Since the PC is the most popular gaming platform I would assume that the mouse and keyboard is the most popular method of control.

[QUOTE="DragonfireXZ95"][QUOTE="SOedipus"] If by playing multiplayer with a friend, rather than on another computer at some other location...then yes. You know...being social?SOedipusYou just said Lan, which means local area network, which means in the same room. You know... being social? Or at school :P I only own one computer so my friend/family wouldn't have anything to play on unless they brought their computer over to my place, which is kind of nerdy. I mean I play games and I'm discussing them on forums, but even that would be too much for me. Really? You think some girls are just gonna walk in while you guys are playing and yell, "nerds!"? People take their social status way too seriously, You'll never have any fun in life if you don't know how to take risks. You'll never know how fun it is until you try it, so until then, you have no say on how lanning compared to split screen is. :P
And really, you think posting on a video game site is less nerdy than Lanning? I was doing lanning long before I was ever on forums, and I think forum posting is much nerdier. If you're on here arguing about which is better, you're already a complete nerd.
Back in highschool, I actually went to an anti-prom lan party. You know how many people we had show up? 35 people, with 30 computers. That was the most kick ass lan party I have ever been to. We had teams of 6 in a big counter strike tournament. Seriously, don't knock it until you try it.
PCs cost at least three times the cost of even the most expensive console.Olimar_the_MinHuh? So a $600 PC is three times the cost of a $400 PS3? Check your math.
Consoles have more precise controls and a larger userbase, not everyone can pay for internet/pc/other stuff.Olimar_the_MinNo to controls, and no to the larger user base. The PC is the most popular gaming platform in the world. KB/M is much more accurate than a controller. And 10 million WOW users would disagree about the "nobody can afford internet" thing. What console game has 10 million people playing online? So much for your user base thing. I'm not even a PC gamer but that post was a little... misguided.

 Hey maybe you'd like to play some STALKER on master difficulty with a gamepad, I'd really love to see that.
Gamepads require you to move slowly whilst mouses move to the other side of the screen with a small push, which is extremely frustrating.

That's a lot different than what you were saying before. Before you said a controller was more accurate, period. And we all know that is false.

I think it's just general preference as I find the controller much more precise than the mouse.

Fine, it's a preference. But don't say controllers are more accurate, because they just aren't.Consoles are user-friendly. PC's not so much.jharvSure they are, it just depends on how friendly you want to get.
Consoles are user-friendly. PC's not so much.jharv
PCs are constantly getting more user friendly - if you'd see the DOS/Win 95 era you wouldn't say anything about how un-user friendly the PC is these days.
At the same time, the consoles are getting less plug 'n' play (installs, updates etc.) every generation, if they continue the way the do, next gen they probably couldn't even be considered to be consoles anymore.

Oh yeah god, today's PC software is cake compared to DOS/Win95/Win98. People think it's hard to use XP and Vista? They should have been around when they only had Win95/98. Or hell, even Windows 3.1. :PAt the same time, the consoles are getting less plug 'n' play (installs, updates etc.) every generation, if they continue the way the do, next gen they probably couldn't even be considered to be consoles anymore.HenriH-42
Yeah, that's what I think we're going towards right now. People speculate about how consoles will turn into generic "game-players" with one universal format for all games, but I think consoles and PCs will eventually just merge into one catch-all entertainment device/personal computer. Handhelds will probably hold out for longer, but eventually they'll merge with smart-phones.

Yep. The amount of lost hair because of "out of memory" and "runtime error: xxxx" errors and getting soundcards to work is pretty high. Kids these days don't know how easy they have it.
I guess that means in a way that... console gaming is dying? How ironic. :?Yeah, that's what I think we're going towards right now. Yawn, another boring thread of PC gamers feeling insecure about consoles being the 'it' platform.speedsix
The thing is that consoles get the best games, including shooters, that's why i bought a console when i had a great PC. IcEpicK22PCs get almost all the good shooters that come to consoles.
L4D> CS:S>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Halo3, gears, R2, etcDave_NBF
Simply not true and if you believe that your cred is shot. CS:S is one of my all time favorite games but it is more like a fond memory now. I feel you PC's guys get a little to stuck in the past. CS:S is not better than any of those games you listed actually it feels quite dated in comparison.
I dont want to have to spend a fortune on a decent pc.
And to be honest i played halo ce on pc the other day, and I got completely owned, becasue i wasnt used to pc controls.
While on the other hand im pretty good at halo on consoles, so I know what I would rather do.
I personally wouldn't say it is dying... it is already dead. The PS2 and Gamecube were the last "true" plug-n-play consoles to ever exist. Even the Wii has some PC features integrated into its platform. As a long time console gamer, I feel saddened by it. Consoles are meant to be different from PC's, which is why I've always enjoyed both so much, they always offered different experiences. Now "console" gaming is just copying everything that is on PC and not allowing end-user customization.foxhound_fox
Yeah I know what you mean. My friend who's a console gamer from the NES days feels exactly the same way. Console gaming and PC gaming used to be completely different from each other, console gamers were happy - PC gamers were happy (and those who gamed on both were probably VERY happy.) The modern consoles are basically cheap PCs without customization, and now nobody's happy. The cla$$ic genres that belonged to the consoles have been steadily disappearing, platformers, fighters, jRPGs - there are still those games around, but the sales charts are dominated by shooters - traditionally a PC genre. Consoles try way too hard to copy PC these days, the Wii is the only "true" console this gen since it's not trying to be a PC, too bad the devs don't realize this and it's mostly filled with shovelware while 360 and PS3 get all of the big games. :?
From working on computers to just working in front of them for 4-5 years, I kind of don't want to see a computer when I get home now. If it wasn't for that I would buy a new graphics card right now.
People are always trying to warp the meaning of console popularity. At the end of the day it comes down to price and accessibility, not superiority that many fanboys seem to daydream about.
Consoles really are not as practical for shooters as gaming PCs are, but many people are willing to trade practicality for convenience.
I love playing the older shooters on the PC but not the newer ones. I find myself scrambling to push the right key to get something done, even after I configure the controls. Although aiming is a lot easier I just find it more convenient to play it on the consoles, and I would take splitscreen over LAN anytime.SOedipus
It's called getting a little practice.
People play more than just shooters.EuroMafia
Exactly. PC gamers tend to spend all hours on just one game, where as console games like to vary their evenings - a couple of hours of Gears, a couple of CoD, a race on Forza 2 and end with a fight on SF2 HD - then a bit of off-line with some single player Fallout 3 etc.
Gears owns CS.SituationArea11I usually find people who say this suck as CSS and 1.6, CS is not for people who think " well i can just jump in right!" no, you cant, this is not your average shooter at all, maybe if you played the game a little more and understood the game a little better, then i would respect your statement. Gears in no way, in skill, or fun, beats CS, those 2 factors are why 1.6 STILL gets played after 10 years, and why gears will never get played passed this console generation. Its your opinion of course, but do some research and PLAY the game you that you claim "Gears" owns, and then come back with a good reason why, and no "i can play wit my friendz" does not count as a reason.

I'm quite accomplished at fps PC gaming, but feel the same. I feel greater immersion with a controller, especially with vibration (though I do have a big sub-woofer under my PC ;) )

That, and more accurate controls for FPS isn't gonna make me a full time PC gamer; I play the odd RTS game now and then though.[QUOTE="EuroMafia"]People play more than just shooters.SgtWhiskeyjack

Um, no. On a gamenight I might jump from TF2 to rome total war to Falcon 4.0 to Project Reality mod for BF2 to Homeworld. And if you are simply not interested in gaming on a PC, what then? Give up shooters?SUD123456/Thread Some people grew up playing console games. The ease of console gaming is something thats too often ignored by hermits. Not everyone wants to be constantly tweaking settings, having driver issues, or finding out that their PC can't produce graphics that anywhere near what they've seen in reviews, screenshots and commercials.
And if you are simply not interested in gaming on a PC, what then? Give up shooters?SUD123456Why are you not interested on gaming on a PC? His point is, if you are mainly into FPS games and all other genres are a distant second, than PC is definitely for you. However, if you your main genre is not FPS games, yet you still enjoy FPS once in a while, it is alright to play it on a console.
