Lets say that Hypothetically speaking the Wii really dominated the PS3 and 360 so much so that Sony and MS would be forced to give up on gaming and the future of gaming was based around Nintendo consoles and the only type of games that would be out would be Mario, zelda and metroid etc, would you give up on gaming?! Honestly if that happened, I would officially give up on gaming and find a new hobby. This is under assumption that Nintendo continued with their same business model of marketing to little kids with no emphasis on online mutliplayer.. umm yea, I would definitly give up on gaming.

After such awesome games such as Gears, Halo, MGS,Resistance,Lost planet etc. Man the gaming world would be doomed if it was only nintendo, id DEFINITLY give up on gaming if gaming was all about little kid games like the Nintendo Wii.

Sigh... if that were to happen, then all those games you mentioned would be on the one Nintendo console. The only reason they backed out of the tech race for this gen was because the PS2 and Xbox were proving to be tough competitions.

instead of fighting, they stepped aside, and made the best business decision... ie. "How can sell craploads more consoles than our competiors and still make a profit?"

Next gen, if the Wii brings Nintendo back up to a status where they feel "safe", the Wii 2 (or Nintendo US) will be just as, if not more powerful than the other consoles...

1- nintendo actually makes games for other kids
2- zelda, metroid, fire emblem, starfox, fzero, smash bros, not kiddy.
3- IF ur problem with great games is that they are "kiddy" then u sir are not a gamer.
4- Nintendo is trying to add and improve its own online multiplayer.
5- Nintendo is trying to make some more "mature" games like Disaster
6- Mario is a bit of a whore, but his platformers are still the best. or atleast still top 5 in the platforming genre.
7- 3rd party would obviousaly make more games, and make them matuer.
and oh i would give up gaming period if one company owned the market. Sony adds way to many media crap that a good amount of people dont need(Blu ray). microsoft likes to charge u for everything. the fact is gaming would stink period if one company owned gaming.

this thread is stupid.  All three companies are doing fine, there is no danger.  Hypothetically speaking, I think everyone here would still be a gamer.  A lot of you voice displeasure about the wii would be sore if there were only wii games, but you would still buy the wii and play the games.  Gamers would call it a dark age, since two major companies died and a monopoly erruptted, but would ultimately still play the games.  It's like all those people who hate microsoft but still buy their products.  Why? Because its better than nothing.  If you gave up gaming then you were never really a gamer to begin with

Is that why the N64 was more powerful than the PS1? The GC was also more powerful than the PS2.

I like the Wii and love alot of Nintendo franchise's, but honestly no i probably wouldnt.

The whole "innovative" direction they've taken with the Wii just doesnt interest me.

Of course thats only if every game was like Wii sports etc., i'd still enjoy Zelda, MP etc. if they still made them.

Some people bashing guys who have somethign agianst kiddy games should keep their op[inions to themselves. I dont hate kiddy looking games, some of my favs like Monster Rancher aren't exactly mature in their art design. However the feel of a game is greatly affected by sound and looks. I can take a kid like game here and there but honestly does preferring more mature themes that dont make me feel like im eight make me an idiot? C'mon Gears wouldn't be nearly as great if it looked like mario and peopled exploded into flowery pyles of love (although it would be funny). It is the atmosphere of the game and i get sick of kid like atmospheres.

If the WII dominated I would simply turn to PC gaming and probably have a wii for some general party game use because honestly thats the only thing i have played that I thought provided a fun enough experience to jsutify actual use.

You do realize the only reason they did that was because of the competition between the three companies... If MS didn't enter the race, they'd have a console as powerful as the PS3...

And their next console will be a lot more powerful than their current one and the 360 and PS3, assuming the Wii does well...

umm actually the n64 was about twice as powerful than the ps1 and the gamecube was significantly more powerful than the ps2.

btw im 20 and i play gears of war, halo, zelda, mario and enjoy them all... so i dont see your point... you should try twilight princess.... maybe youll be surprised

I don't particularly like Wii in its current form, but I would deal with it for a gen if I had to. Give me graphics, a wii-mote that can do 1:1 sensing, and a little more action here and there, and I'm on board voluntarily.

yes they knew if they just made a graphic whore console they would loose the war just like the dreamcast did, they need to get back on their feet and get media attention before they can accuatly go all way again

It would not bother me that big HD games would go bye-bye. We got plenty of great epic games last gen on weaker hardware and such games will be on the wii as well. But, I would still quit gaming as only having one company with no competition only leads to bad things. Games would simply get worse.

Why would they?  With no hardware competition, devs only have to focus on making their game good enough so that people will buy them, not making their game work on one console or another, or convicing each community to buy their games...

You do realize the only reason they did that was because of the competition between the three companies... If MS didn't enter the race, they'd have a console as powerful as the PS3...

And their next console will be a lot more powerful than their current one and the 360 and PS3, assuming the Wii does well...

I have no problems with the power of the Wii, the only games i'm interested on the Wii are the tried and tested franchise's like Zelda, Mario, MP and SSBB, even then the control methods put me off.

If your trying to say that if Nintendo were the only game company left that they'd make a console more like PS3/360 (traditional control schemes etc.), i doubt it after the success they've had with the Wii.

Yes, a PC gamer with a DX10 video card, would not even look at nintendo's offerings at all

[QUOTE="goblaa"]It would not bother me that big HD games would go bye-bye. We got plenty of great epic games last gen on weaker hardware and such games will be on the wii as well. But, I would still quit gaming as only having one company with no competition only leads to bad things. Games would simply get worse.ssbfalco

acuattly they would have to compete directly with the pc, that means they would have to try to keep up a much stronger libary

Why would they? With no hardware competition, devs only have to focus on making their game good enough so that people will buy them, not making their game work on one console or another, or convicing each community to buy their games...

they would have to compete with the pc acuatly, a much stronger libary, it would be an intresting thing to see

I would give up the console gaming but not the PC gaming. The Wii games have not got me interested in it yet.

I don't want ANYBODY to fail where it creates a monopoly, but because I am a gamer who craves more fun, cinematic experiences in gaming, I would probably quit gaming and go to PC gaming perhaps.
