I agree with 2, you don't gamble as much with hardware issues when you buy console games. Even the best PC in the world can have problems running a game if the platform is incompatible or creates problem, and some problems will go unforseen by the developers. That's something I run into alot with PC games, and it's not allways an easy fix. Usually there is a fix though, if not though an official patch or driver update, some unofficial solutions can fix these problems. It does reduce acessibility though.

5 is true aswell. That is a significant advantage, and no, it is not a weak point aslong as you have freinds. Why would it be a weak point?

I think the rest of your points are largerly irrelevant or flat out wrong.

You did miss out split screen gaming aswell. Local multiplayer is alot easier with consoles, even if it is becoming less common. That would be number 6, or probably more accurate, number 3.

I didn't criticize the entire platform. There are big pluses to PC's that consoles won't be able to compete with like graphics and reliability, for example. I'm just point out the areas where PC's in some cases under perform against consoles.

PC owns in every category except ease of use. You only need to know a little to play a game on a PC (namely basic functions...) but some don't. Namely kids.

Hackers are on all platforms. Community is far better on PC as well as much much more mature (as most are adults). IMO, KB/Mouse + 22 inch PC monitor running Crysis at all high settings is far more enjoyable than sitting 10 ft away from any TV.

Optimization? I'll give ya that one. As console hardware is standard there is nothing for devs to deal with in terms of optimization really other than the initial optimizing. PC they have to account for different pieces of hardware. While most games are very optimized on PC, some aren't. Either way, you don't have to play every game at max to have it look better than the console counterpart. Most of the time far lower than max settings looks far superior to the console counterparts.

1) Hacking - There's a lot less hacking on console games.

2) Optimization - Games are designed to take advantage of the specific hardware, therefore games on consoles are almost guaranteed to run well.

3) Community - Multiplayer games, in my opinion, are more fun on consoles because of their community and feature sets of the service providers.

4) Comfort - Yes I've tried playing pc games on my 42 inch but it's not comfortable at all. Nothing beats a controller/couch combo.

5) Portability - I can take a game to a friends house who has the same console and know the game will run the same.

Please discuss.

The fourth reason is the best one

Bluetooth logitech kb/m beats any controller. yes, i use it on the couch!

1) Hacking
I suck online anyway. Hacking ruined Diablo for me years ago, but I'll take everyones word for it hacking has been greatly reduced.

2) Optimization - I prefer consoles regarding this for the very fact that when you compete online, everyone is on a more even playing field than PC, since everyone is running pretty much the exact same specs because its on a console. The biggest variable is your network speed, which would be the same for PC as well. Summary, you get a more even playing ground regarding Console

3 & 4) Community - for party games with people over your house, console works best by far. Mostly due that consoles are more multiplayer friendly and ready. Plus, people's houses are arranged to accomodate many people around the TV, rather than around the PC.

Also, the PC is used for MANY other things, and sometimes you can't get on or its occupied for other reasons. Not to say that someone wont be watching TV...

5) Portability - non issue IMO.

I like PC for RTS games, FPS games (but I really like Wii-nunchuck if they had more games that use it), and crappy Flash games.
I really prefer console for party games and most other types.
Both together satisfy all types of gaming and would never want just one exclusively.

You're reading into it too much, the point was this person is getting annoyed at people for doing a normal SW activity.

[QUOTE="MrLions"]1.) Um theres as much hackers in console gaming as there is in PC 2.)LRN2BUILD PC 3.) Your community can't make costume maps, mods, and have them as a FREE download so everyone can play 4.)Seeing a giant explosion 10 inches away from the monitor is just satisfying and comfortable 5.)LAN parties....:|

No their isn't not this gen for sure. That doesn't change anything. True, pc's have a much broader community. Chances are, that both can be done, it's more comfy to sit on a nice couch with a 50 inch tv. Yes, because all my friends should have high end pc's for me to play with them.

I'm not sure if I agree on the third issue. On the PC it's easy to choose the people you play with as you can pick any server you want.

You can have a table in front of your couch. I don't see any problem with it. I use my mouse on my knee because it makes life easierand I'm lazy. In truth though I find sitting at a desk more comfortable regardless of what computer system I'm using, including consoles.

Consoles are better than PC for local multiplayer, comfort (I will give you that one), and you don't have compatability problems.

PCs are superior for the wide varaity of games on the PC, superior hardware, cheaper and more fully featured games.

Vandalvideo
Local multiplayer is such a crock. Split screen multiplayer isn't inherently superior to LANs, nor is it widely supported by most modern console games. It is an argument of the past, which is practically dead.

What about single-screen multiplayer such as SSB and sports games? Nothing like ribbing your friend after a sneaky play.

1) I guess the P2P nature of consoles that leads to lag creation by uploading at the same time as you play is better than hacking? 2) Quake 4, Mass Effect, PES2008 PS3 all say hello.... 3) P2P MP? 4) Comfort - Yes Ive tried playing console games on my 42inch but its not comfortable at all. Nothing beats a controller/couch combo 6) Just because you are ignorant of something that doesnt mean that it doesnt exist.

There is less hacking you picking strawmen don't count. Another strawman, most games work fine, you know this. No crap, it's obvious pc has the better community. Oh and, ps3 has alot of dedicated servers. Did you just contradict yourself? I don't get it.

1) Yes, but there are still people who cheat on console games even more so than PC from what I have experinced 2) True but get a decent PC whats your problem then? 3) I think this point is invaild as its easy to meet cool ppl both on consoles and PC but i would say for a casual Console for a Clan/hardcore PC 4) Decent PC chair problems solved ;) Haha 5) bit of a weak point for PC 1) Mods 2) Better visual experince (95% for ppl with poor pcs)

1)The only games i have seen pople cheat was tf2 on xbox, and castle crashers. 2.) Knowledge my friend. Not all people know how to make a great computer, like me for example. 3) Consoles have an alright community, but pc obviously have the superior one. 4) Na, it's alot nice to sit in a couch and watch a 50 inch tv. Weak, maybe but it's true.

You're telling me, that me carrying a disc and my controller to my friends house is the same as carrying your entire system with you?

PC gamers are far to hardcore to accept criticism. The guy who said he carries his entire system around is one of them people. Those were the days when consoles had not online, then they had useless online. LAn battlefield games are still a whole world of awesomeness, can't wait for Arma2 in this respect.

Just as portable. That is false. I can't fit my PC (and monitor if necessary) in my back pack. Too big and heavy. It is also too expensive and important for me to replace if something happens.

1 true but the hackers are now turning to consoles, it may change 2 try running you pc games in 600p and see how well it runs. consoles run games better largely due to low settings and lots of tricks. 3 opinion 4 plug in a x360 pad and you get the same thing except in 1080p @ 60fps

Maybe you should stop using your PC while sitting in a hard kitchen chair at a cramped tiny desk with no knee or mouse room. I am absolutely flabbergasted by the incredibly uncomfortable setups people have for their PCs when I go into various houses.

Get a roomy desk with a big keyboard/mouse tray and get a decent chair with armrests for Gods sake!

I've been a PC gamer for the last 5 years, but I recently sold my video cards (2x gtx 285's) and will spend more money on consoles for my gaming needs. The biggest reason is the fact that PC has NO good exclusive games on the horizon. It breaks my heart lol, but I won't deny it.

Diablo 3? Star Wars: The old republic? Starcraft 2? Guild Wars 2? Command & Conquer 4? Red Orchestra 2? Project Offset? Dirt 2? Storm of War? And then not to mention all the new multiplatform games will also be best on PC, mass effect 2, Max Payne 3, Deus Ex 3, Rage, Splinter Cell 5, Bioshock 2, Crysis 2, etc

No you can't replicate a console with a pc. The pc isn't designed to be integrated with your home entertaintment system. With my xbox controller I can turn on the xbox, buy movies, buy expansion packs, install updates and much more without having to have a keyboard on my coffee table. Even if I were to put my gaming pc in my living room, what would happen if I wanted to type a paper? Haul it back into my bedroom? What about local multiplayer? When the xbox arcade is $200 it is really just waste of time to have your pc in your living room, especially when there are so many 360 exclusives that are not going to the pc.

Please discuss.

My PC specs For the Record:

Asus p6t SE

Intel Core I7 920 OC'ed to 3.2 GHz

2 XFX 4980 XXX Crossfired

4 320 GB disk RAID 10

Fan Cooled with 4 120 MM Case fans and stock fans

My pc is no slauch and I've been building PC's for 5 years now. I don't build them stricly for gaming. a PC is meant to be the biggest multitasker and I build it for that.

I have no real hate towards PC gaming but everything has its cons. I would make a thread about what makes PC better than consoles but I think i'd be a waste of time cause preety much everyon knows that. I just think that consoles have justs a big of role in gaming that PC gamers need to acknowlege.

Zero_epyon

1) ergh hacking occurs just as much as in PC games.

2) True yet the problem is not even nearly as terrible in PC games or else no one would play them. Increasing amount of PC gamers and revenues is a testament to this. PC gamers actually produces and releases their OWN community patches to fix games which leads to point number 3.

3) Utterly subjective issue and false, considering your community cannot produce mods or patches that can be shared with all other gamers for free. Steam > both Xbox live+PSN. :) PC Gamers actually produces their own games that rivals professionally relased games even till now. Hello COUNTERSTRIKE!

4) You said you built pc for 5 years but then you destroy your whole credibility with this. lol. liar liar pants on fire.

5) PC gamers trade portability for maximum custom options for each individual. But that didnt stop LAN parties that PC gamers frequently conduct.

lol the PC CAN be your whole home system if its built for it.

Half your points are negated by the fact that the PC can use both Xbox and PS controllers.

Heck, I think the PC has MORE options for controllers than your consoles can. The other half, can your consoles type a paper?

Nope.

The PC, as least, have that option while being able to play games better.

Exclusives is a subjective issue.

I bet most PC gamers are indifferent to the exclusives the 360 has and vice versa. Yet the fact of the matter is that the PC have far much more exclusives thats not on consoles than your 360 has for year 2009 ALONE.

I dunno about lots of people here, but I don't think most people can afford that for their PC...

3) Community - Multiplayer games, in my opinion, are more fun on consoles because of their community and feature sets of the service providers.

Why have I seen multiple people claim that they have friends who max crisis on a HDTV etc? Do you all know the same person?

I bet most PC gamers are indifferent to the exclusives the 360 has and vice versa. Yet the fact of the matter is that the PC have far much more exclusives thats not on consoles than your 360 has for year 2009 ALONE.

Number of AAE+ PC games for 2009: 11

Number of AAE+ 360 games for 2009: 0

Microsoft did a few cool things glad they made 360 controller usb so you can use it for pc games, original xbox was custom connector crap so couldnt plug it into pc without splicing it. they made the cord longer on 360 controller than the original xbox also. microsoft did a few good things for pc gamers, they just need to get devs to make games exclusives for windows.

Who knows? But I've played on 32 inch HDTV with crysis and world at war maxed out. They both look awesome! Then I gave back the TV since my family uses it, I am going to buy another one soon to connect my PC to!

Just as portable. That is false. I can't fit my PC (and monitor if necessary) in my back pack. Too big and heavy. It is also too expensive and important for me to replace if something happens.

SparkyProtocol

So you console gamers just carry your consoles to X destination then claim that PC users have to carry a monitor and a PC? What happens if they have a laptop? Why don't console gamers have to carry over a t which is larger then a monitor?

1) Hacking - There's a lot less hacking on console games.

Hacking is usually rampant on private servers not so much in Steam.

Subjective, I prefer sitting straight on a chair rather than slouching on a couch.

5) Portability - EDIT: (when I say portability I mean the games not the hardware. not all systems run crysis, for example, the same unless they're built the same way) I can take a game to a friends house who has the same console and know the game will run the same.

I can lend my friend my game and he can return it right away becasue he only needs to install the game and not need the disc in the DVD-ROM. ^^^ That doesn't describe portability :|Zero_epyon

Hacking - There's a lot less hacking on console games.

Granted. Even if you almost never come across them in online PC games, they are out there. They're so rare in the games I've played that it really isn't even a negative, nor something I'd argue as an advantage of consoles.

Optimization - Games are designed to take advantage of the specific hardware, therefore games on consoles are almost guaranteed to run well.

This generation? No. Unless you call 20-30 fps "running well...."

Community - Multiplayer games, in my opinion, are more fun on consoles because of their community and feature sets of the service providers.

I disagree on this..I've always found the online game communies on PC to be so much better. The persistent nature of dedicated servers (a place to which people can become "regulars" and return to easily) promotes community far more than any feature of Xbox Live or PSN. Not to mention..if a game is good, the community will be around for a VERY long time..not die out after a couple years like console games tend to.

Comfort - Yes I've tried playing pc games on my 42 inch but it's not comfortable at all. Nothing beats a controller/couch combo.

You can play your PC with a controller on your couch (I have a wireless 360 controller+adapter), though it's not something I'd be interested in personally. I can't play while laying back anyway..so sitting in my nice, comfy computer chair is just as comfortable as sitting on my couch (and, playing both PC and consoles, I do both.)

Portability - EDIT: (when I say portability I mean the games not the hardware. not all systems run crysis, for example, the same unless they're built the same way) I can take a game to a friends house who has the same console and know the game will run the same.

Granted, and good point.Zero_epyon

Thats his only point that has some merit but it is negated by two things :

1) People hardly choose a game system due to its portability rather mainly for its exclusives and system utilities.

2) PC also comes...surprise! in the form of Gaming Laptops. heh. So for those PC Gamers that feels portability is a priority, they actually have a choice, as usual.

PC WINS AGAIN!....like always.

So your telling me bringing a huge(most gaming laptops are ginormous and cost $1200+) laptop with you is better than bringing a disk? Why are pc fanboys so blind? I'd think building and maintaining a pc would make them a lot more intelligent than your average console user.

Read the original post. He said if he has a console and his friend shares that console he can easily bring the game to his friends house and expect it to play the same. You cannot do that with a pc game if your friend has a lousy pc. Again... Brigining a whole computer rig is not as easy as slipping a disk or case into your pocket.

pc's are just better lol, my friend, his friend dude who brought crysis over and i we'd all play call of duty 4 online on pc sametime/play against each other and again others who join the server and what u said really makes no sense if ur friend shares a console with you then u gotta bring the console to someones house just like the pc. lol
