[QUOTE="skrat_01"]I would its the most life like in a game. That being their flaws.
The way they panic, run, fall over ect.
Though best A.i, nothing beats FEAR, and Stalkers is also great.
AdrianWerner
Yeah, some people don't understand that making agreat open-space AI is much harder than in corridor shooter. For example FEAR AI is actualy pretty dumb and primitive, it's the clever level design that makes them behave this way. That's what the dev himself said and I doubt anyone actualy noticed while playing the game, the enemies were just that fun to fight against
Hmmm I wouldent call FEARs a.i dumb and primitive. Sure compared to the complexity of a game like Staker or Crysis it is, however FEARs a.i is still downright good. Only a.i I have seen to crawl under spaces (be it fallen shelves), blind fire, jump over railings (from upper levels) to flank me ect.Indeed its far easier to execute in such a linear, closed enviroment game, but its still the best of its kind in that (level design) regard.
[QUOTE="AdrianWerner"][QUOTE="insanejedi"][QUOTE="dgsag"][QUOTE="jtdawg23"]If Gears of War, Gears of War 2 or Killzone 2 had average graphics, physics etc, would it be just another shooter? Are the story, gameplay and multiplyer as good as the visuals? Is the only thing that is getting this game and others in the series so much attention are the technical aspects?Verge_6
Fixed
Gears of War would still be regarded as very awesome because of it's chainsaw and cover system.
just like Crysis because of it's open levels, nanosuit, physics and AI
I would NOT tout the AI.
I would. And so would most review sites, including gamespot. There are some hiccups at times, but it's expected in a game like this with destructable enviroments and huge maps.
Lulz, I love people calling Crysis "nothing special" in gameplay, and have COD4 in their tag. If you enjoyed Far Cry, then Crysis is really the next step. I for one enjoyed playing the game different ways, from gun-totting tank, to Predator-style hunting, to super hero speed+strength. What other FPS gives you such a variety of ways to play it?
I will admit the later levels weren't as amazing since they were more linear, but then again, if the whole game was just killing Koreans, people still would have complained.
(And if you bring up STALKER as comparison, then yeah, I agree...but if there are only TWO games of this type in the history of FPSs, then they're NOT your average shooter).
[QUOTE="imprezawrx500"][QUOTE="Ragashahs"]honeslty nothing about crysis is really new or different compared to other FPS's on the market the graphics are the only real thing that set it appartDystopian-X
what console fps has open level design that is never the same? consolites continue to fail to answer this. 90% of fps are based down a corridor and only have one way through but crysis has many different way to complete each level making it much better than you average fps. stalker and parts of hl2 ep2 are the only other fps that are really open most fps are very linear and set, cod4 may fell to be big and open but everything is pre defined
The whole ''open ended level desing'' is what you ppl get back to the most when defending crysis, but then again what good is that kind of level design if the rest is boring and average?
I give it an 8 for the effort.
Sure!! but what about COD4?? Gears??
I'm not bashing them but then again what good is all is fancy whatever gameplay when the rest is also boring and average. COD4 was just COD2 with new graphics and being able to shoot through walls. Thats what I felt when i played COD4.
What about Gears?? When I played it on the PC it was fun for the first time but then later what?? It gets sooo boring. Most of the time I felt so alone and the "war felling" was almost not there at all. BTW the thing I hate the most about gears is almost for the half/entire game i only had 1 squadmate.
It would propably be hed in higher regard, at least here at SW. The graphics of Crysis often make people overlook just how damn good the core gameplay is. Some people have the tendency to think "Amazing graphics= nothing but a tech demo"AdrianWerner
What he said.
No not really, that would be like a Prius getting only 30 mpg. It would be a fuel effeciant car.... but not worth teh greenbacks
the graphics arent a huge factor really. there agreat technical achievement and alot of the marketing for the game is based around the visuals but if it only had far cry graphics and everythign else was intact then it would still be a great game imho.
however the physics are a different story. unlike the vast majority of games that use physics, crysis uses its physics engine as an integral part of the gameplay....not just to poinltessly show off. shoot down a tree to kill someone or blow their cover, crash a car into a house to take out a few guys, throw guys at other guys to kill them....thats all the physics engine at work and to take that away would change the game completly.
but yeah....if the graphics were just at far cry level but everything else was intact then it would still be a crackin game. crysis is not all show....theres actually more gameplay and possibilities to it and the vast majority of other FPSs. its not a run and gun game....if u try that then the game will kill u...especially at harder difficulty levels. planning an attack and adapting to changing situations are absolutely essential to surviving in crysis.
