I'm joining the master race next week

I'm set to receive a gaming rig from a company I work for and while it's not going to be a top-of-the-line one, it's going to pack a respectable 960 GPU along with previous generation i5 and at least 8 gigs of ram.

I had always been a PC gamer at my core, with Commodore 64, Amiga 500 and 286/386/486 PCs defining my childhood.

I'm looking forward to benefits of free online, very diverse gaming portfolio and I'm looking forward to confronting if Xbox Play Anywhere is up to scratch. I also want to tackle the myth about PCs being so much hassle when it comes to gaming.

I potentially can receive any new PC release for free from distributors which is a super perk.

I want to play most of games save for select FPS or RTS with an Xbone controller. Do you think it's a good idea?

I will still continue playing on Xbone and I'll play whatever games I can't get on Xbone on PC.

I also want to get a WiiU in about 2 months regardless of NX situation. If I could get a NEO for work once it's released I'd be in heaven.

PC isn't the "master race". The most popular PC exclusives can all be played well on low end machines.

an RTS with a controller probably wont be possible on PC. I wouldn't think it has that as an option and if you find a 3rd party application that would do it, mapping it would suck.

I just upgraded my PC, so if you want to add BroknOath to Steam, go ahead. I plan on Play Anywhere gears 4 and maybe Forza Horizon 3.

I always think master race should be reserved for manticores. They truly are the masters at gaming.

If i were you, i'd sell that 960 and get a 1060.

As for controllers, you're free to use anything but try to adapt yourself to M&K for FPS as it will tremendously impact your accuracy for good. i pretty much play all games with my Xbox One controller but when it comes to shooters, nothing can beat M&K.

I still think it would be horrible for a RTS, and I know Halo Wars and a few others have done it, but they have been developed for it. You wont see that in TW or SCII

M&K should only ever be used in multiplayer FPS games. Completely kills immersion in single player ones.

Nice! Are you going to write for a gaming site or so? I guess you don't want to disclose. And yes playing with a controller is absolutely fine. I play most PC games with a controller, too.

I can give you some recommendations but I don't know what kind of games you like, and I'm probably going to make some mistakes because I'm not sure what games come out on PS4/XB1 (Because why would I care? I got a PC.) You can play the superior versions of Witcher 3, Overwatch and Hitman (take Hitman with a grain of salt).

(and soon: Skyrim HD, Deus Ex, Dreadnought, For Honor, Battlefield 1, Squadron 42, Civilization 6.)

Most of these games are small so quick to try and see what they are about.
Definitely check out Planetside 2 before Battlefield 1 along with a little 10 minute youtube video that explains the base mechanics. You might learn to absolutely love it, or absolutely not.

Find classics that you missed. DMC? Populous: The Beginning? gog.com has it all.

Look into the Steam Controller. Surprisingly, I enjoy playing some RTS games with it (Company of Heroes, Dawn of War).

Ever played a game like Condemned with KB+M? It sucks unless you lower your mouse sensitivity.

RTS, Strategy, City Builders, Management Games, Shooters > Mouse & Keyboard

Action games, Racing games, sports games, action-adventure, platformer > Xbone controller

There are some exceptions, like I'm playing Batman: Arkham Asylum now mostly with KB/M and sometimes with controller.

Um, I don't see how toying with analogs with your thumb is "immersive" when aiming a gun. If anything, pointing with your hands via a mouse is closer to reality (if barely). And mouse sensitivity adjustment is a thing... I'm not sure why anyone would choose a controller over a mouse for any FPS ever

I have, and it's perfectly fine to play with M & K.

Play RTS games with a mouse for sure, FPS games with M&K preferably but for games like CoD or BF running a controller won't completely ruin the experience. Start playing games like Total War and if you want that retro goodness Age of Empires II.

Master Race does mean what it user to.

If you want to enjoy total war maxed out you will need something better than your current setup, no offence.

You will enjoy PC gaming a lot. I used to be a console-focused gamer, but now I am moving back to PC gaming as my primary platform.

I will tell you my thoughts on the console industry: its not as good as it once used to be. Remember the good old days when consoles were family friendly, plug and-play devices? Well, not any more. Console games are becoming anti family-friendly since many of them no longer support split-screen multiplayer. Why play games with your family in the same living room when you can play with some random screaming racist trolls over the Internet? Ironically, PC gaming is slowly becoming more supportive of split-screen multiplayer. I remember seeing a few games on Steam which advertise split-screen gaming.

My advice - if you want to play games on TV, use a PC for that as well. You can buy a small PC with Steam installed, and play some console-like PC games with a controller if it makes you feel happy with it.

There are 3 things every PC gamer has to do:

1. Wait for Steam sale.
2. Buy a bunch of shit.
3. Forget what you bought and don't play them.

A staple of the best PC gamers.

Congrats! The initiation can be a bit painful though, recomend buying a soft pillow to sit on in advance. Anyway my rig is getting so old now that I no longer belong to proper MR. I guess I will have to walk around with a tray serving snacks/drinks from now on. Damn.

Bad news is that all exclusives on PC pretty much suck, but you will get great versions of multiplats. And ofc Kb/M for FPS. You should go for the new Doom, wish I could!

I disagree with BF if you're playing online. There is absolutely no auto aim, and it's incredibly frustrating trying to hit anyone while on foot, especially since everything is so small compared to a game like CoD where you're always up close and personal.

Master race, with that kind of rig? Pfffffttt.

It's also tongue and cheek cause PC Master Race was a term used by Yahtzee to describe The Witcher 1's awful mouse and keyboard controls.

I play everything with a keyboard and mouse, FPS, RTS, TPS, Action Adventure, TBS, Driving sims, etc. I don't play sports games and fighters so I can't comment on those but everything else is a M/KB game as far as I'm concerned. In fact the only game I don't exclusively use a mouse and keyboard for is Star Citizen because I prefer to use my Thustmaster Warthog for flying the ships (even though mouse and keyboard is actually easier)

Oh by the way I don't think I've ever heard anyone use adjusting the mouse sensitivity as a 'con' before. There really is no issue with having the ability to fine tune a peripheral to your exact tastes.

So what exactly is the point in building a high end PC? Star Citizen is the first game in almost a decade that might justify that.

To play games at their max capacity? I mean That's like a no brainier. The Idea of the "PC master Race" isn't that you need High End Hardware. It's that PC gaming is better than Console gaming.

Hardware shouldn't matter, but Hardware is one of the reasons why PC gaming is better than Console gaming. The Fact that we don't have to settle for what Console makers like Sony and Microsoft give us IS what PC Master Race is all about.
