IGN: Next xbox to be 20% more powerful than Wii U. October 2013.

The next Xbox will ship to retailers in late October or early November of next year with six times the processing power of the Xbox 360, sources close to the project have told IGN.

Following initial reports from tech blogs Fudzilla and SemiAccurate, our sources have confirmed that mass production of the system's GPU will indeed begin by the end of 2012 but will not, however, be based on AMD's 7000 series Southern Islands GPU. Instead, the processor will be derived from the 6000 series, which was introduced last year. More specifically, it will be akin to the Radeon HD 6670, which offers support for DirectX11, multidisplay output, 3D and 1080p HD output. The chip currently has a market price of upwards of $79.99.

In real terms, the Xbox 720's raw graphics processing power is expected to be six times that of the Xbox 360 and will yield 20-percent greater performance than Nintendo's forthcoming console, the Wii U.

Honestly, I'm not that impressed. 6 times the processing power of the 360 doesn't seem like a huge jump.

20% difference is pretty slim.

thanks to the success of Wii I was expecting MS and probably even Sony to take similar path for next gen and go with outdated hardware.

The 720. I think he is saying the Wii U is stronger then PS3/360, but not the 720. (Possibly PS4, nothing was announced yet.)

So its coming out a year later and is only going to be 20% more powerful? Well it could be worse. It could be like PS3 come out a year later and run games 20% worse :lol:

But even 20% is enough to consider the Next Xbox more powerful right? So that would be enough for it to become "next-gen" ( assuming the next playstation would be similar to it, like this gen) and leave the Wii-U as something in between the previous gen and the next gen, like the original Wii.

IGN that has no idea about 720 or Wii hardware, is commenting on a random percent that they have no idea if it is correct, based on rumored specs for borh systems that may be 100% different than the actual hardware

That doesn't sound like much....weren't people saying it would be 3x as powerful? If true, I think that's good news.

Anyway, looks like my 6870 should serve me for quite a while longer if they're basing the GPU on the 6670.

Just 20%, eh? If true, then the Wii U probably has some good hardware under the hood. That's not a very big difference.

Translated from IGN to English: sources familiar with reality think next Xbox won't be a huge leap forward, IGN makes up numbers so they can get some pageviews out of it.

It is all based on rumors and comparissons to PC hardware, when consoles are not really PC parts anyway

Then I hope WiiU is on par with current gaming PCs. But everything seems to indicate it's not. Far from it..

Anyone who truly believed that next gen was going to be exactly like this gen (big power jump from Sony and MS while Nintendo remained the weaker) were delusional.
