If the PC is a bad gaming platform, why is that consoles mimic it as times goes on?
Online service, Web browsing, Hard drive, Movie services, Music services, Communication with other players, etc. etc.
I see people slamming the PC (price, "lack" of games, "poor" control) - yet the are slamming the very same thing their consoles are trying to copy.

Because they are jealous of it and likely too ignorant to be able to have on because they are under the misconception that its expensive.

So instead, they buy a console wishing it was like a PC and get reamed by the high cost of games.

99.9% of the reasons console fanboys say PC gaming is worse are misconceptions based from ignorance of the platform. The PC can be anything you bloody well want it to be. It has the most high quality titles, can use gamepads, can hook up to your console set up, and pretty much provide the same experience with multiplayer split screen; While offering afforable prices that over time may be cheaper.

PC gaming is great and all, but the HD2900 is going to cost as much as a 360 in stores. I just saw an 8800 card at futureshop for $470. I'm not bashing PC gaming but lets face it, its way more expensive that console gaming.pundog
Up front maybe, but you have to look at accumulative costs over time to even have a valid arguement. While the face value of PC gaming is definitely more expensive, and by how much can be argued (even as low as 100 more than your average console), the price of PC gaming versus console gaming if you were to compare with the same experience, could easily be less expensive for the PC over a longer period of time. You do not have to upgrade over the span of a generation to acheive graphics similar to if not better than consoles.

PC gaming has costed me less money than console gaming. It's rare to find games with as much replay value as those on PC. I played Diablo II for nearly 4 years, Counter-Strike lasted me to today, and the Half-Life 2's Source Engine has kept me happy with its mods for a while.

Check out this list of the R600 products. Yes the top-of-the-line HD2900 XTX2 is going to cost an arm and a leg... but they also offer a range of cards all the way from things like the HD 2300 XT (which is more powerful than my X1650Pro and costs half as much) all the way up to the top. Which is usually another misconception about PC gaming. Many think there is only one card available and it is the most expensive one.

While I love my console games, there's just no question that the PC is a superior system, for games and otherwise. There are some awesome games for consoles that for control reasons I can't imagine playing on a PC (Devil May Cry, Legend of Zelda, etc), but they're mainly the exception rather than the rule. I think a large amount of people just like consoles because they're quicker and easily accessible, you don't need to know stuff about specs and such. Makes things much easier for casuals in particular.

The only major, standout drawback to PC gaming in my opinion is the fact that it's worlds easier to pirate games on computer than on consoles, which hurts developers significantly.

No, console games are increidbly easy to pirate just by flashing a copy of it from Blockbuster. Its just because the vast majority of console consumers are too bad to know how to do this. Its not that PC gaming is EASIER to pirate for.

and when will people understand that paying $400+ for a graphic card alone + cost of the rest of the stuff cost more than a console.. and at the same time say console game cost more when you can always find games at bargain price faster than a pc. do some simple math

800 buck pc vs 400 or 600 dollar system.. 20 dollar game at bargain price or about 10 new games + the console.

why do you even compare console with pc? the 360 connects with damn windows for god sake, their like brother and sister in my room.

Damn, you quoted it before I could delete/edit my post, I wasn't happy with the way I worded it. I think the one thing  PC gamers here fail to realize is that not everyone wants to build a PC, especially when I can get a similar (and sometimes better) experience on a console. I mean for someone who has never built a PC it's a pretty daunting task, finding the right parts, making sure everything is compatible etc. vs plugging in 2 cords and putting a game in a tray. I'm not bashing PCs or anything, but considering there are very few PC games that won't come to consoles these days I can't justify spending all the time/money on PC gaming when my 360 does almost everything a gaming PC can do. Its like the reason the ipod is so much more popular than other MP3 players depite the fact it has the worst sound quality, simplicity.

Isn't it fantastic that they offer standardized PCs that allow for instant plug and play, offer streaming from discs, and have sleak opearting systems? They use them all the time in internet cafes. PCs are NOT restricted to your feeble understanding of what they can or can't do. Not to mention Geek Squad will BUILD your pc for you. ADDITION: We have the most announced exclusive titles. SO TRY AGAIN.

Sorry to sound stupid, but what do you mean by 'flashing'? The way I understand things, to pirate a console game, you burn a copy, and play it on a modded system (which kills the warranty, and can possibly screw over your console to boot). Whereas with a PC, someone can just write up a program to bypass keycodes/security, and doesn't risk destroying the hardware (unless it's actually a virus they made to be a jerk, but that's a different story).

Mind you, I'll admit that I don't really know THAT much about console pirating, I prefer doing things the legal way so I never really researched it.

If you're worried about voiding a warranty illegally WHY MENTION PIRATING IN THE FIRST PLACE? Pirating is illegal PERIOD. Don't try to glamorize PC pirating as something different from console pirating. Oh and I'm sure everyone knows how to bypass security and key codes right? No. The general understanding of the PC gamer is just higher. Thats why its more abundant on PC, NOT because its easier.

Playing something at full settings and getting the same settings on consoles are something entirely different. Don't you DARE try to compare a full setings PC to a console. That logic is doomed from the start. Why? because a full settings pc OBLITERATES a console, and for the most part is in a world of its own. You may just be a horribad shopper. I could build a rig as powerful as the 360 for roughly 600-800 if I skimp on somethings that are pretty common. But I will repeat my self one more time. FACE VALUE IS REDUNDANT DRIBBLE. You have to look at the accumlative costs over a longer period of time.

I could build a rig as powerful as the 360 for roughly 600-800 if I skimp on somethings that are pretty common. But I will repeat my self one more time. FACE VALUE IS REDUNDANT DRIBBLE. You have to look at the accumlative costs over a longer period of time.

in that case the console gives you more game time for your money.

i spent 600 bucks and i wont be able to run crysis, its only been 1yr since i last updated. my console will run for 5 or more years. please help me build a great pc or laptop for 600 bucks.

the problem with full setting and what not is this, when you have a game on console you are running it at the same graphics everyone else on console runs it so it will be a great experience.

now on pc you see a button call high settings, when i click this button my pc lags and it wont give me the same experience unless i fork more money out my pocket and i dont want that. thats the problem with pc.

i had to go out and buy oblivion for 360 having it already for pc because it kept doing hicups on me at full setting. oh, guess what? it looks great on 360 with my hdtv and i can play it sitting in my bed. for pc to do that i have to shell out money or play it uncofortable with a mouse and keyboard.

Beldugo: (Keep in mind I've already acknowledged that PC gaming is more expensive UP FRONT) The 360 Oblivion is the equivalent of a mid-end setting PC that runs about 600 dollars at the time of relase for the 360. Not to mention most PC games give you more play time for your money considering mods and longer shelf lives. However, you keeping using the wrong arguement. Let me give you an analogy just to show you how WRONG your arguement is. Lets say I buy a ritzy apartment in a ritzy area called "Brentwood" (PC). The rent there is 600. Fairly steep for a one person bedroom. Across town they are offering a semi-ok apartment for about 400 dollars rent (console). Ok, I've spent more money on the Brentwood apartment so far. Yes the Brentwood apartment was more expensive RIGHT NOW. I get curve backs on utilities from the area because of the clientale. The average utilities bill for brentwood is about 200 all things considered. Ok, now lets look at that apartment across town. Comcast doesn't give any kickbacks, water is higher because of the area, and electiricity likes to gauge the residents. The average utilities bill is about 500 a month. What is more expensive now? It wasn't the Brentwood apartment, oh no, it was the lacklust apartment that was less expensive up front.

[QUOTE="beldugo"][QUOTE="Vandalvideo"][QUOTE="beldugo"][QUOTE="beldugo"]

thats another thing.. when will people learn that upgrading hardware to play a game is not fun, playing a game without install is not fun. when will people ever learn that the controller originally made for the system is more confortable than a standalone controller or KB + mouse.

when will people learn this? when will people learn that console is not a person that wish, the idea behind a console having sutff depends on the manufatorer.. when will people ever learn that console and pc are a whole different beast? when will people ever learn that?

Vandalvideo

and when will people understand that paying $400+ for a graphic card alone + cost of the rest of the stuff cost more than a console.. and at the same time say console game cost more when you can always find games at bargain price faster than a pc. do some simple math

800 buck pc vs 400 or 600 dollar system.. 20 dollar game at bargain price or about 10 new games + the console.

why do you even compare console with pc? the 360 connects with damn windows for god sake, their like brother and sister in my room.

There are places that offer bargain PC games for cheap prices. Its not like this is a console oddity. The fact of the matter is that while PC gaming is more expensive up front, you can conceivably spend less over a longer period of time. Heck, the price point between PC face value and console gaming is even getting smaller. In some cases as low as 100 dollars.

explain better please... because i spent more than 600 bucks on my pc and i cant even run doom 3 at full setting.

i spent 400 bucks on my 360 and it runs all the games.. i bough ffxi for 15 bucks for 360, 20 for pc.. i bough sonic for 45 bucks on gamefly, lost planet 46, doa xtream 2 45, oblivion 30 and more stuff. please explain why? just like pc you can select how much you want to spend its the same for console. its easier to find a use console game than there is for pc.

and im still gonna say it.. i cant play medievil 2 on my pc its not compatible :( and i want to play it.

take note: i'm not saying pc is bad or anything, just stating some facts too.

You have to look at the accumlative costs over a longer period of time.

want to talk accumalative cost? ok lets say a game for pc cost 50 bucks.

a new game for 360 cost 60. if you wait 1 week or 2 you will most likely see (80% chance) a used copy that cost about 40-45, or you can rent new release from gamefly and buy them at 15% discount (new games). wait a few months and you get the game at 25-35 bucks, while pc you hardly ever see a use game.

you spent 600 bucks on a pc vs a 400 bucks for a 360 or 600 fo a ps3.

of course the pc does more stuff but you are comparing the gaming part of it, not a video editing console... thats why i never compare pc to consoles in the first place.. their not pc ^^.. anyways, so far  console is giving you more bang for your buck for games.  now explain to me how pc is less expensive.

Beldugo: One MAJOR problem. You're assuming that there are no places that allow you to rent, or buy used PC games. This is a WRONG assumption. There are retail chains that offer used PC games, and online distribution places that offer PC games for play-by-basis.

but with console you have the option of actually picking what utility service company you want. in the end thats why the poor people can afford rent in poor neighborhoods not the other way around.

with the knowledge of knowing everyone around you will live the same you will be at ease.. so graphics in high setting really doesn't matter. now knowing someone can live in better area in "brentwood" but with more money will make you look poor and feel bad.

PC gaming is great, I just don't have the money to be an active member of that particular gaming community. I'm a console gamer because I like the fact that when I buy a console, I know that I will be able to play every single game that is released for it that generation.

Irregardless, you spend less on the Brentwood apartment over time. We were talking about which ones is cheaper no? Not which one makes you feel bad.

same for the console so whats your argument about console costing more then? in the end you will pay for on pc because it cost more to upgrade if you want to keep living in that luxury.

PC games are innately cheaper. On a used basis they will be innately cheaper. On a rented basis they will be innately cheaper. PC games are INNATELY cheaper. These PC games have much more replability and diverging content thanks to mods. You can buy less PC games in relation to console games to reach the same ammount of play hours. The ratio is USUALLY 3:1. I'm even being nice and icnluding JRPGs. WoW is a game that costs about 15 dollars a month. Some may say thats price gauging. But lets look at the ammount of play time I've gotten out of wow. 566 hours. Even including JRPGs, you would have to buy about 14 JRPGs to even match that ammount of play time. How much are the average JRPG? About 39.99-59.99. Doesn't that 15 a month look relatively low now? Its about a 400% increase on the ammount of money yu're using to buy the equivalent games for consoles.

I understand what you are saying, but using WoW for evidence doesn't convince me. As I said in an earlier post, I'm not a PC gamer, but I do play WoW. You can go to Wal-Mart and pay less than 300 bucks for a computer that can run WoW perfectly, but that same PC will probably not be able to run Crysis or other high-end PC games on the horizon.

hello, me and my friend log about 200hrs on marvel vs capcom 2. it has a watch in the VMU on dreamcast we cap it at 99:99:99 and we erase the file and its back at 99:99:99.

hello, im playing final fantasy xi on pc and console. hello, to the people that play halo 1 since 2000. hello, capcom vs snk 2.

its all a matter of opinion..hello, jrpg called enchanted arms that has online play and cap lv of 200 with over 80 pets. if i wanted to log 566hrs on a jrpg its up to me. for me mods don't appeal to me because its not official. only game i ever used mod for was final fantasy xi and thats it.

hey can you even find me a jrpg that is good on pc?  can you find me a great fighting game that is as good as capcom vs snk 2? even though mugen and melty blood are cool it dont hold a candle to does console fighter with less stuff in it.

Beldugo: You seemed to TOTALLY ignore one huge prerequisite I stated. "Diverging content". With Marvel v. Capcom you're merely playing the same game over and over with no redeeming diverging content. Its basically replaying the same thing for now reason. With WoW, yuo have diverging, ever changing content for the ENTIRE 566+ hours.

It was merely an example of how PC games offer diverging content for longer periods of time for a cheaper value that would require MUCH more money to pump into consoles. The same is for any generation, no matter HOW much you spend on your PC.

oh hello there vandalvideo.. say hello to the people that say they log 200hrs+ on car simulation games on console. maybe console get too many games worth a purchase that they dont have time to get attach to games like you say pc do? its all up to the person man. its all up to the consumer what price they want to pay for a game.

all i know its that a console cost you 400 bucks and you never have to upgrade and last for 4yrs+, a pc you have to upgrade constantly every 2-3yrs, either processor, graphic cards, ram, hdd etc...

Maybe if you are a consonle gamer who is purchasing many games a month. My posts are based on my personal situation. I'm not an incredibly hardcore gamer anymore. Yes, I play games more than the casual gamer and I mainly play games marketed towards hardcore gamers. But I don't put in as many hours as I did in the past.

So, what you are saying may apply to others, but it doesn't to me. PC gaming is still too expensive for me.

I won't fall for a strawman, I pretty much am the master of that type of arguement. I will repeat my arguement since you FAILED to address it. DIVERGING CONTENT. Whether you're loging that much time into a car sim or not is meaningless. In WoW, those 566+ hours are spent on DIVERGING, NEW content that is EVER changing. In order to get that much UNIQUE content out of a console game you would HAVE TO buy way more games at a higher price. Not to mention YOU DO NOT HAVE TO UPGRADE A PC OVER THE SPAN OF A GENERATION. IF you buy a PC that outperforms consoles in 2006, it will still be doing so at the end of the console generation. Consoles do not evolve. You can, however, tweak PC games to run just as good on lower hardward as higher hardware, and forever have games that look better than consoles without upgrading.

you seem to ignore the people playing halo on xbox 1 and experiencing a new way of killing someone. you seem to ignore all the combo combinations and all the different challenges and way of playing you encounter.

thats all diversity. if mods its what make you tic congratulation, combinations and challenge its what makes me tic. ffxi is an mmorpg and its out for console too. phantasy star for console. i see what your trying to tell me im not ignoring it, its just that i dont agree with it its just an opinion.

Treyofthedead: Whether or not its "more expensive to you" is a moot point. Thats something subejctive that changse from a case by case basis. I'm merely showing that in order to have PC and Consoles on the SAME PAGE consoles require MORE money over time than PCs. This is undeniable fact.

Find someone who knows computers. Are you planning to go to college? If so an electrical engineer major may be a good bet. I say that because my friend is an EE major and he is helping me out this summer when I get ready to build myself a new computer.
