I'd like to see Wal-Mart or Target match the sales Steam has, especially during Christmas.

try comparing recent games. crysis 2 was $38 on amazon over the weekend. steam has had any deals on crysis 2 yet. also compare dead space 2, black ops, rift and pretty much any other recently releases game to amazon and walmartI dunno.. why is GTA complete 40 bucks at walmart and 10 on steam?

I don't understand the point you are making. I'm merely point out why steam is a great service. If you want to set special parameters then by all means do so however all I am saying is that the insane deals are what make steam so good. You don't find things like the THQ pack or Square Enix pack on amazon or in walmart.

Anyways, this isn't console gaming, we don't always jump at every new release. It's good to have sales on older games too. Besides, the huge sales are absolutely amazing.

That comes with 3 very different music games, one of the best tower defense games ever, SMB, Amensia, one great fps game, another good one, an arcadey game, and some others I haven't heard of. Most people who have played these games said they're good. Just because you haven't heard of them doesn't mean they're bad.

I like posts like this because it makes clear when the poster doesn't know anything about Steam.
If you missed the previous sale on New Vegas (yes, it was on sale before), you can wait for another inevitable sale, or grab it from Gamestop as you suggested. You see, the thing with Steamworks is even if you buy a game retail (like from GS), you still get every benefit of Steam in addition to your hard copy. So you can hold on to the disk if you wish, or toss it out and just use Steam's servers as if you bought it from them. Steam lets you do that, because Steam is awesome. ^^
all i'm talking about is pricing on new nad recent games. 9 times out of 10 you'll find a better price elsewhere.Amnesia, Super Meat Boy, and Killing Floor are all must own games from that pack.[QUOTE="SAGE_OF_FIRE"][QUOTE="NanoMan88"]

Am I the only person who buys games when they're on sale? I swear all my steam games 30+ have all been bought when like 50% off or in a bundle pack...Fightingfan
I do.
Most console gamers buy their game in the first month because after that there is apparently an expiration date and you're a poor loser if you play a game older than a month on consoles. (CoD is the exception)

Just looks like that cause most console gamers buy there games used. Which aren't on anyones books but gamestops. You pay for convenience. Steam offers goods you can buy at any time with minimal hassle so they price the goods at a premium until a sale. Contrary to popular belief the sales aren't because Valve is generous but because it draws people into the Steam client. Once said client is installed it is highly likely someone will buy from it.

Indeed. But it's not just console gamers' preferences. Console games sales die out after 8 weeks because the ammount of used copies that flood the market by then.People go where the deals are. Steam just happens to have a lot of them. People wouldn't talk about Steam often if they weren't able to get high budget games for $5-$10. It doesn't matter if the sale is for a week or for one day. The fact that the consumer has the chance to pay the cheaper price is the reason for Steam's popularity.
You're going to see competition from both digital and physical retailers. Not all sales are going to be fantastic on Steam. The majority of them just happen to occur on Steam.

Oh no, Steam doesn't match individual retail outlet sales! Steam has tons of deals as well, it may not be cheap for the newest games "I generally get boxed copies of new games anyways" but for older stuff there is almost always a sale, and the whole Steamworks just...works in general. I'm a large advocate of buying my games in Physical format before even looking for DD outlets, but for those games I can't get at a store Steam works great. That New Vegas is $50
but at Target its only $30
And at Walmart its ONLY $20
What the heck is so great about Steam when they cant keep up with retail on things like this?

Where else can you get high budget games for 5 to 10$?
Also, 1 day sale does matter... in the way that it's awesome for people who were able to get it. It's like futurshop having weekend deals or night deals... it's the same freaking thing.

You couldnt name one game? The point is other places have deals for a longer period. Portal 2 has been $35 at Best buy for awhile now. Gamestop has had Fallout NV at $20 for at least a month now.I just bought Grand Theft Auto 4: Episodes from Liberty City for $7.49 off steam. Let me see you get that at Target or Walmart. I bought Mass Effect over a year ago off Steam for $5. Got Overlord for less than $1 and Overlord 2 for less than $2. I got Oblivion Game of the year "deluxe edition" for less than $5 off Steam. That New Vegas is $50

The only game I care about on that list is Amnesia and of course even when steam has a sale they get beat. Amazon hasthe download version for $8. Its been at that price for at least 2 weeks now, not some lame weekend sale.

So you people are honestly argueing that Steam should be the absolute end all when it comes to prices? How dare you mention Best Buy and portal2 when Walmart sells it's PS3's for 7 cents cheaper!

[QUOTE="XVision84"]On older games, yes. But new releases I'll never understand why someone wouldn't go for a hardcopy seeing as how the prices are the same. Hardcopy takes up space in my shelves and I have to wait for the stores to be open. The store might be sold out, might not come out in my region etc. DD version is always there, ready to be downloaded.Okay, really? One game? There are a ton of packages in steam that you can save hundreds of dollars with.

Its quite nice not having to bother looking for disks, the games are tied to your account so you can play them on any PC, its rather handy.
Steam as a store is great because it has a large selection, is well organized, and periodically offers amazing sales.
Steam is not the only DD site that does deep discounts, but when Steam does sales, it often does so on a larger quantity and variety of games.
I picked up The Witcher Enhanced last year for $5 off Amazon.com, but most of the other games in that sale were meh. Microsoft usually only has like one good deal at a time on its Games for Windows portal, and pretty much the same for D2D. Impulse and GamersGate are closer to Steam in the kinds of sales they offer, but sometimes their sales aren't always exactly the highest quality games on their site (for instance, this week is hidden object week at gamersgate, not exactly my cup of tea). You can usually find better prices on boxed copies that are semi-new releases, but those same games will almost invariably be part of the following holiday sales for 75% off from the digital sites. The 48 hour sales at GoGamer are sometimes still one exception, among others. So yes, you can pay $25-$30 now for games that are a few months old, or $40-$45 for some brand new games that would otherwise be $60 (Crysis 2), but at the end of the year you can get them for $5-$20 in the big publisher sales on the digital sites, so it kind of just depends on where your at in terms of your gaming needs.

Lol nice argument.
"Games on Steam are more expensive!!!!"
"Not these games - lists games"
"Those games were overpriced anyway!"
Nice, very nice.
