If 2080ti's drop to $300, consoles will be in even more trouble

If 2080ti's, which are more powerful than XsX or PS5, drop to $300 when the 3000 series hits stores, then you will be able to build a similar or more powerful PC at damn near the same price as the consoles especially on a sale. It's pretty much guaranteed that a $250-300 GPU will outperform the new consoles soon. GPU: $300 or less, CPU: $150 or so, Ram: $50, Mobo: $70 or less, PSU: $60, SSD: $50, Case: $50 or less, Keyboard and mouse: $50 or less. Hard drive is optional but $50. Can get a super cheap controller like the 360 if you want. Get cheap windows key. Total: roughly $800 compared to a potentially $599 console with free online that saves 60 dollars every year. It's time to drop the whole $2000 for a PC bullcrap, it has been proven to be incorrect. We haven't even heard the 3060's price or the new AMD cards which could be even better of price/performance. Imagine how much better or cheaper PC hardware will be over console within a year. It already is before launch.

Get access to millions of more games, more genres, cheaper games, 60fps (no more horrible 1996 30fps), the largest amount of players, early access titles, xbox and playstation games, thousands of possible mods to improve games, emulators to play thousands of classic games, free and best online, backwards compatibility to the 1980s, upgrade when you want, mouse is better for aim, use any controller you want, best VR experience if you want, better graphics and performance for older games or new, better multitasking, more freedom and so much more. It is objectively superior even if someone subjectively prefers console. Like it's not enough close to be honest and this is coming from someone who gamed on console for 20 years. The benefits are so great that I don't think I could ever be only console ever again.

It's a new gen so it's time to ask yourself: do you want to continue to live life as a lowly peasant or do you want to be a god? My brother learned to put together a PC within a day with a youtube video. If you have manged to survive long enough to be an adult, you can build or use a PC or get a friend to help put it together. It's not rocket science, it's more like child putting legos together. I believe you are smart enough and it is really worth it. 2020 and still 30fps? Yikes, nothing next gen about that. For people thinking about doing the switch, do yourself a favor and don't settle for less. You deserve the best

@Fairmonkey: I think you forgot a fast SSD drive. And also a Windows license. Does a cooling fan and paste for CPU come with any of that stuff? What about an 4k optical drive? If one isn't needed then compare it to a $399(rumor) PS5.

@joshrmeyer: forgot the SSD and windows, fixed for ya. You can get windows cheap. CPU has fan included, thermal paste is like 5 bucks if needed. 4k drive is useless but buy a cheap one seperately at walmart if u really need it, totally optional. PC usually streams or downloads instead. Even $399 PS5 at that price will be very outdated shortly with significantly less benefits than PC but you can settle for that if you wish

@Fairmonkey:

You don't know how the PC market work do you?

Man the 3070 will barely be faster than the 2080TI and will be $500 how do you think the 2080ti will drop close to $1,000 in price depending on the model to $300.

You have to understand something: not everybody wants to game on PC. Even if the cost fell to ridiculously low, console fans would continue to game on consoles. People have their opinions, dude, and some simply don't like gaming on PC.

@tormentos: if it isn't the 2080ti, a GPU will be $300 that can compete with XsX very soon. We all know it's going to happen soon whether it is the 2080 or not

Why consoles are fucked? Seems you got zero idea about console gaming and never owned a console in your whole gaming life. You silly hermits give hermits a bad rep.

What makes you think consoles were ever fucked? PC always had best hardware , games library , backwards compatibility and always have, always will over consoles. PC has no competition, end of discussion.

Those who prefer to play games on drawing roomwith freinds and family, those who only intend to plug and play , those who find console gaming is cheaper, preferconsole exclusives will always buy consoles. Console gamers are going to buy consoles no matter what. No GTX 3090 can change console gamers from buying a console for above said reasons.

@magnum3000: console gamers will continue to buy consoles but they simply can't compete with rapidly improving PC hardware. We won't ever get a 2013 GTA5 on a 2005 xbox 360 ever again, consoles would have to make new versions every 2 years or so now to keep up

Bahaaaaaha, the very large majority of console purchases are made by people who do not cross shop PC.

They exist as an alternate form factor and you could drop the fanciest GPU to $9.99 and it wouldn't move the needle down much on console sales.

It's like saying: if McDonalds dropped their burger prices that salad sales at Chopt would crater.

Let me tell you from my own experience as i own and play best of both worlds. Console never could compete with PC in terms of technology. The consoles hardware becomes outdated before or on release or soon, sometimes MS and PS release enhanced versions of the consoles to keep up like PRO or X1X for better graphics on big T.V's ( 4K) . Thats about it .

Yet the plebs still run around and claim how they don't like gaming on PC.

It wont drop and it doesn't need to a RTX 3060 will come out at $299-349 with the power of a RTX 2080-2080 Super.

With consoles rumoured to be $499... That's $150 more than last generation, its going to shit on consoles anyone with a 3600 CPU and a RTX 3060 will be beating console performance with a bigger library of games and better features such as DLSS with all the freedom of PC for a PC that will cost $799, that's $200 more than those consoles.

PC sales have been increasing every year, thanks to the battle royal and twitch movement and now combine that with a console launch that is rumoured to be $499... Yeah there is some weight to that, look at PS3 total sales when that was sold for more than $299-349.

The climate is different now, when the PS4 launched it was $349 and PC gaming wasn't as popular as it is now.

We might be looking at another PS3 and 360 generation when it comes to sales.

@WESTBLADE85: @Fairmonkey: Speaking for this pleb, consoles are like "budget" pcs in every way except in real life.

Consoles are made for playing games. Every console has exactly what it needs to play the game its supposed to run at optimal settings.

Pcs have millions of combinations of GPUs, cpus etc from wildly varying dates from a multitude of companies....and games often hang up on the simplest thing....I just couldn't be bothered to go trawling through forums anymore trying to figure out why a game flat out refuses to run.

Of course, you're going to say that you never have those problems on your pcs, so again...I'm speaking from my personal experience as a pleb.

How many stores are there on pc nowadays? Genuine question. Last I checked, there's still issues playing with a friend if you bought some games from different stores.....just don't have the patience for that.

There's aesthetics....I mean sure, you can find a nice mini gaming pc that isn't a huge rectangular box, but at what price? Otherwise it's almost a given that 800 bucks will buy you a bigger, louder and uglier box.

Cheaters. Yup, I'm going there. Every single hermit I speak to claims they don't encounter hackers/cheaters etc, yet there are millions of pc gamers getting banned for cheating and the top streamers encounter them on a regular basis....im forced to crossplay with pc on warzone, and I've got around a dozen clips of aimbots or wallhacks taken over the last couple of months.

Yes, you can buy lag switches for consoles, but they don't last long and its much easier to get cheats reported on console.

Price? Hey, if a 2080ti ever drops to $300 I'll be amazed....but it's not going to happen. Heck, there's adverts for 2080ti's right underneath this discussion ranging from $1099 - 1750. An 800 - 1450 buck drop? Nope.

Even then, for the reasons above and many more...I left pc gaming when it had games and graphics that were the envy of console players and even a 200 buck 2080ti wouldn't tempt me back.

@sealionact: Well, you could just do a TL;DR at the bottom stating that you're just defending your lack of knowledge.

You could build a $1000 PC (with an RTX 3070) that slays both consoles all across the board, yet you have to talk some shit about running into issues due to having outdated hardware or not be bothered to just look at https://www.pcgamingwiki.com , inflating the issue with cheaters and talk about aesthetics, while PS5 looks like a melted router and XsX can be easily mistaken for a trash can...

Basically, you're just looking for excuses.

“CPU: $150 or so, Ram: $50, Mobo: $70 or less, PSU: $60, SSD: $50, Case: $50 or less”

Folks, don’t do this. Getting parts this cheap means you’re gonna miss out on many features.

- The cheapest 8 core Zen 2 CPU is $269 right now (on a sale)

- You aren’t getting pcie gen4 on a $70 motherboard. You’ll even have a tough time finding a mobo that supports a Zen 2 CPU at that price. Not new anyway

- A $50 ssd is gonna be small and slow

- A $60 power supply isn’t good for anyone

- 16GB of RAM is closer to $70-$80 right now

Yea Yea, remember how consoles were supposed to die? Remember Steam Machines? Remember Stadia? Console sales are healthy. PS4 and Switch are on fire. Only system that isn't on fire is Xbox, and that has to do with the product not PC.

Nope.

All I remember is console gamers preaching bull about how PC is dying almost every day for a decade... Fast forward to today PS4 games are on PC.

Shtap!

PC gamers preached that Steam machines were cr** and no one wanted Stadia.

Console gamers are just delusional, hyping and debating the "drastic" difference between 10 and 12 TFLOP GPU's but now 20 TFLOPS and 30 TFLOPS are announced all of the sudden nah power is not a big deal its all about the exclusives and I don't like PC just because.

You guys are broke basement dwelling man children who can't just admit you can't even afford a $599 console... Its why the PS3 sold like S*** for the first 3 years till the PS3 Slim released.

PC has been on the rise for 10 years even during the mining craze was selling games in the millions, its why developers are flocking to PC.

True.

I'll be upgrading to at a 3080 or possibly a 3070, but I'll likely only use it for minecraft RTX in VR and video editing. I'll get a XBSX at launch and a PS5 once NaughtyDog releases a couple of games.

Such a stupid thread. Some people just want to buy a game, turn on their console, put the game in and play. End. These people don't want to go shopping for PC parts and building a PC or trying to figure out which prebuilt is the best value for money.

Also, please stop telling people to buy cheap PC parts. As mentioned above it's a fucking terrible idea. Obviously this is a great time to get a PC with the new cards announced and if anyone is on the fence about it I say go ahead and do it you won't regret it but be prepared to spend more money than you would on a next gen console. 600 and maybe even 800 isn't going to cut it (though that might change when the cheaper Nvidia cards and new AMD cards are announced) .

Whatever you do, feel free to ignore the build 'advice' from the clown who started this thread. Do the opposite to everything he tells you and you'll be headed in the right direction.

They won't. That's never how gpu prices work. You'll pay more now for a 970 than you'd ever think you should for such an old gpu. No idea why.

You might have decent luck in the used market, though - not for 300 though, mate

Yeah i have been reading that since the 90's.

I didn't mean sales or user rate wise. I meant graphics/hardware/performance, the area Cows and Lemmings have been fighting against each other in dozens of threads each day for XSX vs. PS5. Your little toy is already significantly out dated BEFORE release. It's astounding how bad it is going to be for you guys this gen at Digital Foundry. Or forget DF, just a guy getting to play games at double the fps or way better settings (or both) who laughs at you all.

And hell the TI and SUPER variants are gonna come out next year lol, RIP.

Amazing how PC people think like this every year.

Woah, now you're just making crap up. If you don't remember the whole "consoles are dying" thing than you've been living on another planet all these years. Funny how PC gamers are now touting PS4 games, but before they were shitting on them. Real console gamers don't care about TFLOPs. They care about games. The Switch has X360 graphics and is on fire. People love Nintendo games. Do you think those people care how many TFLOPs it has? That's fanboy stuff right there.

"You guys" lol. I have a gaming PC (GTX980 TI since Feb 2016). Calling console gamers broke man children is pretty silly. Yet caring about 30 TFLOPS isn't? What games fully utilize that type of power? The most popular games on PC aren't graphically intensive at all. Some of the prettiest games I've played were on console. God of War, Last of Us 2, Ghost of Tsushima.. all stunning games. Didn't need to invest in a fancy GPU for that.

PS3 had a bad launch. Nothing to do with affordability. It was just not worth getting at the time. Also, why knock people for not wanting to buy something? It's their money. People have priorities.

I'm sure PC games have been on the rise. You know what has also been on the rise? Mobile gaming. I'm willing to bet Mobile gaming has grown a lot more than PC has the last 10 years.

@Fairmonkey: I think you forgot a fast SSD drive. And also a Windows license. Does a cooling fan and paste for CPU come with any of that stuff? What about an 4k optical drive? If one isn't needed then compare it to a $399(rumor) PS5.

Also his RAM price is ridiculous you aren't getting a decent amount of Ram for $50 or a case for $50. Even with his cheap prices he's still at $800 and it's more likely $1200. The last time I built a PC, during 360 and PS3 Gen, I built a PC more powerful than the consoles and I was cheap and it still was over $1000

What are you talking about?... Console gamers don't care?... Have you been on these forums?... Have you seen video's of people in line for console launches for the past 5 generations talking about the power of the console? THEY CARE!

Everyone who plays on a Switch loves the games but HATES the performance, I game on consoles as well I had a PS4 Pro for RDR2 when it launched and own a Switch.

Games are not a problem we are talking about power here and all of them care... I remember the Nintendo Revolution hype. Lol they all care.

Delusional people man.

The only difference between PC gamers and console gamers is the level of ignorance when it comes to the hardware, Nintendo gamer's love Nintendo and blame developers for bad performing games?... Clearly they aren't aware they are gaming on a tablet, ignorant.

Same as consoles gamer's complaing about performance while running on a CPU's this generation that are slower than the latest iphone's.

Ignorance doesn't mean they don't care, they complain then they care and they hype and compare consoles = THEY care!

@Gatygun: the 3070 appears to be about 2080TI-ish; the 3060 will probably be about 2070Super-ish if I had to guess.

I also doubt the 3060 will be 300. The 3070 missed the 400 mark by a full $100 (and in reality will probably retail with board partners for 530+ -> I think we're looking at a $400 3060
