I use video games to hide from my personal problems.

You mention you like WoW a lot; ever thought of going to Blizzcon (if its not impossibly far away)? You would be among peers and maybe even find people who live near you, that you can visit, set up LAN parties and stuff. I met a group online that I would go visit every once in a while on the weekend and we did things like LAN parties, bowling and whatnot. It wasn't really games that brought us together initially but it wasn't really surprising that pretty much everyone was a gamer. I kinda miss those days.

I know you have a job or w/e, but try to be social during the day and game by night. I go to the mall, park, or movies by day with friends, and rock out to Guitar Hero in the night.:P

As to where to start though....I think you should do something for the community, or look around your town for different groups or something that interest you.:) And run! I love running! I'm in no way the best shape at all but running clears your head of negativity.

That's what I do. Maybe you should try it? Course I'm a teen on summer vacation, so then again I don't know your schedule completely.:?

Could be, but if that were true, it would be really, really sad. All it proves is that for all the bickering we do here on SW, some people will actually step up and show some compassion. I don't think thats a bad thing, and anyone messing with people that are just trying to help are terrible, especially since the issue in the TC's post is actually a real issue for a growing number of people in the modern era.

Don't listen to him, it's people like that in the world that want to put you down. Just let it roll off your shoulder and look up. Really, try going to your mall or going the gym. Especially the gym, it'll make you feel better. Try replacing some gaming time with exercise, not only will you be physically healthier, you'll have chances to talk to people there too. ;)

I have not been around people much lately. Mostly, girls reject me, and guys don't want to be friends with me. So, I turn to video games to fill that void. Lately, I have been playing a ton of WoW and Rainbow 6 Vegas, and these games give me a sense of community, something that I feel a part of. I have friends on these games that are better than any real life friend that I might have, not that I have any real life friends. When i come home from work everyday, I don't exercise, I don't call anyone, I game. I game and post on system wars. I game until I am too tired to game anymore, everynight. This is my life, and i have been doing this for the past 10 years, and I don't see things changing anytime soon. Gaming is my escape from the rigors of everyday life.accameron

dude i swear your writing my life story... i use to play ffxi everyday(i stoppeed now though)after i get off work for two years straight for 4-5 hours a day when i was working and on my days off i would play for 16+ hours a day... it was my way of dealing with having no real life friends... although i haven't been doing it as long as you i am still in the same situation today and feel i am headed down the same path which i hope doesn't happen...

There are steps you can take if you want to change. You dont have to go straight from A to B. If you are fat because of video games and not caring about your appearancein the real world then address that first (not that you have to avoid social contact in this time!). After that, if you're socially awkward you can get into something with actual people. That ranges to a lot of things and you dont have to just go to bars (which I dont like at all btw). You could always go to a group for social disfunctionals or maybe talk to a therapist if things have gotten past a point of no return. If things are not that bad there are always things to do like playing a sport (after you're okay with your appearance if that's a barrier)

You should ween yourself of gaming, that much is true. It's like drinking I suppose. You dont have to stop entirely but you shouldn't focus your life around it either.

Plus, I wouldn't say that friends you know in the game dont count for anything. They count for something and you dont have to give them up in some kind of obscene symbolic gesture. Also, did you turn to video games because of your problems, or do video games create a lot of your problems? If nothing else, you should figure that out so you at least understand your own situation.

I'm not expert, this just seems obvious to me. I'm not mr. popular either, but I do have relationships in the real world

Hey man, you have a lot more to offer than your videogames skills. May I suggest finding a good bible based church? I was kind of like you (except replace videogames with drugs). God saved me, turned my life 180 degrees. and realised I had much more to offer than weed, and i can have lots of friendships that don't revolve around drugs. Going to church has kept me intact, given me a sense of urgency, to accomplish what I believe in. Now my attitude towards life has changed, I'm much more pro-active, I'm accomplishing things, and yes, I get more girls (though that can cause temptations). Obviously it's necessary to work, but don't work soley to satisfy your addiction. Don't you want a relationship with the God that woke you up this morning? He called you by name, to witness to people, to inspire people, to help people. Pretty soon you'll be telling people what God did for your life! Right now videogames are your God! Videogames aren't a bad thing, but they are when your life revolves around them! I'll be praying for you, and pm me with questions.
