So, you're probably wondering why.

Well, the main reasons for this is the art s t y l e is so awesome, and the entire world is better made.

You see, the main problem I had with OOT was that it felt likeI was in a very small area, and the sidequests...were underwhelming.

But it is better than Orcarina of Time. It's better than Link to the Past too.

No.

All the 3D Zeldas after OoT surpassed it. The reason people still place OoT on this pedestal is because of one thing...

Nostalgia

The game does NOT hold up well today.

I agree. OOT...just doesn't hold up well, especially graphics. When you consider Soul Calibur, a game released in the same year, beat it graphically by a mile, you know it won't age well.

Soul Calibur was released on the Dreamcast, a system one generation ahead of the N64. So you lose that point. And REAL gamers don't care about graphics.

WW does a few things better than OoT, and OoT does things better than WW. I'd say theyre equal, even though i prefer OoT

I love a link to the past. It had some really enjoyable dungeon design. (except the dark world forest dungeon, screw that crap)

Ok, that's when I draw the line. LTTP was the best Zelda game out there.

I still think Link In The Past was better than Oracle of Time. Also, I loved Wind Waker.

Well, Wind Waker is my out right favorite in the series.

I only included LTTP to take a shot at the "blasphemy" line. :P
