If sales are so important why are the BIG game developing studios absent on Wii?

it a number of things:

3rd parties aren't putting big games on the system. i'm sure resident evil 5 or gta4 would have sold well on whatever system they was on.

you also have a larger potential audience by multiplating between pc, 360 and ps3. 360 + ps3 = 50 million which is the wii userbase + pc = dunno alot. so you can get sales of 13 million or whatever with cod4 across the 3 systems, whereas on wii you might only get 3 million (still good sales)

it's also down to developers following each other they see the ps3/360 and pc as the hardcore systems so they all develop on them systems, to make their "hardcore" games.

nintendo since n64 have always been about nintendo games the 3rd party support has never been good, so it's not just because of the wii.

Where are the Wii versions of Bioshock/ Mass Effect/ RE5/ GTAIV/ GeoW1+2/Crysis2/Dragon Age etc etc? Or sales on their own give you NO advantage? Maybe you need the hardware to back them up?

True_Gamer_

heh. are you seriously asking where is the Wii version of GeoW 1 and 2?

i want to know when the ps3 is going to get GeoW 1 and 2 as well

Because those developers don't want to make watered down last-gen games with waggle.

And hardcore games don't sell.

TC your statement is going to backfire on you, because hardcore games don't sell on the wii (so sales do matter). The wii just has a large install base.

Espada12
Says a lot about the Wii and who buys it....... which relates to sales.

or maybe because 3rd party "hardcore" games tend not to sell...at all on the wii.

dragonfly110

how many big name franchises were created for the wii? most are pretty bad ports down. yet they still sell okay. if they actually made one that started on the wii I think it could sell well.

Conduit Madworld and red steel all say hi.

LOL dude.Madworld, Conduit and Madworld put together didnt have the budget or advertisement of Bioshock or GT4,you are comparing small fries made in a year to behemonths that costed over 15 million dollars done in years. That was such a poor comeback from you.No, no big game has even tried on the wii to say it would fail or not..But Bethesda stated they are working in an epic mature wii game so i guess that could be the one.

Cinematic or "gore for gore's sake" games don't sell. Not many have tried doing good, arcade-style games on the system and advertised them to start the word of mouth radio. Well, except Nintendo.

r5 is in discussion by Capcom btw, they stated they might use the Cavia engine to port RE5 on the wii.GEO is not for PS3 and Bioshock is not for 360.Naming a few titles doesnt means squat when Square which is bigger than either is doing FFCB on the wii , capcom devotes MH3 for the wii, as well as exclusive REs.Activision got good profits from doing ports from COD to wii, Ubisofts red steel sold well over a million, heading into a sequel. Dont say the bigggest devs arent on the wii while in fact, the BIGGEST devs are indeed on the wii.

Capcom is bringing over Tatsunoko vs Capcom on the Wii

Namco Bandai is developing a Tales Mothership Game for the Wii

Square Enix is relasing Dragon Quest X on the Wii

I dont know about you but I think those developers can be considered "Big Name"

I never expected Wii to be an uber hardcore console but to me it has a lot going for it especially in its 2009-10 lineup.

In the end, the sales dont matter if you just game to have fun with a console(s) and games YOU want.

This just looks like another thread to bash the Wii (again)

You cant please everyone I suppose.

DQ10 I'll give you, but I'll caveat it with the fact that DQ games never have been about super-complex graphics--anime-like graphics are easier to render so aren't so taxing for the Wii. But the thing is, is there a company whose putting its headline big-budget game on the Wii? FFCB, TvC, and so on look (pardon my French) like second-string titles that, were they on the PS3 or 360, would more likely be downloadables. And Innocentguy757, the PS3 has the lowest attach rate. The Wii's is actually pretty good (around 4, last I heard).

Thats the problem right there. I imported and played Tatsunoko vs Capcom (which has gameplay similar to marvel vs capcom) and there was nothing in that title that was "second-string" Noticed I never mentioned Crystal Bearers in my arguement so why bring it up in the response? And I see no reason to brush off the upcoming Tales game unless youre just not interested in it but it is a "big" deal. I never really understood the definition of "Big" that op is using but if it relates to important 3rd party game franchises there is evidence that there are titles like that on the Wii. Since using the word "Big" as in Big budget doesnt make sense to me since the Wii is not exactly similar to the PS3 and Xbox 360 so there wouldnt be an obscene amount of money being used to produce a Wii title.

I agree. Not that many GREAT mature titles ... seems like they've focused on things other than great gameplay on the ones out.

"Big" as in the majority of your production costs don't go into the coding but into the rest of the game (the part the involves art, sound, and other platform-agnostic materials). "Big" as in your headliner, the title most associate with your company (now, it's arguable what's Square-Enix's headliner: DQ is huge in Japan, but FF makes a bigger splash on the global market). "Big" as in the console is your primary focus rather than your afterthought.

A more elaborate version of the reasons why "hardcore" stuff doesn't sell from last page

Yeah, MadWorld was just trying to be "mature" for the sake of it. Not a good idea with the Expanded Audience being what it is.

Interestingly, High Voltage is largely on a right track with the Wii. It's doing games no one else is doing on the system, and clearly putting effort into it. They have a certain enthusiasm that's been lacking and don't wish to be superstars. They've got a humble, customer-oriented attitude of themselves, and, to an extent, their games. They just need to on board the Wii Value Train (emphasis: Colour, arcade gameplay, uncinematic, ass-kicking, interesting motion control, local multiplayer if it's natural) and we'll see them compete with Nintendo, even ^^

People also need to remember that Wii titles tend to sell slowly but steadily, instead of a huge peak followed by a pitiful trickle.
