Infinity Ward vs TreyArch. Who is the king of the FPS genre?

Wow I've never seen more SWs buzzwords in a single post. Congrats.

And the modern shooter is mostly based off of CS/HL anyway, with a dash of Halo on the side (2 weapon carry + regen). And I'd say, Halo was mostly influenced by Quake+HL.

Old Infinity Ward was much better, like when they made CoD2 and CoD4:MW... but that's it. Black Ops was okay, but CoD sucks now. I feel bad, truely bad for people that still buy those games and get hyped over them for all the 'new' features.

Do not challenge the king. COD is number 1 for a reason. It owns every other shooter out there. Black Ops 2 will be the best shooter this year. Guranteed.

I look around. BF, Halo 4, Far Cry 3 etc....they all look like COD wannabe's. But they can't be the best, they can't take it's crown away.

And Black Ops 2 is making several changes to the series.

None of them are kings, oh wait kings of milking and copy n pasting.

Treyarch is better because they at least try to change things, even if they are limeted by the 2 year time frame, and restrictions from Activation.

Very poor choice of options.

Treyarch. Black Ops is my favorite online game all generation, with 200+ hours in it. I hope BO2 gives me the same pleasure.

Valve is the king of the FPS.

Treyarch is a much better studio, but neither is king of the FPS genre.

Bungie is more talented. As is id, EPIC, and a number of other studios.

Anyway, I choose Treyarch, they've done more for the COD series in one game than Infinity Ward has in the whole series.

While I would say naming either the king of the FPS genre is a stretch, I will say that Treyarch gets my vote.   Since WaW, Treyarch has done more with the COD formula and has taken some strides to offer some changes to the core gameplay.  Black Ops II brought alot of good ideas to the table, and it seemed to be willing to offer some changes to COD.  I think the only thing that holds Treyarch back is the cycle that they are given.  I think with three years and unlimited resources, they are the ones who could push COD forward.  Hell, Uprising has some damn good and cool ideas.

Also, while WaW, Black Ops, and Black Ops II  share gameplay mechanics due to being part of the same series, none of them felt like a rehash that gave the player a sense of Deja Vu.  Plus, those game are alot more fun to play than anything in the MW series besides COD4

The problem with Infinity Ward is that while their games are fun, MW2 and MW3 feel like expansion packs to the first MW.   They bring some good ideas to the table, but my first reaction when I played MW3 was a serious case of Deja Vu.   Plus, the multiplayer in MW3 feels horribly unbalanced and the game can reach points where its not fun to play.  

So, my money is on Treyarch.  To be honest, unless IW impresses me I really don't care about their new COD that is coming this year.  I'll just get Battlefield 4 this year and then get Treyarch's new COD next year if its on the PS3.

Neither of them they both make mediocre games with extremely large marketing budgets making them sell well. But just because you have the best selling product doesn't make it the best product out there and in the line of FPS games there are far better games then the call of duties.

I think to call any dev the king of FPS is a bit much. In the FPS genre there can be many different type of FPS, and if made well, lots of different games can come from the genre, they dont necessarily need to be the same or similar. As far as which dev has made the best COD games I would have to say TreyArch they have made 3 good COD games W@W,BO1, and BO2. But the best call of duty to date is still COD4 made by IW, but i sometimes wonder if that was a fluke considering they have also made the worst COD games to date MW2 and MW3. 

The FPS genre has no king and is kind of on life support. Crytek doesn't make good games any more, Valve still hasn't put out Half Life 3, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is dead. Bioshock Infinite got great reviews, but games like that rarely come out. I really don't think the COD gravy train can last much longer. That milk went sour a few years ago.
