I think the score says otherwise, regardless if the context is there or not.

Still I dont mean offend to Crysis, I liked it and I recommend it to anyone with a rig thats able to run it on medium or high just because it looks spectacular to look at. Playing Crysis works but without it, itll be lacking something that would have made the gameplay scenarios (seeing how Crysis's singleplayer was going for the whole cinematic gunplay) compelling. This is my opinion, you have yours, Gamespot has theres.

I saw numerous instances where they did incredibly stupid things. Most notably...running right past me and getting on a mounted machine gun, with their backs TOTALLY exposed to me.

The AI did occasionally stupid stuff but in the end of things they did their job, they shoot you and have a pretty nice awareness of where it should take cover or not.

Was the AI amazing? Hell no, I would crown that respect to STALKER and FEAR.

Commenting on what I've observed. I've seen physics discussed a little, nothing compared to Crysis' graphics. Crysis is always used in threads like "Graphics king? (Excluding Crysis)".

I agreee also. I was playnig Crysis for a few hours roudn my mates, and then I went and fired up CoD4 on the same computer and I literally felt my hands were tied behind my back. I wanted to complete the objectives in any way I wantedm, but no, I had to stick to one route and it just felt really restrictive.

Anyway, Crytek are the most consistent developers in the world really, probably got the best average score or something. Their 2 games have been top notch and I really like their games. I tihnk all FPS games should move in the direction of Far Cry and Crysis, and away from the corridor based realsm of CoD4 and KZ2 (KZ2 looks average and linear).

The way they panic, run, fall over ect.

Though best A.i, nothing beats FEAR, and Stalkers is also great.

Yeah, some people don't understand that making agreat open-space AI is much harder than in corridor shooter. For example FEAR AI is actualy pretty dumb and primitive, it's the clever level design that makes them behave this way. That's what the dev himself said and I doubt anyone actualy noticed while playing the game, the enemies were just that fun to fight against

Probably not. As fresh a breath of air its non-linear gameplay might have been, it wouldn't have got the attention from System Wars without being a visual powerhouse.

I mean, look at STALKER, that game is crazy good, but gets treated like a red-headed stepchild on here by non-PC gamers.

We have a winner! Totally agree there, you always see people who aren't fanboys saying how good Stalker is, yet you never see Hermits making 20 threads a day about it. Crysis is like the Hermits safety blanket, they still have the better games and everyone knows that (most just don't admit it) but whenever a graphics debate comes up they are straight back to clutching onto Crysis.

Idiotic comments aside, I have to agree with the topic title.

The moment I finished Crysis, I uninstalled the game and left it at that. It's got great concepts, it's just the execution was a little poor for my liking.

Especially the last third of the game. It was as if Crytek got lazy and decided to turn it into an epic corridor shooter.

As for the zero G environment: not exactly as riveting as they said it would be. Though when you turn the graphics on very high, I can see where the parallels with Pixar are coming from.

Lower score but not a mediocre score.

It's no more dumb or shallow than Halo or Gears Of War. In actuality, the game has more variety than these mentioned. However, the story, the charecters, motavation, seemed pretty limp. It would get a 8.5 without the high tech graphics imo.

It would still be a top game with great gameplay and story. Thats why so many talk about the good gamepaly and all they can do aswell as the cinematic story yet they play on low and medium. And even medium physics and graphic is better than all console games out now by miles.

Manhunt, Rogue Trooper and Graw of course had a cover system. Graw alone could have led to the cover system trend for all we know.

Manhunt took Killswitches ideas and did it right. All Gears added was blindfire.

there is nothing special about its cover system and quake 4 has a chainsaw so whats your point about that? being about to play full on assualt or stealth in crysis is one of the main things that makes it great. if it has been a corridor shooter with amazing graphics it wouldn't have been anywhere near as good

but much bigger levels, and customizable weapons and the nano suit adds alot of different tatically aproches that weren't possible in farcry and farcry is still one of the best sp fps and only hl2 and stalker are better so just being a pretier farcry still means its an awesome game

yes gears has great gameplay but saying crysis is only graphics is the same as saying gears is only graphics since crysis like farcay has taken fps away from corridors added awesome nano suit powers which just makes if far more fun than a typical fps.

The whole ''open ended level desing'' is what you ppl get back to the most when defending crysis, but then again what good is that kind of level design if the rest is boring and average?
