, free games, a top of the line monitor and headset, a guy who instantly upgrades your computer the time your computer isnt top of the line, a leather computer chair (or a cable hooked into your tv), and a personal computer helper, would you game on the PC? I honestly want to know.

Uhh, besides the leather chair, sounds like me... I'm content with my cheap chair. Well, I guess a Sharp 32" TV isn't 'top of the line' it's a bit too big for gaming tbh.

Probably be my system of choice until the next Xbox came out. A gaming PC also needs to be upgraded after awhile and I wouldn't want to get into that (again). That's why I quit the PC as my first system.

I would play games that interest me on it. Which, actually, aren't as numerous as games on consoles.

I'd be grateful to whomever was paying. And yes, I would game on it for as long as it held my interest.

Then that computer would turn into an everyday use computer once games surpassed the level of technology it is capable of. I sure ain't gonna pay so much as a nickel to upgrade that thing.

I game on the PC anyway. But, if the PC given to me is better than the one I got now? I'd hand my current PC over to my kid.

Now, if someone gave me an XBox 360.... Would I game on it? You betcha. Of course I'm going to game on it.

I know, right?

The problem I have with PC gaming is that after a time, I will HAVE to upgrade to keep up. And that's an extra expense I just don't want to place on myself.

Well..it technically doesnt HAVE to be upgraded. If you buy it "correctly" you can keep it for a few years.

Then you might as well be playing a console. Especially considering the next Xbox comes out in roughly two years.

If you don't constantly upgrade a gaming PC you aren't doing it right. It's part of the hobby.

Erm what? 2k-3k would last you 10 years at least. My computer cost me $1,000 including monitor and os a year ago and I don't plan on upgrading for around 3 years. Seriously just go to the pc hardware forum for like 20 minutes and you'll realize how off your statement is.

I wasn't joking. I honestly wanted to know a rough estimate.

Even $1000 is out of my league. The selection on PC isn't exactly catered to my tastes, so I'd have a hard time justifying a commitment of even half that amount at this time. No need to chew kris out ;)

Well if you have a desktop computer already, then it probably wouldn't be too hard to upgrade it to make games playable at around medium-high settings for a couple hundred dollars. But yeah the initial investment for a gaming pc is pretty big.

Cue the lulz: I work off a MacBook :P

And since this rusty baby suffices for the tasks I need it for (System Wars, videos, music, and word processing), I won't be changing it up any time soon.

But how much would that run me the first time? To make a gaming PC that wouldn't require hardware upgrades for that long a period?

I honestly dont know. I myself am not an "expert" per se, but ive known people who can do it with 2-3k.

Erm what? 2k-3k would last you 10 years at least. My computer cost me $1,000 including monitor and os a year ago and I don't plan on upgrading for around 3 years. Seriously just go to the pc hardware forum for like 20 minutes and you'll realize how off your statement is.

There is no way to prove a direct relation between how much you spend and how much it will last. I don't know why people keep thinking this way. A PC regardless of how much you spend could last 2 years or it could last 6 years just as easily. For example people who bought the ATI X series had to change it to play the latest games just like two years it because of the DX and SM version. But years later people jumped on ATI cards because they had a superior DX version but that time it meant nothing unlike the previous time. There is no serious way to know such things.

that sounds awfully complicated. it seems to me like PC gaming is not only expensive but also more of a pain in the @$$

A pc @~1k can last as long as a whole generation of consoles, so long as you buy it after, then when you count the consistent lower cost of the games (new) depending on the amount of games you buy per generation, and how many consoles you own per generation, can easily end up cheaper.

If you're passionate about gaming you already should have a PC to game on since it has such a huge selection of games. You're hurting yourself as a gamer to not own one, and game on it. That's where I am. I don't need anyone to give me a computer, and I certainly don't want anyone building/maintaining my PC for me since that's a huge reason I understand the tech in the first place.

I would play a few games but most of my gaming would be on a console since controllers are better.
