Why would they remove all of the character and personality of the forums, and turn to some by-the-numbers solution? One of the good things about System Wars is being able to easily distinguish each individual user thanks to their sig/avy. Having to glance at just a barebones name to make a distinction would become tedious and tiresome.

Even though it can be largely populated by fools at times, the SWs community is the thing I like most about Gamespot. For all the bickering and fighting, we're quite close-knit, like a small village where everyone knows everyone (but contains way more than just the one village idiot). That serves to strenghten the forum as a whole, as people feel connected and commited in a way. I have no idea why Gamespot would choose to go down this boring, lifeless road.

And, like BPoole said, if SWs get merged, then there's absoluely no hope of me staying here/coming back.

So true... all things considered, SW is a great board, the sense of camaraderie here is extraordinary.

And yeah, if PGD and SW got merged, nothing good would come out of it. They're two different boards operating in a completely different manner. I have no idea who even thought of such a thing, makes no sense... but then again, lots of things don't make much sense here recently.

I've been using the new layout and setting sigs/avis etc... The new layout isn't that bad at all... In fact there are some logical additions that make it have a nicer flow to it.  TheEroica

And I agree the format could use some updating, but not a total overhaul. The above just looks unrecognisable. Partly because it looks like every other board out there.

I think that's pretty obvious considering that if it's not directly offending someone, then there is no problem. For example, i should be able to call myself a 'idiot, moron' or say 'shit' 'f*ck', whatever, to express a strong point of view, if such a particular situation in which i'll need that type of vocabulary should arise. 

Obviously with a limit, otherwise i'm just a disruptive foul mouth jackass that deserves a ban. 

But, if we're back to 'absolutely no foul language allowed regardless of context' then we're back to that ridiculously restrictive as hell type a bullshit that no other forum does, because it makes no sense whatsoever. We're not saints, and we're on the internet no less. 

I think moderations really depend on context. If you call me an idiot in the midst of a reasonable and on-topic post, I would not personally moderate that. Others might, but I wouldn't. If your entire post is just "you're an idiot" then it would be moderation worthy.

It's all about context, but it's good practice to avoid insults all together.

How would you suggest we aim for the middle ground then? Everyone's suggestion will be totally different. Everyone has a different idea of what rules should be and how rules ought to be enforced. Hence, moderator discretion has to exist.

It's impossible to run a forum that the community sees as a balance between rules and freedom without moderator discretion existing in some capacity. Call me crazy, dilutional, or whatever, but it's true.

But what we're trying to achieve with the new rules and site is a better and stronger community. If you have any concerns and criticisms for me, I will be glad to hear them.

It certainly can. I've visited many forums (as well has online game servers) that I felt had those kind of issues.

One of the things I hope to achieve as a moderator going forward is better communication with the users of the site. I want to minimize those potential issues as much as possible. So if you have any concerns of criticisms, PM me.
