It's a really bad situation. But it's not just the X1 right now. Both the X1 and PS4 get four or less worthwhile retail exclusives a year. WAY too many games have gone over to the PC. It's really killed it for me. I've gone over to the PC and have access to most games there and I hardly game on my console anymore.
On the 360, at first I thought it was fine that the PC shares a few games with consoles, but now pretty much all of them have gone over, it just looks really bad. It's only going to get worse with DX12 (with the easy porting) and Windows 10. All games will multiplat with the X1, for example the next Fight Night, so why wouldn't EA spend a little extra and a couple of weeks or a month porting it to the PC and dump it on Origin or whatever.
You mean bad for MS, right? I think it's great that all these games are on PC.
My point is, I'm a PC gamer now, but I have very little reason to ever go back. Still have my X1 only because I wouldn't get back much more than half of what I paid for it, but I don't play it. The only game I'm planning on getting is FM6 this year.
So as a previous console gamer, it's kind of ruined consoles for me. Everything else I'll get for the PC now.
I agree. The two consoles more resemble pc from years ago, and pc I think is closer to what ms/sonys vision for consoles ought to become--at least under the consumer eyes. What made consoles so great only really exists in the wiiu. The updates and bugs among x1 and ps4 are unacceptable. They're an inconvenience that is more prominent on consoles vs pc, today. Even if pc has more bugs, the very notion that all this stuff has ventured to consoles in such a matter only makes it stand out more considering their proposed nature.
In defense of, at least in the Xbox One, does it not compare favorably to the recent batch of steam machines, as far as real world output? Not only that, the X1--so I'm told--is one of the best media boxes out their.
The Wii U is the last true console. It has loads of games that aren't on the PC and the potential for experiences that aren't on the PC. To the point where is doesn't matter that the hardware is weaker, because it's different like a console should be. I'm still genuinely considering switching my X1 for a Wii U. They've had more than a year and I'm not happy with what the X1 and PS4 has turned into.
The X1 and PS4, is a PC lite, for those that can't be bothered with a PC. But having a PC and either of these consoles, isn't really worth it. Shelling out that kind of money for a couple of exclusives isn't good enough.
As for the media capability, last time I checked, the sound goes out of sync on DVD playback with the X1 and it took a year for it to get a media player. The first year was boring enough, but you can tell how much of a bare bones state it was in, that even with MSs resources, it took that long for a media player. And the system needs it, because there's not a whole lot else to do on it out side of a couple of games and Netflix/Amazon Instant.
As for the SteamMachines, I think it's a waste of PC hardware to limit it just for gaming when there's no need.
