I like the Wii and love alot of Nintendo franchise's, but honestly no i probably wouldnt.

The whole "innovative" direction they've taken with the Wii just doesnt interest me.

Snugenz

You do realize the only reason they did that was because of the competition between the three companies... If MS didn't enter the race, they'd have a console as powerful as the PS3...

And their next console will be a lot more powerful than their current one and the 360 and PS3, assuming the Wii does well...

I have no problems with the power of the Wii, the only games i'm interested on the Wii are the tried and tested franchise's like Zelda, Mario, MP and SSBB, even then the control methods put me off.

If your trying to say that if Nintendo were the only game company left that they'd make a console more like PS3/360 (traditional control schemes etc.), i doubt it after the success they've had with the Wii.

No, I meant only in power... But another thing I find people keep forgetting is that the Wii accepts standard controllers as well... Guilty Gear for example will allow for a standard controller if you're not feeling the whole motion sensing bit.. (but I trust the GG devs)

The thing is, devs don't have to use the Wiimote at all. Just that it would be like making an Xbox360 game without using shaders (though I still don't see why there are Wii games without "shader" effects. The GC was able to spam them quite well in the right hands...)

Generally,  just because there's one console doesn't mean that there's only one developer... The other developers won't dissapper...

I don't want ANYBODY to fail where it creates a monopoly, but because I am a gamer who craves more fun, cinematic experiences in gaming, I would probably quit gaming and go to PC gaming perhaps.shsonline

I would probably still get a wii, but be more of a pc gamer. I havent really played pc games these last 2 years. If Nitendo was the only one in the market i would just finally upgrade my pc. My pc cant handle games like Crysis. was able to buy a wii 1st week it came out but ended up returning it cause my sensor bar was defective. Luckily one of my friends has one so problem solved. One of my guilty pleasure wii game is DBZ budaki tenkachi 2. The wii remote/nunchucks makes the game really fun to play single or with friends.

edit: might get flamed for it but there are a lot of Nitendo games i cant stand playing. Some of them cause i grew out of and some not my preference in game.

anyone who says no doesnt rememeber that there is a reason Nintendo has been around since it revived the gaming industry after death and it continues to release hit games that are deemed "kiddy" by kids who seem to love the color red and sexual content

Sorry, but I'd rather play real games like MGS, Gears of War, Unreal Tournament, Lair, Ratchet and Clank, etc, over mini-game compilations and cooking sims. Nintendo was great at one time, I've got very fond memories of NES and SNES, even some from N64 (though not nearly as many), but they've since lost their way.

Then you'd see that all the devs would only have 1 console to work with, and the same games you like so much, would be avaliable in their standard form. Nintendo would be able to make a console with up to date horsepower in it (which they will in reality next gen whether or not the Wii does good)even more important if your only competitor is the PC, and then System Wars would dissapear, since every game would be relased on this one console...

And if you (and a lot of others here) want to think that the current consoles could ever dissapear suddenly, it's not like the Wii can't use a standard controller...  Heck, my old Cube controllers plug in just fine... and I hear the classic controller with it's wireless glory works just as well..

Lets say that Hypothetically speaking the Wii really dominated the PS3 and 360 so much so that Sony and MS would be forced to give up on gaming and the future of gaming was based around Nintendo consoles and the only type of games that would be out would be Mario, zelda and metroid etc, would you give up on gaming?! Honestly if that happened, I would officially give up on gaming and find a new hobby. This is under assumption that Nintendo continued with their same business model of marketing to little kids with no emphasis on online mutliplayer.. umm yea, I would definitly give up on gaming.

After such awesome games such as Gears, Halo, MGS,Resistance,Lost planet etc. Man the gaming world would be doomed if it was only nintendo, id DEFINITLY give up on gaming if gaming was all about little kid games like the Nintendo Wii.

From the looks fo things you were never really a "gamer" to begin with

How am I not a gamer?! I loved Nintendo.. back when I was 11 but lets face it im 22 years old now, I play Gears and resistance multiplayer on a daily basis, i just couldnt go to Super paper mario and zelda after the online gaming experience

I started gaming on the PC with Warcraft 2 and Diablo when I was like 8 - 10 (kids having M rated games wasn't a big deal back then - most weren't very graphic). So yeah, I've always had awesome online multiplayer, and thats never stopped me from enjoying a great singleplayer expierience.

I would give up gaming. The Wii is a HOOOORRRRIBBBLEE console with nothing but price point going for it. Its games are all shovelware, except TP which I can get on Gamecube anyway, sans the crappy wiimote controls.

I despise Nintendo this generation. Absolutely.

I loved SNES, I liked N64 a lot, I disliked GC completely and I hate the Wii with all my heart.

Misleading title should say would you still be a gamer if Nintendo Wii was the only console on the Market and remained the same as it is.  Though this is a really stupid question.

First of all, Nintendo would be charging insane prices for their stuff, there is no way to justify only having one console maker. Secondly, maybe you haven't followed closely, but Nintendo no longer cares about gamers, they want crap like Cooking Mama and Brain Age flooding the market. They certainly wouldn't be looking to push something like MGS.

I was around when Nintendo pretty much had a monopoly on the market, back in the NES days. I still played games, and I probably would still play games if they were the only company left on the market. Nintendo licenses, you know. Pretty much every major developer that was around in those days released games on the NES. Capcom, Konami, Square, Activision, Tecmo, and plenty more. Even if Nintendo was the only platform, the third parties would still be releasing games, just on the Wii.

I'd swith over to PC so I wouldn't be giving up gaming, just console gaming, and that doesn't make me a fanboy, again it simply means I don't want to support a monopoly. You obviously have no way of backing your idiotic argument so I will not continue this discussion further.

PC will always be there and i would still buy game from Nintendo there a great dev and if they were the only System all 3rd party will make games for them not just the bad devs. But this won't happen MS,Sony,Nintendo statistically can go on for 1 or 2 more gens each at there current pace. so even if they tank they can still go on 2 more gens. IMHO i think MS will end up giving up or changing it's marketing planes cause  MS makes up only 25% of gaming maybe even less they only have the Xbopx 360 while nintendo has GBA,DS,Wii and Sony has PS2 and PS2 and PSP. MS makes up a small portion of gaming and it needs to expand and it seems there marketing to a certain Community that isn't that big. IMO i think MS will bring it's console closer and Closer to PC's than towards Console gaming. I really think they may one day make there console be able to install and run PC games i really think one day it will come to that for MS.

Very doubtful. Nintendo has ALWAYS been the less technical superior console.

Not always, the N64 was more powerful than the ps1 and saturn, but the lack of optical drive messed it up. Just shows that the most powerful option doesn't always work maybe?

Yes, a PC gamer with a DX10 video card, would not even look at nintendo's offerings at all

Im a PC gamer with a DX10 video card, and I still love Nintendo and the Wii.

Actually, I have a high end gaming pc with a dx10 card and just a Wii and none of the other consoles.

Why you ask?

I can easily get my "oh, I'm a graphicwhore"-fix on my pc and play the games I like online with friends with it. If friends come over and we want to play something there's that white little console that's just perfect for such a thing.

Happy friends and happy me.

Nintendo be the only game company...hmmmmm, great! So all the games will go to one system and when try mario

out they will realise they were wrong to mock his games. Also why act like Nintendo only has mario games? The Wii has

heaps of games coming to it from all different game types including third party companies. If you gave up on

gaming just because Nintendo took over then you surely were not a real gamer to begine with

It would probably mean the end of the industry if things got to that point. One company alone is not good. I would probably stop being a gamer, Mario, Zelda and such are not my type of games. I'm 26, can you blame me for saying that?

They would have to completely change their strategy and their game library to get my money.

Yeah, I kinda blame you a bit for mentioning your age in there. Not liking something is perfectly fine, but not liking it just because of "Oh, I think that's childish, but I'm a big boy who likes grown up things!" is just lame and childish (sweet irony) in my book.

However I totally agree that a monopoly probably would be a bad thing for the console gaming industry, well, mostly for the consumer.

[QUOTE="lusitanogamer"]It would probably mean the end of the industry if things got to that point. One company alone is not good. I would probably stop being a gamer, Mario, Zelda and such are not my type of games. I'm 26, can you blame me for saying that?isDoooomed

Suddenly honesty has become something lame and childish.:? I really don't get some of you guys. Would you rather have me saying a lie. I don't like childish games now (i used to love Mario when i was a kid) but that doesn't mean i find them bad. A guy can't give his honest opinion anymore without someone jumping on you...

BrutonNYC

Your logic is increibly flawed. If there is only one console in the market, all the games that would have been on Sony or MS systems would go to the that single console. It is like doing the 'Sega' go software-only.

Your assumption is completely wrong too. Nintendo is NOT marketing to little kids, they are aiming to bring gaming to as wide a demographic as possible including young, mature and elderly gamers. Nintendo IS bringing out online multiplayer.

Your post is so ignorant and flawed, that this is most definitely flamebait. Give up on gaming? Good riddance.

Well, you could always move to the PC for high end stuff, but even then, I enjoy the oldies. Just like I enjoy the oldies telly and film and music.

[QUOTE="Gamer46"]I read them all.Gamer46

So, what you're saying is, Hideo Kojima, Mark Rein, John Carmack, Juilian Eggebrecht, and David Jaffe would just drop their beloved franchises and become complete idiots?

I would still be a gamer if Nintendo left the market, but I would stick to the classics, basically only buying anything in generations with Nintendo involved. I'm far from a fanboy, I've gotten every system of the last 2 gens and played them all quite a bit. But Nintendo just does something for the gaming world, pushing other game makers to create more creative & fun ways to play. If they ever left, there titles would suffer the same fate as Sega, which was a rough blow within itself.

  • PS1 = 100 million Nintendo still stays
  • PS2 = 100 million Nintendo and MS still stay
  • Even if the Wii dominates MS and Sony will still stay
  • Sega Quit making consoles and Panzer still stayed

I would never quit console gaming. I'd just have to use the PC a little more then I normally do.

What I said was that it's lame to not like a game just for the sake of acting "adult" because adults do not play games a child wants to play too (ofc this is bull$hit, but it appears that alot of people think like this).

It's an entirely different thing if they don't appeal to you anymore for whatever reason else. To mention your age just gave me a bit of the impression that you're part of that first group and the "can you blame me for saying that?" part just looked like an invitation for the answer you got from me, I'm sure you understand it now.

What I did not say is that "honesty has become something lame and childish" and if I really wanted to jump you on this I surely wouldn't have used words like "I kinda blame you a bit". Take it easy, everyone knows only retards argue on the internet and systemwars is the hardcore version of that. ;)

btw. I'm also 26 and don't really like this type of games too, I'm more of a tactical shooter/rts guy. But some of them are great to play together with friends and having a great time, and they're even better if you don't have to worry about the fact that they're childish, who cares? The fun counts and nothing else.

So, no harm done, happy thoughts! :)
