on the 360: No PDZ, No Gears 1 or 2, No Halo 3 or ODST, Left 4 dead 1 and 2, no mass effect 1 or 2

on the PS3: No Resistance 1 and 2, no Killzone 2, no M.A.G., no HAZE, no Uncharted 1 or 2, no MGS 4

seems like the 360 would still win in AAAE games when compared to the PS3 (honestly, i'm surprised)

So Uncharted wouldn't count as well since it has more shooting than platforming/puzzles? And multiplayer modes that's all about shooting?

PS3 would still be tied with the Xbox 360, the DS would have a slight lead over the PSP, and the PC would be the best system.

No.

Defining which genre a game is in is based around it's main (and I repeat, MAIN) elements which are found in it.

Mass Effect is very much a shooter with light RPG elements to it. Fallout 3 is in the same boat. They're both primarily shooters.

I would count Uncharted as a shooter as well. I rented it hoping for a Tomb Raider shorta game. :( And on top of that, the shooting sucks! :x

No, things like ME do NOT count as shooters, TC. Speaking of which, I'd have Mass Effect 2, God of War 3, and SMG2 anyway, the only thing I'd be pissed about missing is Halo Reach. But alas, shooters won't just get sucked into a black hole and out of exsitance forever, so no need to worry or think about such frivelous things.

You hardly ever jump in Call of Duty, and jumping doesn't define platmorming so I don't know what you're talking about. The RPG elements in both games are very strong, they've passed the threshold to be considered as RPGs.

Wrong. In combat, you don't have to use any of your guns, since several classes feature biotic powers, sort of like the force, which you can use to damage and sabotage your enemies, NOT shooting. Plus, combat isn't the main portion of the game, you spend most of the time doing RPG things, like making choices, devoloping your character, taking on quests, researching the galaxy and it's inhabitants, and exploring.

Uhh, no. If the main focus of Mass Effect was it's combat, there wouldn't be any reason for it's ****load of dialog, engaging and interesting characters, lore, story, roleplaying, or even it's level system for that matter. The combat is merely the medium that is used while getting from point A to point B.... The shooting could be easily replaced with a turn based combat system and it wouldn't have made much of a difference. Also, in retrospect, the combat system is ****ing garbage. (IMO, anyway. Some find it to be adequate) So how in the hell would shooting be it's main focus?

The game isn't MGS4, do you think the majority of your time is spent fighting and walking around or speaking to others? In all RPGs combat is the main focus, I have not seen one RPG that just adds on combat for the hell of it.

Anyways how do you think you develop your character, complete quests, finding new galaxies? Fighting.

This is ridiculous. No, in shooters, grenades do NOT erase the precense of guns. However, in Mass Effect, if you choose to, you CAN erase shooting altogether with the biotic powers, you aren't at all required to go all out shooting, or even use it once. Also, you say "fighting" is the way you devolop your character, complete quests, and find new galaxies, which I find two things wrong with: 1: All the RPGs I've ever played make fighting mandatory, just like Mass Effect. So with this logic, all RPGs... aren't RPGs? They all make you fight after all. I suppose Final Fantasy is a turn-based fighter now? 2: Fighting isn't the only solution to everything in ME. Some quests make you converse and barter with other characters for the sake of another, like the debate between that Indian guy and the scientist. You can devolop your character through dialogue, since dialogue has a few seperate skill trees. Lastly, you don't find new galaxies in ME, you're only in one. :? In fact, all the planets (which I assume you meant) are available from the start, and you can explore and research them without any combat, except when in the Mako, where on some planets you have to fight some aliens on the terrain. Really, all this incorrect leads me to believe you never even played ME, which you should (it's an excellent game), and I find your argument is somewhat invalid having not experienced the game youself.

In all seriousness, this kind of argument would be better suited for something like Fable II - It's heavily focused on combat and only merely lets you chose to be a good character or an evil character, and anything else it has to offer in terms of roleplaying doesn't even benefit much. I mean hell, I settled down and had kids, only to have my wife send me a few potions and then get killed by a banshee and my kids were taken away. >_>

And FPS/TPS games have grenades, does that erase the presence of guns? No.

Anyways how do you think you develop your character, complete quests, finding new galaxies? Fighting.

I'm saying that Mass Effect is a RPG TPS, I'm not saying it isn't a RPG.

It most certainly is an RPG, as well as TPS, since there is as much combat as there is, despite it being in the minority as far as gameplay styles in Mass Effect. I just assumed you said it was exclusively a shooter.

Erm, do you remember saying this?;

All the combat in the game is used with a gun, thus a shooter.

Yandere

I don't see any regard to it's RPG elements (Which also carry a lot more weight than it's broken, weak shooting anyway).

So pretty much every RPG is a hybrid because you do two things, develop character and story(RPG) and attack things(action, turn base strategy, shooter)?

Yes, completely disregarding the roleplaying, amounts of dialog, customization, stats and exploration, it's definitely a shooter.

MadVybz

The core of the game is it's combat, there isn't any alternative to fighting, so shooting is the games main feature.

Don't forget that completely linear story and stat changing defines RPG ;) Oh yeah, combat defines Roleplaying too, so Mass Effect and it's sequel are not Role Playing Games

(all of this is sarcasm from my part btw. sadly it isnt for others)

Mass Effect is primarily an RPG, as is Fallout 3, even though both have shooter elements.

Yandere

And Call of Duty is also a platformer because you can jump, right?

What the hell? That's the exact opposite of what he's saying. All your posts hate on WRPGs beyond belief, take into acceptance the fact that people have differing tastes than you. In Call of Duty jumping is a minor element, in Mass Effect/F3 shooting is a minor element, while RPG aspects are much bigger. You basically said the opposite trying to sound witty and failed.

What type of RPG mostly always depends upon the combat, so I don't know what your trying to point out.
