but at Target its only $30
And at Walmart its ONLY $20
What the heck is so great about Steam when they cant keep up with retail on things like this?

Steam is just a store
Steamworks is what makes it
but people like it for the deals only
because alll other services are like steam in most of the features
Steam...overrated...yes
Okay, really? One game? There are a ton of packages in steam that you can save hundreds of dollars with.
The sales are stellar, and the unified service is great for certain PC games.
New release prices are often priced the same as retail, most likely due to the publishers, but certain games tend to go on sale a lot during the course of being available on Steam.
For my short-lived thrid attempt at PC gaming, I really liked Steam. It was the only thing that kept me there. I got both Oddworlds for $2! :)
Some games are bound to slip through the cracks, though. Not that I thnk this is the most straight-faced thread I've seen ;)
On older games, yes. But new releases I'll never understand why someone wouldn't go for a hardcopy seeing as how the prices are the same.Okay, really? One game? There are a ton of packages in steam that you can save hundreds of dollars with.

Because products thatare sellingwell don't see price drops. That's just how business is. New Vegas is probably seeing consistent sales on Steam where as at retail sales have dropped offsince launchand there is a surplus of stock that needs to be moved. Don't worry though.I guarantee you'll see New Vegas for about $20 when Steam has its summer sale in a couple months.
For what 1 day? Yeah i see what your doing but you missed the point.I dunno.. why is GTA complete 40 bucks at walmart and 10 on steam?
Espada12
Let's completely discredit the summer and winter sales!
Also let's forget we never had GTAIV:Complete Edition for $10 yesterday.
Because on Steam, you can get all these games for $40.
At Walmart, you... oh right.

It's actually all weekend.. and I think you missed my point as well. That's exactly why it's such a great service.. because you get deals like that.

And then It's another game that's cheaper... just like every other weekend, wich makes Steam awesome.

what makes steam better then other stores? well idk i think fanboys don't realize when a game goes onsale on steam, that doesn't mean it can't go on sale elsewhere,

Some of these sales, however, can be drastically better. Especially on some of the packages that they put on sale. In the holidays the had a pack where you saved over $200 IIRC.
Naturally, all stores have sales, I guess it's the extent to which the do, and how often they do.

True, at this point... it's all about if your prefer DD over Hard copy. Hard copy games for PC is over for me.

Err because the type and frequency of the sales is not even close to steam?
"Hey EB Games, how much is Fallout New Vegas?"
"88.00 AUD? Screw that I'd just buy it from Steam during their deals."
The world doesn't revolve around America you know.
It's good as a store because of the deals. I got like 40 games for a little over $100 during the Christmas sale, quite a few coming out within the last 2-3 years. It's a pretty bad place to buy games when they're not discounted honestly.
cain006
You mean pretty average place...

Not really, Direct2Drive is usually better if you're buying a relatively new game because you can usually get a 20% off code.

TC lied, it's $30 at Walmart, plus tax.
Secondly, that's the beauty of competition.
Lastly, if you wanna go blow for blow with services. Let's check the price of New Vegas on XBL and PSN... oh wait.
bargains are bargains, ill admit sometime PC gamers act like console games dont ever go on sale though.
Granted localized sales are convenient though.
Retail PC games usually drop in price quicker than with digital distribution. Although there are many great deals that come on Steam and other DD sites, you can ge some great deals on games that you can find in a PC shelf in Gamestop and Wal-Mart.
Steam is only good during their sales, otherwise they are quite bad compared to other DD sites. D2D is actually much better imo, and has way better deals however I am addicting to all my games showing up in my steam account along with autopatching, at this point I dont care for boxed games
One game? Stop it. Every SINGLE game is overpriced on Steam. Usually double price of retail.Okay, really? One game? There are a ton of packages in steam that you can save hundreds of dollars with.

Wow lol. I bought Bioshock for £5 in the UK... 2 years ago. That price is pathetic. FYI. I bought Bioshock 2 for $7 a few months back. I wonder what it costs on Steam... €25?yeah steam prices can be overated . I saw bio shock for 15$ and on steam its 20$ .

Lets not forget the following features:
Steam Cloud
Valve provides a service called Steam Cloud. For supported games, Steam Cloud stores various amounts of game data, such as keyboard shortcut settings and single-player game saves, on a central server. Any changes to relevant game files are uploaded to the main server, and newer files are automatically downloaded and used when a game is started.
Browser
Steam includes a tabbed Webkit based browser which can be accessed in-game.
Steamworks
SteamPlay, the Mac OS X client will allow players who have already purchased compatible products in the Windows version to re-download the Mac versions at no cost, allowing them to continue to play the game on the other platform
Automatic Driver Support
"Steam represents an evolution for PC and online gaming, and the availability of ATI Catalyst graphics driver updates directly on the Steam platform can help further enhance the PC gaming experience for users of ATI Radeon products," said Ben Bar-Haim, corporate vice president of software for AMD. "AMD now has the opportunity to helpdeliver an even better experience for PC gamers."
