What if some company marketed a $199 HTPC running Windows with custom UI where you control everything with a controller.

Would some people buy it to couch game?

Also note I have not voted yet and probably won't.

No,I would play exclusively on the PC.

Wich, tbh,is what I almost do these days, apart from very few console exclusives that I´m really interested in.

Same here. At this point a game has to be absolutely must play (for me) And not on PC for me to get a game on console. Eliminating exclusives would save me the cost of buying hardware for those few games per year.

This.

You might as well go PC instead of playing on inferior clones.

I don't understand why you would do that. Inferior graphics, the worst online system and restrictive control system wouldn't put you off?

I don't think most people buy consoles for exclusives.

I think most people buy it because it's a plug-and-play appliance that is cheap and plays games out of the box, along with functions like netflix on their tv.

There are no Exclusives.

So I could play Uncharted, Batman, Mirror's Edge, No More Heroes, Call of Duty, etc as well as Sonic the Hedghog, Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, Mario, etc from the Bit Days.

Graphics aren't everything to me you know, and heck the Wii has other alternitives to their controls too.

I wouldn't really see the point in buying a console that had no exclusives. Why would you own it just to play the multiplats when you could buy a system that has all those multiplats PLUS exclusives? It wouldn't make any sense. Only hardcore xbox fanboys who are in denial are saying it wouldn't matter, but no one takes them seriously.

Which is odd condidering that it was an exclusive (Halo) that made the origional xbox a success (and partly the 360 too), if Halo never came out then the Xbox would have failed. Halo SAVED the system and secured it's place and created a fanbase for the Xbox.

well with no exclusives than the fanboys don't have anything to argue over and we really can't have that now.

probably would still play consoles. If only because i can still get a good experience with minimal compatiblity BS.

Really that is the primary reason i predominantly stay off PC. The only games that have a regular occurance of ***** up on console have Bethesda and Obsidian games. Other companies it is a rare occurance when something wrong happens.

but PC anything more intense then a game made 3 years ago will likely fall into some "somethingsomething.dll is missing" issue. Happened one too many times and i got sick of it.

and people. don't get me wrong, my second largest game collection is PC, the largest is the PS3 (inlcuding PSN and PSone games).

but when i get a console, i know the games designed for it, should play it well.

Don't require the bleeding edge tech to enjoy games. Wanting the bleeding edge is offsetted by the constant need to update and being at that bleeding edge - which is asking too much for something that should be designed for entertainment.

Basically expect that response. I'm not a computer guy, i'm a mechanical engineer - hell i even got a master's - but i'm not a computer or software engineer, and when i have time to unwind, the last thing i wanna do is do problem solving on my computer in order to get the game to just run. I'm not even talking about optimization, i'm just talking getting it to run without it crashing to desktop.

For me it's portability of consoles. I regularly switch between my room/living room and uni house/my home house....sometimes every weekend in the latter sense. Now unless I can build a cheap rig which fits in a bag alongside my laptop, then yeah.

If the PC versions of games ran just as well and without issue as the console versions on a consistent basis, then sure. I'd be hard pressed to see why I'd spring for a console over a PC.

I guess my answer isn't so much a yes, as a 'yes but...'.

LazySloth718

This is the second thread in a row I just looked at in which you talk about 'couch gaming'. You can connect you're PC to an HDTV and plug a gamepad to your PC (or a Wii remote or Razer Hydra) to game on your couch.

As for the topic, nope. I only own my Wii and PS3 for their exclusives (the Wii isn't even hooked up right now). I had a 360 but sold it after Gears 2 and Fable 2 failed me.

Depends if they're on PC or not. If they're PS3/360/Wii multiplats, I'll still need the console, but if they're on PC also, I'll always buy the PC version.

That being said, I mainly buy multiplats for the HD twins, seeing as their exclusives don't interest me. Except for a few such as HALO and Sly Cooper.

As in, PC has all the same games as console and therefore do I see the need in purchasing the console? Yes. PC's aren't multiplayer friendly when you actually have people next to you wanting to play. Plus attaching your PC to a TV in your living room looks trashy.
