Seriously, that game lacked good music.. there was no country feel to its music.. It could just have good country playing in the background when travelling, no need for radio djs or anything, just good pure countrySenor-DweedleThe game had some good music in the second half of it, when you make it to mexico.
but it wasn't country, it was classical and techno emo stuffNot only would a radio in RDR not make any sense, but the game had probably had the best soundtrack of any game I played this generation.

Nothing wrong with the storyline.GeneralShowzerExcept everything. It was great on paper, but its execution, much like most Rockstar games, was horrid. It was drawn out about 20 hours too long, and there was no connection with Marston's family... something most games, books and movies with good, coherent plots and meaningful developments, would have put at the beginning rather right near the end, when there is barely any time to get to know them.

Maybe Rockstar didn't want you to know them :3
That is one of the worst ideas I've ever heard of. The music was fantastic, not because it had vocals of that "western sound", but that it was atmospheric. Having modern western music, even music from way back, would have ruined it.
Now I know I can't take anything seriously from you. GTA IV and RDR are my favorite games this gen.Totally a radio on a horse!
btw thought RDR was the worst game i ever played

Showing his family wouldn't accomplish anything, it was better this way. Yes, like all Rockstar games it was too long, and many characters that didn't have much importance took up too much time... But that's how it is, you can't have a game that long without the filler.

It's not really the length as much as it is the game just dragging on. All RS games have pacing issues.
Showing his family wouldn't accomplish anything, it was better this way.GeneralShowzerNo, it wasn't. How could I feel for Marston's plight if I never get to see the family he rags on about the whole way through? It would have made much better sense to start the game on his farm, have the government coming down on him, and taking his family hostage. Where the story started was horrible, and did nothing to sell Marston as a character. But then again, Rockstar's story-telling ability has never been good anyways, so I don't know why I even expected better of them.

Sounds extra cheesy and cliche. Glad they avoided it.
Marston is set up as a character in the oppenng act, and is developer later on. And he's a great protagonist.

The way the story started was just fine. You get a real sense of Marston's chivalry and courtesy immediately, while being intrigued as to what he's doing here. Had the game started with government agents kidnapping his son and wife, the game would suddenly feel very cliched, and that mystery man element to Marston that is a staple of many spaghetti Westerns would be diminished. Basically: the story's focus on him makes him much more of a badass.
It's really sad that a COMPLAINT for games today is that they're "too long."princeofshapeirA game that drags on is not enjoyable. Pacing is more important than length, and a well-paced game can be really short and enjoyable (i.e. Mirror's Edge was 5.5 hours on my first sitting, and pretty much was one of the most enjoyable games I've played this gen). After the first "siege" I was expecting the story to be over, considering how it was paced up until that point. But no, it dragged on for another 20 hours over top of that.

Sounds extra cheesy and cliche.GeneralShowzerActually, it sounds like a proper way to tell a story.

I don't see why it's a bad thing if the game drags on if the gameplay is good and the story holds up. That's certainly the case for RDR and GTA IV. I play games so I can get the most out of them, not so I can get some satisfying experience regardless of length and put it on the shelf after beating it. The sheer length and scope of Rockstar games is something I enjoy.

Well, that proves my point. I didn't say he was cold and unflinching. He manages to be a badass and a relatable character simultaneously, much like Niko Bellic.
No radios. Whilst free roaming in Red Dead Redemption I enjoyed that atmospheric music that played in the background from time to time.

Did you play the game with your TV on mute? The music was fantastic;
