If you can't afford $30-$60 games. You have bigger things to worry about.

First I've heard of 360 games going to $69.99. Where did you hear this? Sure hope PS3 doesn't follow suit or I'm going to have to wait many months or years before I can buy a new PS3 game. Imagine all the DS games I could buy compared to one PS3 game, ridiculous.

Yeah I don't know. The iPad games may be cheap, but a iPad is $600 or more. That's much more than a DS or PSP and twice as much as a console, 3 times as much as Wii. I think the initial cost of owning an iPad would be too high really. Also, it's not as portable as a DS or PSP and nowhere near as powerful as a console. It doesn't have any strengths that stand out. Not portable enough and not quite as powerful as cheaper consoles.

Besides, you can always get console games used and not have to pay $60+ for them, so that's hardly a problem.

Hmmm, i'd say no. I had an iPhone and found very few games worth my time.

Either buy less games or buy a budget PC.

Ipad costs like what, $600-$800? You can buy a decent gaming PC for that price. You're better off with the PC than anything Apple has to offer in terms of gaming.

Is a reduced quality in games worth the GIGANTIC price of an iPad? Considering they cost way more than a console, I don't understand while you'll sell everything to play Bejeweled 2 on a touch screen instead of a TV screen.

Yeah, I could greatly increase my DS library for $600. That's how I decide if a console or other game is worth it. How many DS games could I get for the price of this one console game. A lot of times I can get many great DS games that offer much more variety than a single console game. But luckily console games get cheap after a while it seems (although Wii doesn't seem to).

iPad starting at $499 for 16 gb non Wi-Fi model.

and the prices go up from there to $599 for 32 gb and $699 for 64 gb

and for Wi-Fi you have to pay $629 for 16 gb, $729 for 32 gb, $829 for 64 gb.

VS

Xbox 360 now $299 for 250 gb or $199 for 4gb

PS3 now $299 for 160 gb

Wii now $199 for Wii Sports, Wii Sports Resort, Wii-mote with MotionPlus and a Nunchuck

DS/DSi/XL now $129.99, $169.99, and $189.99

PSP now $169.99 or $249.99 for a Go

or you could take the money you want to buy an iPad for and get a really good Gaming PC.

That's why you should use Steam, as you get auto-updates/patches, huge sales (games as low as a couple of bucks) and load times would depend specifically on your HDD (chances are they would load faster than console counterparts).

Next, hook PC up to HDTV and play in the living room (I do) using a KB/M or 360 controller.

steam updates your games automatically, you can use a 360 controller for tons of games, and you can use a PC on a wide variety of TV's.

Or get yourself a DS and a few DS titles. That ought to satisfy your gaming crave. An Ipad will not satisfy that gaming crave. You honestly want to spend $500 at the least on something so huge and clumsy?

If this thread is serious, which is highly unlikely, then the PSP would be a far better way to go than a $500 ipad. Basically, the ipad is a handheld, so why compare it to the consoles anyway?

$500-600 would be better spent on a DS Lite plus a bunch of DS games instead of a huge iPad with a bunch of lackluster apps.

Gaming on an iPad?

LOL. Sure, it's fine for casual games, but you'll be hard pressed to find any game with a substantial amount of depth. For $500-600, a gaming PC would give a much better experience.

Don't like keyboard and mouse?
Hook up an Xbox 360 controller.
Sitting uncomfortably? Sit in a better chair or sit on your couch. Also, if sitting is uncomfortable, maybe something is wrong with your butt.
No patches? Use Steam. That's where you'll be buying your games for iPad game prices.
And long load times? PC games tend to load quicker than console games because they're installed on the hard drive, not streamed from a disc.

Why not consider the new 4g iPod Touch? Cheaper than the iPad, and with features the iPad doesn't have. I think you would love it. I know I do. I have the 3g iTouch, and it's great for gaming. I know you'd love the iTouch 4g even more. I want one so bad. They cost $300.00 for the 32 GB version.

Aim for a PC, DSi, 3DS, or PSP if you don't want to spend too much on games. I would highly recommend one of those 4 over an ipad. If you want an ipad, then you are free to get one, but you may be truly disappointed if you purchase an ipad with the intention for gaming.

Or hold out for 3DS. For now it appears to be a promising handheld, and it will probably launch at $200, add in backwards compatibility for DS titles and you'll have a superb platform for gaming, with far more variety than iPad. If not, a DS Lite is cheaper still and has a vast library of DS games and GBA titles. Don't underestimate the power of older titles.

Your gaming experience with an iPad will be nothing like what you had with your Xbox 360. Why would you buy something that costs over twice as much as a console and offers a pretty lackluster library? If you want to play casual games then keep your 360 and buy Xbox Arcade games, there is no need to buy something as crappy as an iPad (I have my reasons other then gaming on why I don't like it) to play casual games if that's your aim. Stick with your 360 or get a DS Lite or PSP. The iPad should never be considerd as a real gaming device, I mean it lacks physical controls for crying out loud.

For the price of an iPad you could get a brand new DS Lite. The DS has a vast library of outstanding titles, and DS Lite can also play Game Boy Advance titles. Used DS and GBA games are generally pretty cheap. I'd love to see how awesome of a DS/GBA library you could build with the cost of the cheapest iPad.

First of all i am well aware of the graphical and control differences, but as this recession drags on, the gap between me being able to buy a new 360 game grows further and further apart.

Now Live is $60.00 a year instead of $50.00, there is also a rumor of games going up to $69.99 now.

It's getting way too expensive for me, i have a wife and 2 kids and these current prices are a killer, thats why i'm thinking of selling off all my games and 360 stuff which will take a nice chunk out of the cost and going to buy an IPAD and just paying between $4.99 to $15.99 per game.

Game prices are just getting out of hand.

First of all i've seen and owned the most recent DSI-XL and alot of the recent titles including the Mario's, Zelda's, Metroids and some RPG's and puzzle games, and they all were alot of fun but the graphics on the IPAD are far more superior then both the DS and PSP, and as for controls, well i can get used to touch screen controls alot easier than i could a keyboard and mouse combo, and not to mention even the bulky DSI-XL felt too small for my hands.

I like the big screen of the IPAD and it has a nice library of games, Grand Theft, Resident Evil, Golf, Football, Baseball, and so on and all with very good to great review scores, now i'm not comparing the quality of games to a console or PC, and as i said i'm not worried about the price because i know all my 360 stuff will just about pay for the IPAD itself and then all i have to get is a few iTUNES cards. I believe it will be cheaper in the long run.

Then go buy an iPad. It seems like you already made up your mind. Not a single person on this thread has recommended you to get one for many reasons but you insist on defending it so go ahead, be my guest and get an iPad. Everyone on this board thinks there are better options but do what you like with your money.

But the PSP-3000 is cheaper than the dsi, has tv-out, and real hardcore games. Futhermore, I don't think the ds offers enough smug for this specific situation. This guy obviously doesn't want to get caught playing with a child's toy.:P

[QUOTE="Slimmin360"][QUOTE="savebattery"]For the price of an iPad you could get a brand new DS Lite. The DS has a vast library of outstanding titles, and DS Lite can also play Game Boy Advance titles. Used DS and GBA games are generally pretty cheap. I'd love to see how awesome of a DS/GBA library you could build with the cost of the cheapest iPad.karasill
First of all i've seen and owned the most recent DSI-XL and alot of the recent titles including the Mario's Zelda's, Metroids and some RPG's and puzzle games, and they all alot of fun but the graphics on the IPAD are far more superior then both the DS and PSP, and as for controls, well i can get used to touch screen controls alot easier than i could a keyboard and mouse combo, and not to mention even the bulky DSI-XL felt too small for my hands. I like the big screen of the IPAD and it has a nice library of games, Grand Theft, Resident Evil, Golf, Football, Baseball, and so and all with very good to great review scores, now i'm not comparing the quality of games to a console or PC, and as i said i'm not worried about the price because i know all my 360 stuff will just about pay for the IPAD itself and then all i have to get is a few iTUNES cards.

Look you have to admit, this is a pretty PC biased forum, not many of them like Apple computers or Apple products to begin with, so it's easy to see why most people advised me against getting it. Another thing you may not have noticed, is that the majority of them all spoke on the whole high cost issue of the IPAD in the first page of replies, even though i already stated in several replies that i have enough 360 stuff to completely pay for the IPAD out right, without any money out of pocket. All i'll have to get is a few APP Store or ITUNES cards and if i get 3 $20.00 cards and spend over a total of $60.00, on the cards that will buy me between 6 to 10 IPAD games depending on what i choose, so in the long run the games will be cheaper and that was what this post was all about in the first place. By the way i didn't make up my mind when i wrote this thread, i've been going back and forth between this site and the apple site and app store checking out video clips of all the IPAD'S games while i've been responding here, and they all look really impressive...and thats what made up my mind for me, great looking games at affordable prices, whether the PC lovers in here want to admit that or not, but video footage and prices don't lie.

Multimedia functions and tv-out.

Also, I have one so that means PSP is better.

Does having a PSP make it better than the DS and vicer versa? NO. The DSi/ DSi XL also has multimedia funtions.

But the PSP-3000 is cheaper than the dsi, has tv-out, and real hardcore games. Futhermore, I don't think the ds offers enough smug for this specific situation. This guy obviously doesn't want to get caught playing with a child's toy.:P

Probably  By hardcore games, what do you mean?

Then like I said go buy an iPad if that's what you want. Though I would advise you to go to a store and try one out for 20 minutes before buying one to see if that's what you truly want. Also, yeah It is a PC biased forum because this is a gaming site and the PC is a much better platform for gaming. Go figure.... I for one dont like the iPad because of Apple's business tactics regarding the iPad. No Flash support of any kind is a real low blow and really degrades your internet experience, closes doors for Flash deveolpers, and even screws over websites that depend on Flash ads for revnue. Anyway back to gaming, why would anyone want cell phone controls when playing a game on an 11 inch screen? That's just beyond me..... Like /EVERYONE/ here is saying, there are better options...

Game prices are just getting out of hand.

if you were going for cost effective, an iPod Touch 8 GB is probably the best solution. The new iPod Touch 4G (based off of the iPhone 4, and as powerful as an iPad) goes for $229. Games on the iPod App Store are between $1 and $10 (cheaper than the iPad's), with most leaning towards the former rather than the latter, even though the two systems share a lot of the same games.

Note that this post will be followed by "lol iPhone", "iPhone controls are terrible!", and "iPhone games are flash games and an iPod is a glorified MP3 player." Nonetheless; my point is the system is quite affordable all things considered and the games are really cheap. That's the most cost effective gaming option IMO.

You know, killin and cussin. The essence of teh hardcorz.:P

I was just kidding. DS is a great system. I just got a killer deal on a used PSP so I went for it. Anyway, TC seems like he's just joking too, so I'll probably leave it at that.

Very rare is that the case. The only case from personal experince is where I managed to find a copy of Age of Empires: Age of Kings DS for $20. Turn based strategy; one of the best games I've ever played.

Nope, it doesn't. Just answering the OP's question... in my opinion, there's no replacement for a home console/PC anyway, not from any handheld whether iPod/iPad/DS or PSP.
