Wii U will be the next gen PS2 confirmed.charizard1605
You mean the next xbox if this rumor is true.

I meant in terms of being the weakest system, but still powerful enough to keep pace with the other systems and get all the third party multiplats, it's early launch leading it to be the development system of choice for third parties well into the next generation. A Nintendo system properly supported by third parties with all the backing of Nintendo's first party is a formidable idea indeed, and frankly, a wet dream come true. Now all they need to do is shrink the controller and give it some grips The controller is fine, everybody who's held one says it's surprisingly ergonomic. Remember how crazy the Gamecube controller looked, and how good it turned out to be? Really, all they need to do is give us real analog sticks (clickable sticks) instead of sliders.[QUOTE="charizard1605"][QUOTE="eboyishere"]
ps2 was the luckiest console of all time. I dont think anyone will get that lucky for awhile.

I didn't keep in touch with the console wars last gen, so i don't know how each one stacked up in power. But I do remember GTA being under sony for awhile and that was the big thing that pulled people...ESPECIALLY san andreas

I'm confident that Nintendo would be smart enough to redesign the thing if they found significant comfort/usability issues with it during testing.
And if enough users complain, it will definitely get a redesign post-launch.
This is positive news for the home console industry. Keeping software development costs low makes for a healthier industry and games library in terms of risk taking.

You mean the next xbox if this rumor is true.
Nope. The parallels between the PS2 and the Wii U are astounding (if the next Xbox is as powerful/weak as rumors say it is): Wii U is weakest system of the next generation, just like PS2 was the weakest system of its generation Wii U is just powerful enough to keep pace with the other systems of its generation, just like the PS2 Wii U launches earliest, which means it gets third party support and userbase early on, and for a large part of the generation, stays the lead platform of development, like the PS2 (and even the Xbox 360 this generation) Wii U is powerful enough that when developers DO switch to PS4/Xbox 3, it can still support their games with a bit of downgrading, just like the PS2 (and a bit like the 360). Nintendo's primed to have performed the greatest bait and switch in history if these rumors are true. And I'll be laughing my head off.Of course you would deny the facts MS amd AMD = APU based console with $100 based gpu thats 3x faster then current xbox, but the main plus will be more memory you have no idea having a direct x 11 based gpu with more memory can do for options and graphics.... O wait you think the 360 matches Pc 's already.......IGN that has no idea about 720 or Wii hardware, is commenting on a random percent that they have no idea if it is correct, based on rumored specs for borh systems that may be 100% different than the actual hardware

20% ffs thats nothing...unless the wii u is actually pretty powerful, although having 6 times the power of a 6 year old piece of tech doesnt sound all that great tbh

The Playstation 2 was the weakest system of the generation, with a highly complicated architecture to boot. However, it launched a year early, and it led to all third parties flocking to it, leading to major exclusive support (or perceived exclusive support). The Gamecube and the Xbox were powerhouses, and they well outpaced the PS2. However, the PS2 was JUST powerful enough to keep pace and get all the games the Gamecube/Xbox got, which is why it never lost support. Like I said, it feels like the Wii U is primed to do the same thing. The Wii U's only hope from a developers stand point, is that the 720, or at least the PS4 releases out of the box with a touch screen controller. That way, developers will be forced to actually utilize it, rather than just chuck a map/inventory on it.D4W1L4H
I would bet money that this is exactly what happens with the majority of games, unfortunately. I'd love to see some creative use of the touchscreen on the controller, but the reality is that devs are more concerned with making a quick buck much of the time as opposed to innovating in any meaningful or substantial way.

Actually The Dreamcast had a better Gpu allowing it to have features the ps2 coudn't do. And the Emotion engine on the ps2 was complex.
So its weaker then a gpu I bought over 3 years ago lol and to think people where saying the new consoles would be 100 times stronger hardware then top end gpu's today.
6670 GDDR5 can play games better than Xbox 360.6670? That is low end gpu that is not meant for gaming. The 4870 which is rumored to be on the Wii U is better than the 6670.
ZombeGoast
In 5 years(or maybe 2) people will be making threads here asking if PC had as much power as their consoles when they were new and saying that when consoles were new they had better graphics than PC and just for the record my LOW end gaming PC. Anyone who is a console gamer and doesn't know too much about PC but has one I urge you to just buy a Radeon HD 7770 when it is released and it will be far cheaper and superior to any of the next gen consoles.
Seriously though DX11 is really nice and that will be the focus there. The 1080p and 60 fps Wii U has said will be standard will be a nice jump for console fans.

If it is that weak, i will indeed move to PC/PS4 gaming
That would be laughable, worst than WiiU too probably
And worst than Wii for its time of release as well

Those people know nothing obviously. Anyone that has any amount of intelligence can comprehend that it is impossible for consoles to EVER release being equally/more powerful than current PCs.

360 was far more powerfull than 2005 best PC hardware
I am not sure people know what 20% more powerful means. When it comes to pure graphical output, 20% is a pretty big difference. And 6x more than 360? Think about that for a second.
If this thing comes in under $300 that is a pretty big jump. 20% is probably from Dreamcast to 360 quality......That is a significant upgrade.

It was not far more powerful. It was slightly more powerful and it didn't use that power at all. then PC soon caught back up and I don't think a console could ever pass it out again. The tech is just too strong in PCs nowadays and its more affordable than ever

If PC today is 70x more powerfull than 360, then 6x is not that good
I read a rumor that 720 will indeed use AMD 7000 series cores, but an array of 64 of them
That means 20% * 64 = 1280% more powerfull than WiiU actually
AMD 7000 series cores includes Cypress, Cayman and Southern Island types.[QUOTE="Assassin_87"]

The PC assimulated Xenos's unified shader technology.Only 20% Look's like PS4 is going to be most powerful next GEN.

And that will be their downfall (if the leap is significant)
PSP
PS3
PSV
What do these three consoles all have in common? a) power b) poor sales
Well... I guess we can speculate and dream all we want. The PS4 could be 10%-30% or a billion times more, but... I must admit, I think next generation, we're going to really see a small "gap" that only pixel hunters will bother to worry about. I think it will happen because most games will now be multiplat. With WiiU, Xbox 720, and PS4 more likely going to be within a range that's no different from one another, unless talented devs spend more time fixing on those little differences or exclusives show off that power, we'll see really no "difference" between these games. That extra power may be for smoother framerate, shorter load times, possibly better aliasing, or something of that sort. We'll hardly see any game differ on visual effects, polygon counts, and the rest.yoshi_64
Yeah all the console guys should calm down because they won't get that kind of huge leap in graphics again this time around. I just hope the consoles finally do 1080p natively and no more upscaling or anything like that. 1080p was overrated to me before I got my PC, I was so very wrong. Its miles better
Funny how all the console guys said stuff like AA and res didn't matter and counting frames is stupid when the new consoles will bring all these things and they will all change their minds then :P
Naw man 360 is much more than a 20% increase over dreamcast. Xbox 360 was 15X more powerful than the Xbox, and the Xbox was about 3X faster than the dreamcast. Xbox 720 final hardware will be 10X with final hardware in 2013 compared to 360.I am not sure people know what 20% more powerful means.
