That was true in the past, but manufacturers have since changed their opinion on the matter. They were worried if people smashed up their cars in the game that people would think they were of poor quality. However, they have realized that people want the most realistic experience in games possible and people will even think more favorably of their cars after experiencing them in games. It's almost like a form of advertising to them. That's why more recent racers like PGR or Forza have had licensed cars that can be damaged. If you look at a lot of older games that did have damage did not have licensed cars like Burnout or Rush. Foolio1

i lost interest in GT a long time ago. Polyphony will have to prove much to make me purchase that game.

Either way i do i agree with you, GT4 had those 2 important elements missing in it, and it kept it from reaching its usual success. if GT5 (or GTHD or w/e) does incorparate these things it will most likely steal lots and LOTS of spotlight from other racing games.
