C'mon Charizard. I've always had some respect for you but this thread is your worst. There's one reason and one reason alone to own that smelly fukin turd and that's blu ray and that's literally it. Garbage exclusives, multiplats are a piece of donkey crap, PSN is a joke, and a 15 year old controller. That sounds like a recipe for a craptastic console to me. PS3 would be last on my list of systems to buy. Unfortunately I already own one (but it was the last system I got, so I guess it still makes sense)

You would be equally fine with a 360 if paying for online + added services is not a problem to you. That's pretty much all that stands in the way between PS3 and 360 for me. There's just something about paying for XBL, then paying for Netflix or NHL de plus that just doesn't go well with me. As well as the regular free stuff practically everywhere else like fb, youtube, dailymotion and online gaming of course.

Exclusive wise, I mean if you don't care about Uncharted, Last of Us, God of War, Metal Gear Solid (due to 4) or Little Big Planet, (which would be lol, but possible) you're not really missing much... 360 has the better exclusive FPS and access to a wider range of racers as well.

I'd pretty much say PS3 has the edge on overall access while 360 has a better UI and online (but you pay for it). It's all about the multiplats anyway this year.

Unless Sony's first-party line-up just doesn't interest you.

But Witcher 2, Halo 4, Fable JOurney etc are reasons to buy a xbox 360 instead

I would not even go there if I were you. I've read several articles about Xbox Live accounts being hacked or being sold for money by hackers. There is no such thing as a 100% secure online service. All of them have been hacked at some point, even if it was not as high-profile as Sony's issues with PSN.

If you haven't joined this gen yet, than there's no point in saying that the PS3 is a "for sure" purchase as a new console owner will be exploring exclusive backlogs for each platform that they do get and they share multiplats.

So really, I guess if you don't have a blu-ray player and the exclusive line-up appeals to you, than yes, the PS3 system is the one worth purchasing. But most folks do have a blu-ray player, and will be judging by the exclusives, and I guarantee you a lot of people will want to catch up with the Halo and Gears series and there is no reason for them not to.

Certainly, there will be the online paying portion and some may not be happy with that. But the "third party exclusives" on PS3 are so minor and there are numerous "PC/360" releases like Alan Wake, Metro 2033 and The Witcher 2 worth checking out on the 360 that it makes it a viable option as well.

If you're buying a new system today, there's no reason to not consider any of the three as a potential purchases.

Anyway, the PS3, disaster that it was at the beginning of this generation, has seen a remarkable turnaround, and has become the most viable system this generation. If you are just buying a console now, there is no reason to not get a PS3. There is no reason to not buy a PS3 period- it's the best home console on the market. I'll be honest, it's not best at anything it does- it's bested in online, the controller, and multiplats by Xbox, it's bested in first party and exclusives by Wii- but it's consistently second place in everything, and that makes it the most rounded and best console overall to own.

• Free online with PSN. PSN is not as good as XBL still, not by a long shot; however, it's a great community, gets the job done, and is free.
• Complete multiplat support unlike the Wii. Although most multiplats are still marginally better on Xbox, the difference is negligible enough that the trade off doesn't matter.
• Extensive first party support. Sony's first party is vast enough to have something for everyone. Uncharted, Killzone, Resistance, God of War, inFamous, Ratchet and Clank, Jak and Daxter, Sly Cooper, LittleBigPlanet, ModNation Racers, Warhawk, Twisted Metal, Gran Turismo, there's got to be something there that appeals to you.
• Exclusive third party support. Add to that the fact that most quality third party Japanese support for consoles goes to the PS3, and you've got yourself some great games you wouldn't have access to otherwise. OP does kind of have a point. Even if you ignore ps3's exclusives it still has free online and serviceable multiplats. Sure a few like skyrim are crap ports but most of them are indistinguishable.

Yah, pretty much. Unfortunately I learned the hard way (by spending money on one).

What it does have that's hyped is, often times, subpar versions of experiences found elsewhere.

If you can get passed that fact the games still end up just being 8-10 hour experiences that, no matter what you do, play through the same way each time, so the replay value is pretty bad.

Unless someone lets you borrow a PS3, and you can get the games for $5-$10 each, then I'd suggest staying away.

i agree with many points... the ps3 is a fine console. what i dont agree with is its consistancy for all game genres... my family games and theres not a lot that intrigues them... this is where xbox get its appeal. while ps3 has some nice features, xbox has the library for EVERY gamer... thats a big pro for a lot of families.

I think 360 vs PS3 total library (that means all multiplats, exclusives, PSN/XBLA and collections counted) you could argue it either way.

But it seems there are a lot and lot more PC gamers lately or console gamers building PCs in which I think the PS3 compliments the PC better.

Well I'm thinking of getting one just for a couple of exclusives and fighting games. Afterall I have a PS1 and PS2.

The only reasons I would get a 360 is for Bayonetta, Vanquish, Tales of Vesperia, Lost Oddessy and RDR. Not saying it's a bad system but as of right now, I lack interest (although I do enjoy Halo and Gears as I find them fun but I'm not THAT in love with them).

I hadn't really played my Ps3 in a long long time till I finally got it in my room. Used to keep it in my brothers Room, but I've been using it non stop. Since 2010 I've really just kind of been handheld/retro system gamer but I feel like I've been missing out a bit. Not too much but I do really enjoy what it offers.
