After tons of debating, I am going to break down and buy a 360. Yes, I bashed them in the past, but a 360 is in my budget and I know that they will be around for a long time to come especially after selling 10,000,000 + systems. I can't afford to buy both a HDTV and a 360 right now. I have a nice 32" Sharp SDTV. Will that do me until I can buy a HDTV later on?

Command and Conquer and Gears Of War look awesome to me, so I think they will be worth the purchase alone.

You don't necessarily need an HDTV,but if you want the most out of your 360 gaming experience,HDTV is the way to go.

At least use a monitor, as it will look so much better than a standard TV. If you want the full experience in my opinion, you really need a nice screen, although it doesn't have to be large, just nice.

A vga cable is a cable where you connect your Xbox 360 to an Hd moniter. Something I'm going to do in the near future.

it most certainly helps.

but if you play xbox360 on a small 15-inch tv,than maybe its time to upgrade to something bigger.

IMO people blow HDTVs out of proportion. Higher resolution images obviously look better, but its not worth the cost to get a quality tv right now, and most of them have poor black levels, which makes some things harder to see. The games will look perfectly fine on a regular TV, just on some of the games the font is rather small like Dead Rising.

Using a VGA cable to play on a computer monitor is ok, but its not "night and day" like some people seem to think. But I guess its all relative.

Edited for a typo.

No it doesn't. People lie to themselves when they shell out five hundred + dollars on one to make sure they didn't waste money. I bought one and then returned it as I realized it was only a smidgen better.

I dont care about a HDTV for my living room, but I may buy a cheaper 20" HD monitor and move my 360 into the bedroom to game. That way I could afford one faster.

True they have gone down in price, but I don't think they're quite cheap enough yet, maybe by the end of this year. And it does look better, I just don't think its as better as many make it out to be. But that's just my opinion.

Not really, I own both those titles JDW, and they look good and are fun in standardized TVs, it may not look as high as something on a HD but it not like it won't make the game look or play any less extent. Thou, I considering getting a new (not HD don't think, unless I can find something 20 inch and under 300 bucks :P. Then again I thinking monitor. It more so that the TV I using it a hand-me-down of once struck-then repaired TV from the 90s.

You people are hilarious. My 50" Sony absolutely blows away a standard TV, in fact, it's not even in the same league. I use it for both console and PC, as well as 24 HP LCD for my main rig. A nice screen makes all the difference with gaming, I don't care who says what. If your too young and you don't work, or refuse to spend money on a TV at this time, you will eventually, as Movies Sports TV are all worth the investment as well in my opinion.

I'd like to keep it around $600-700, I was hoping by the end of the year the 32" Samsungs might be a bit lower. If I buy a new TV I'd want it to last for a long time.

When people as if HDTV is necessary for this generation of consoles (pertaining to X360 and PS3), they're really asking if they'll get a noticeable visual upgrade over the last gen on SDTV.  And the answer is YES.

Even with standard, you'll still get better graphics from the higher poly count, more detailed textures, more expansive environments, numerous characters on screen, particle effects and all that great stuff. Sure that HD crispness is nice, but even on standard it's a treat for the eyes. Gears of War and RainbowSix Vegas are incredible - 2 games not to be missed.

In fact I play my 360 on a 32" flat screen (not flat panel) Toshiba. I have a question for you JDW, look at the back of your TV. Does it have component inputs? (red/green/blue plugs) If so, then good news, the HD cables that comes with the X360 Pro are compatible with SDTV component. That will give you the best possible standard picture quality. If not, and it should be safe to assume you have S-video on your TV, I would recommend getting the S-video cable seperately. But still pick up the core package as the HDD, wireless controller and headset make it the better deal.

Call me shocked that you're doing this...

Anyways, no, you don't need one for the games to look great. Gears of War will look superb on a good SDTV.

Call me shocked that you're doing this...

Anyways, no, you don't need one for the games to look great. Gears of War will look superb on a good SDTV.

Verge_6
but we are talking about the difference between regular TV(tube) compared to HDTV.:P

Well, whenever I upgrade to a HDTV it's most definitely gonna be a 20" for the bedroom and just for my games. JDW_games
you may as well save a load of cash and just get a 20" pc monitor.

How much would one of those range, I might be checking in tvs/monitors tommorow. Can I get a descent one for 200-300, I heading over to Best Buy a hour 1/2 drive away. I am curious if able to hook up my PS2 and Gamecube to it as well.. (and 360).. XD

[Always curious if hook up any other type of devices like VRC or so..]

I have a 32" Sharp model with the red/yellow/white with S-video

That pretty much answers that. Now go out there and GET that 360 :)

[QUOTE="JDW_games"][QUOTE="mismajor99"]You people are hilarious. My 50" Sony absolutely blows away a standard TV, in fact, it's not even in the same league. I use it for both console and PC, as well as 24 HP LCD for my main rig. A nice screen makes all the difference with gaming, I don't care who says what. If your too young and you don't work, or refuse to spend money on a TV at this time, you will eventually, as Movies Sports TV are all worth the investment as well in my opinion.jessesalinas

Good for you. Not all of us can afford a 50" TV and some of us don't want a tv that big.

Your statement gives the impression that HDTV owners are the majority, in general among households, when in fact HD penetration is less than 20%. And not that many of the HD owners have a set bigger than 40".
