I think the biggest problem Vita faces is Windows 8 tablets that will soon be able to play nearly all PC games in a far bigger screen and with various input methods choices

And will run full PC apps too as it seems, making them the absolute handheld gaming and workstation system

What do you think ?

If they allow you to sync or pair up a 360 controller to those tablets, wow that will be awesome. This is another instance of the fact that Sony hasn't been able to get their characters, IPs to be as popular or marketable as Nintendo, Disney have. Nintendo can probably make consoles for another couple of decades so long as they do their best to keep people interested in Mario, Zelda, Pokemon while experimenting and inventing new characters to become popular should any of the big three faulter. Sony hasn't gotten Sackboy, Uncharted, Wipeout or anything to really be 1/5 as popular as some of Nintendo's franchises. If they can do that, for any Playstation hardware, they'll be fine regardless of competition.

That will definatly happen, win8 will natively support 360 pad, so i think will be easy to setup a wireless one even of not officially supported

They would have to be x86 Windows 8 tablets. And we might see a bunch of PC games work on those tablets but not all. If AMD can release an APU that is small enough to put into a tablet and it is quite powerful, then that would be cool.

But that majority of the Windows 8 tablets will be ARM-based. So no cross-CPU compability.

Actually it is confirmed that will do everything a desktop does, in the x86 hardware version

Will run all apps and games, i dont know about DX11 games though

But PC has a infinite game library of games up to DX9 that could play on win8 tablets

So people argue that the Vita is too bulky, but carring around extra controllers and keyboards in your pocket is okay?

Uncharted: Golden Abyss is not on the PS3. Regardless, the Vita has only just been released. No doubt there will be a focus on exclusive games and multiplats that will not be available to tablet owners. At the end of the day, the handhelds will have a library that differentiates them from Windows based tablets.

Given that most of those x86 Win8 Tablet PCs, convertible OR slate, are going to be gimped with Intel graphics (seriously, I haven't found one with a reasonably modern GPU other than the Fujitsu T901, and even there, it's a build-to-order option that'll cost $2,020 if everything else is at entry-level spec, and it's still just an NVIDIA Quadro NVS 4200M), that's extremely unlikely. Don't expect to be playing any sort of GPU-heavy game on a Windows slate, especially not something like Crysis or Metro 2033, without any crazy external GPU kludgery with ExpressCard slots. That, and barring weird things like the Razer Fiona concept, the slates aren't going to have gaming controls built-in. I hope you like carrying around a stand and USB gaming peripherals around all the time. As much as I like Windows tablet computers, they're meant to be workhorse machines for people who need good pen input for note-taking and document markup and artwork and stuff like that. If you're lucky, you'll find the occasional game that works well on them (mostly games that involve drawing things), but they're usually casual fare, not more traditional games. For more traditional stuff, you'll have to stick to really old titles for as long as they keep totally gimping these things with Intel graphics.

Just go try out a Vita and your questions will be answered. It has all the games, graphics, fun, and controls all in one little package that does actually fit in your pocket. A tight fit, but fits none the less. I mean, if your Windows 8 tablet needs other accessories to actually be competitive, which it does, why not just skip it and get a laptop with gaming capability? If it needs a dock or any other accessories, it's now been pushed out of the portable/mobile device argument.

I was actually wondering about this myself. How good could the games actually be on there? Probably better than on the iPad, but I would agree that it likely won't run anything you want even with a dock, mouse, and keyboard.

Any ARM based Win8 tablet won't just be able to run PC windows games, as the hardware will not be compatible. It's possible that software could be programmed specifically with some kind of API in mind as opposed to the processors, and that could mitigate that issue, and DirectX is available on Windows Phone as or right now though I'm sure it's different enough on mobile to require a PC game to be reworked to run well with it. But that doesn't bring up the non-x86 issue though, like PC software being ported to the 360, it can be recompiled and reoptimized for a different computing platform.

The only Win8 tablets that will be running typical PC software will be the x86 based tablets with AMD Bobcat or Intel Atom derived architectures. The AMD Bobcat ones have already proved themselves quite capable using Win7, and Win8 will make them so much better, and really leverage the advantages of Bobcat vs ARM. Google Android has been optimized for Bobcat as well, so that's another win for AMD. Bobcat can run older games from early this generation or before quite decently.

Everything you said is 100% wrong

win8 tablets already run full win8 desktop and use an extrernal keyboard fine

Also even windows7 phones support DX9 (witcher 2, Crysis 2 etc), so why would new tablets not support such games at lower resolution ?

Of course they will easilyl play all the thousand of older PC games too, infinite game lineup in your hands

Tablets = On the go 'office' work duties

3DS / PSV - gaming on the go..

I can at least enjoy playing stuff like World of Goo, Crayon Physics Deluxe, Your Doodles Are Bugged!, Flight Control HD, Galcon Fusion, and Crush the Castle clones like Angry Birds on my HP 2730p...but those last three are iOS ports. There's also the extensive DOS/Windows backlog which won't choke on Intel graphics, much of which you can find on Good Old Games, but those are quite predictably KB+M games, and worse off, a lot of the mouse-driven ones use relative input rather than absolute input, which makes things totally spaz out the instant I put the Wacom pen to the screen.

How come you made no mention of Core i5/i7 in an x86 Windows tablet, as I usually see most of them based on? Even before that, Core 2 Duo and Pentium M were pretty prevalent in Tablet PCs as well. I don't expect to see that change much. That said, I do wish more of the business-class ones would use the newer AMD CPUs, only because the integrated graphics suck a lot less and Intel really needs the competition.

And how many of those 100+ games will actually run on this tablet even with your dock, keyboard, and mouse? They wont run without those because they aren't coded for touch screen controls, so your portability is shot. That part alone means there is a serious point to Vita over any tablet device. If you don't like the games, you don't like them. But Vita has what most consider a very good launch lineup plus it plays over 300 PSP titles. The dual analog sticks breath a whole new life into those. What games are you looking for anyway? Have you tried one? You really need to if you want to know what the big deal is.

Exactly. No tablet is ever going to match any hand held gaming device truly. Maybe for a casual looking for a quick fix, but not for people used to console gaming or portable game systems.

Why did you have games in there tht aren't even on the PC, such as Zelda SS? Quick edit. Muramasa is a Wii exclusive and FF9 was never released for the PC.

Some of those games won't even play on the systems unless they're using considerable hardware within the tablets.

I think the biggest problem Vita faces is Windows 8 tablets that will soon be able to play nearly all PC games in a far bigger screen and with various input methods choices

And will run full PC apps too as it seems, making them the absolute handheld gaming and workstation system

What do you think ?

I can't belive you're such a tool, first the Witcher 2 is better on 360 thread, now this steaming pile of crap. Sweet Zombie Jesus.

Do you believe that W8 tablets will play all games because of Windows 8?

Win8 tablets won't do what you think they will.

loosingENDS

Actually it is confirmed that will do everything a desktop does, in the x86 hardware version

Will run all apps and games, i dont know about DX11 games though

But PC has a infinite game library of games up to DX9 that could play on win8 tablets

Well, let's wait and see those x86 versions. W8 tablets will have more in common with ICS tablets than gaming PCs and have nowhere near the same kind of power.

I advice you to install VirtualBox or VMware and try out Windows 8 Consumer Preview.

[QUOTE="-ArchAngeL-777-"]I was actually wondering about this myself. How good could the games actually be on there? Probably better than on the iPad, but I would agree that it likely won't run anything you want even with a dock, mouse, and keyboard.NamelessPlayer
Google Android has been optimized for Bobcat as well, so that's another win for AMD.PC_Otter

Because the battery life and relative mobility of Sandy Bridge is quite poor for tablets. It's TDW and power usage is too high for true mobile computing in the same sense as the iPad or other ARM based tablets. Ivy Bridge and Trinity at their minimalist, are going for 17W TDW which is incredibly low given their performance, but still insane for a tablet. A practical tablet doesn't have the battery capacity for such operation. An Asus Transformer ****machine could work, but off the dock, you're looking at 2 hours of battery life at best, and with the dock, you're carrying extra bulk that you would otherwise carry with a typical, less expensive and probably more powerful laptop.

My first laptop was a convertible notebook, in only had a single core 1.6 GHz Pentium M, 512 MB DDR, and a 60 GB HDD and it barely managed 2.5 hours. The screen was great though, it used what is probably the same magnetic resonance technology Wacom Tablets use, so it was pressure sensitive and extremely accurate. The computer itself was really slow however, especially with Intel Xtreme Graphics 2 *bleh*

The first AMD Bobcats for the iPad ****tablets was a 9W TDW part, the latest, the Z-01 is about as powerful (but without turbo capability) and sits at 5.9W.
