so do i. im in the slightly odd position though of having played WW before OOT..so all that revolutionary stuff that OOT came out with...the so called big event of seeing hyrule fields in 3d for the first time.....it didnt affect me at all. by the time i had played bigger and prettier looking games. OOT feels a bit unresponsive and a bit rough compared to WW. OOT is still a dam fine game though and i can appreciate how many think it was so revolutionary. at the time it certainly shook things up ....its just that it didnt have that big an effect on me since i had already experienced all its revolutions while playing PC games.

The game does NOT hold up well today.-PuLse
Funny, I played it recently and had as much fun with it as I had back then. I loved WW, but the sailing was very tedious. And happened to be the main part of the game. OoT was better imo, and that's not nostalgia talking. Well, maybe a little. The dungeons were better, better characters, better bosses.

Yeah. I don't see why the sailing gets a free ride in Zelda game discussions, it was incredibly repetitive at some points, that reason alone would make it worse then OOT, since OOT had no glaring problems.

I agree, but honesly I think Majoras Mask was the best. An absolutely phenomenal sequel and it was the darkest themed Zelda :)

Totally agree. Majora's Mask IS the best 3d Zelda game of all time. The side quests were just amazing.

Indeed, it had some minor backtracking at parts but overall the it had a nice forward pace.

I agree 100%. Heck, even Majora's Mask blows OoT out of the water. The series has evolved since OoT.

That's why people felt ripped off when they broke the open world format of MM and WW in Twilight Princess. Open world works very well for a zelda game.

Other than Link to the Past, I entirely missed the 3D Zelda series somehow until last year. I played them all, and I actually enjoyed OoT the most even if it looked really outdated. There was just something I liked about it, that I can't really pinpoint. I liked Twilight Princess the next out of the 3D ones, but it was WAY too easy. My fav Zelda is Link to the Past :D

I'll respect your opinion, but I disagree whole heartedly, no Zelda game will top Ocarina of Time for me. My biggest issues with Wind Waker would be it's difficult as like you said.....but I love WW anyways, but I just like OoT a lot more.

Wind Waker is also my favourite Zelda game as well. I just hate people that complain about its art style it works well for the game and makes it stand out and I felt the combat system was much better than Ocarina of Time.

Answer: still great.

JPOBS

No it isnt. honestly, no one is better equipped to judge how OoT is today except someone who is playing it for the first time ever. Everyone's opinion is automatically void if they played it first in 98/99/2000. I dotn care if they say "buh buh i went back and played it last month and its still amazing" they are blinded by nostalgia. OoT is a 6 or 7 by todays standards.

... and just like that, I don't take you seriously. Who HONESTLY cares if someone played OOT in '98 or '99. Does that make their OPINION inferior to yours? If so, you should probably grow up.

PS. I first played OOT in 2007, and I thought that it was an amazing game. So that "Blinded by Nostalgia"argument of yours is Null & Void. What do you think about THAT?

I enjoyed Wind Waker, but the main plot felt a little short for my taste. I enjoyed the sytlistic approach they took, but compared to other Zelda games, it was much too short.

Plus there's that whole "Transition to 3d" you felt when you played OOT. If you played Metroid Prime, its that same sorta feeling. once you've played it the 2nd & 3rd time in 3d "sorry Echos & Corruption", its not as exciting.

Ugh, I totally disagree. Art-style. was childish and annoying, yea ok, finding Wind Waker "Childish" but no "World of Warcraft" is some sort of double standard, but lets face it, despite colours and exagurated features WoWs world still pulls off dark/evil/gritty, while looking at WindWaker with its cel shaded garbage not only made me bored of the world within 10 minutes but Link just creeps me out.. why would I go from the amazing child and adult links of OOT to this scary looking garbage? Then theres the "illusion" of open world, the hours wasted saling around with boring graphics collecting peices on the map, instead of proper exploration in knoocks and crannys or puzzles like OOT was, you just go to an island and get a freeby half the time, pathetic and boring. The Bosses and Dunegones were also inferior, as were the towns. And then there were the sounds, my god, the silly little dings and stuff when you countered or hit correctly. *Shudders* "Toddler clapping extreme" OOT was a masterpeice, child friendly yet serious... Wind Waker looked like it was designed by a well known criminal that lures little kids into vans with teletubby dolls.

Meh, I'd say it plays more like a 3D Zelda game, despite having a top-down view. It certainly seems different than the 2D Zelda games, that is for sure.

Really? I thought the opposite. It's way too different from the 3D Zelda games. It's a lot more like SNES Zelda.

Bad bosses and Dungeons made it great? Lack of content masked with repetitive sailing made it great? I mean yes ok, art-style/sounds is preference, but the majorityof Zeldas not being like it kinda prooves that it was nowhere near perfect. How can you even compare the final section of WW to OOT? OOT was no contest, at its time it was one of the most epic designs ever... WW was... "oh fight normal mode ganon at a waterfall, press on button to counter his move and win." ... WW felt completely unfinished.

I got into this thread late and am not about to read the whole thing. I'm sure the topic has been hijacked by fanboys and some PC guy has posted pics of Crysis, An X box guy just paid fifty dollars to use the bathroom ( something he should get to do for free) Some PS3 kid mentioned Uncharted, and A wii guy hyped Conduit. I just wanted to say I liked Wind Waker better too. In Fact I still have never finished OOT

Well, it does hold up. I got it on the VC, and I had never played it before. Quite simply an amzing game, I'd actually play that over a lot of modern games that recieve lots of praise. Also, I finished Twilight Princess faster than I did Wind Waker. I didn't think it was short at all. In fact, I'm not even finished yet (I only got it sometime ago, maybe a few months). I'm still hunting down the Triforce shards, which I CANNOT find. I think I may have to use a game guide, I suck at adventure games...

Bad bosses and dungeons?! What is this blasphemy, this MADNESS?! They were the most challenging and unique dungeons of all the Zelda titles. The bosses were grand and huge, if somewhat easy, but all Zelda bosses are.

I dont see how what he said its true, and I dont see why a game has to "hold up today"? being what? 5 years older than wind waker? on release, nostalgia or not, Zelda OOT was amazing, its ending was great, its world, its themes.. If we want to play itfrom his perspective, then wind waker failed to "hold up" the release day that I bought it and completed it (week). WW being more "playable" does not make it better.

Agreed. As a game id say Wind Waker is better than OoT, and its one of my top games of all time (as is OoT).

The misconception that Wind Waker is childish because of the art direction is also ridiculous, to the point where I have seen people list the game as their least favorite Zelda just because of the direction.

Also, the "every Zelda is better than the one before it" is absolutely false, imo. That would make TP the best Zelda game of all time and that's just wrong... of course thats imo.

Same story here with OOT. Such a great game (coming from a person who first played it in 2007). "Nostalgia"? What weak argument is this guy going to have now that people actuelly LOVE the game (people who haven't played it in '98, '99', 00, etc).

you do know theres a five year gap between the two right? And small places, CMON! Hyrule field was huge and still is today... I respect your opinion because they are both good games but imo OOT > WW by a mile

That's right. I'm serious.

So, you're probably wondering why.

Well, the main reasons for this is the art s t y l e is so awesome, and the entire world is better made.

You see, the main problem I had with OOT was that it felt likeI was in a very small area, and the sidequests...were underwhelming. And Wind Waker's sidequests are at times better than the main quest. And overall, the world felt more alive. And I loved sailing.

There's only two main problems with WW: The main quest is too easy and too short. And that's it. The story is better written than OOT methinks, and the characters were great in general.

So prepare the flame shields now. I'm ready.

I liked Wind Waker

But saying it is better then OoT is blasphemy.

EXACTLY saying something is BETTER than OoT is INSANE

I actually felt that Wind Waker was the smallest Zelda game. It was expanded by the mass of ocean but there was really nothing there. Quite boring for the most part. And the Triforce fetch quest was just ridiculous.

What annoyed me most about Wind Waker and Twilight Princess did that pushes them below Ocarina of Time is that they showed so much content, which was then cut from the final game, resulting in massive disappointment. Ocarina didnt have that effect, for some reason. Its part of why I want Nintendo to keep all details secret until they have the game pretty much done, then start releasing trailers. Then I wont be wondering where features / dungeons disappeared to.

Twilight Princess and Wind Waker are still fantastic games, but they will always personally be inferior to Ocarina for that reason. Only just, though.

Link To The Past > Ocarina of Time > Majoras Mask = Links Awakening >Wind Waker > Twilight Princess > The Legend of Zelda >>>>>>>> Phantom Hourglass.

Although, to be honest, this all changes depending on my mood. Except for Phantom Hourglass. I really dont like that game. Its the only Zelda where I just really dont care enough to finish it.
