Its a pretty average FPS with a huge budget and a lot of hype which is why it scored so well, I'd put it in the Blacksite, Jericho, Frontlines, Section 8, Turok and Quake 4 list as an average okay shooter

Except none of those games scored as well as R2. Because it was an over hyped PS3 exclusive. The same happened with Halo ODSTDid he actually compare the fans to dogs?! wow....Anyway, I thought the reaction was positive. If they werent happy with it, maybe they should spend more time on the next one...wolverine4262
It was justa analogy. Don't be offended.

They listened to what people complained about and fixed the issues.
have they....HAVE THEY?! no really did they fix the problems i wanna know.
I've yet to play Resistance 2, for some reason none of my PS3 owning friends picked it up. I played the first one with my roomate in college a bit, thought it was a cool concept. what was supposedly so bad about the second outing? was it a gameplay thing or was it like the Gears 2 backlash were people just moaned about the plot?

I think it was more about the multiplayer gameplay... Most fans of R:FOM liked it because it was unique and different. For the most part, a lot of people I know IRL didn't like R2 because they felt it tried to be like Halo 3 or COD. R:FOM's multiplayer was fun for me but the R2 beta wasn't as good IMO.

I think it was a design problem, they only cared about more bigger, that was it. Things need to make sense in a video game, it isn't simply about making things bigger for the sake of it.themyth01'Any intelligent fool can make things bigger and more complex... It takes a touch of genius - and a lot of courage to move in the opposite direction.' -Albert Einstein Im a big fan of Insomniac and I loved R2, but something about it felt ugly as others have said - Lacked a soul.

Moving in the opposite direction isn't necessarily the greatest idea for Resistance. Quote doesn't exactly fit in this context.
[QUOTE="Kurdish-Gamer"]It was awesome, much better than RFOM but XBOX fanboys talked bad about it all the time because of Gears 2 and the stupid PS3 fans believed them. I feel very bad for Insomniac , such a great developer.Midnightshade29Yeah they need to listen to the real fans not the lemmings who bought a ps3 to play one game...lol.. seriously the game was fantastic, it was the first ps3 game that I actually beat , and did it without switching to another game...usually i will play a game get about half way through and something new will come out and I play that. R2 came out when a whole bunch of other top notch games came outa and I couldn't put r2 down. It was way better than r1. People just didn't like the lack of weapon wheel, but they are fine with it in halo? Double standards if you ask me. I loved r2, it also came out when cod5, and a few months before kz2... that was their only bad decision, they really had no choice though, MGS4 came out in the summer and kz2 in the spring....
Honestly R2 was one of the worst single player FPS games ive ever played... They tried to make it so much bigger, yet they made it so much linear and generic. In order to kill the huge monster there is only one way up the building, when you get to the top you are right in front of the beast with a RPG at your feet... What to do?
Am I the only one in here that preferred resistance 2 over the first one?Chrome-I did too. I thought the SP was so much better. Much more colourful, diverse, and ineresting environments. And you werent alone all the time like in R1. I preferred R1 MP though, probably because it had a one shot kill option which completely changes the way people play.
Yep Mehsistance 2 was a pretty run of the mill shooter, with very few remarkable features imo.
Insomniac will have to try harder with number 3 for it to even be considered alongside greats such as the Halo and GeoW series.

geow2 is tps (and u2 beats it)
R2 had good secondary fire features a greatmuiltiplayer competitive and online co-op and could support up to 60 players online. Much better online then cod waw. Had good alien guns too. The story just was too.......... american hero. And the wasent enough charater dev
Stevenson bemoaned that negative fan feedback to Resistance 2's design choices was "like your dog turned on you."Wow, this guy's funny :Pgmastersexay
Haven't played R2, but I liked R1 alot. Don't know if I'd buy R2 anytime soon since I'm focusing on my 260 more than my PS3

Not only a metaphore but the implication being that you love your dog. I'm sure my dog is a better person then you.
Resistance 1 sucked, Resistance 2 was far better.
It was like a god like leap from 1 to 2.
Graphics, Sound, Gameplay they all got better, Resistance 1 was like the fps we'd been playing for the past 15 years getting every weapon and having a weapon wheel? i've played a million fps's with that, Its online was uninspired every game decended into grenade matches unless you specifically turned them off.
The story got better it was more fleshed out, the characters actually had personality nathan hale actually talked, scenarios got better too, and it was much harder then 1.
Resistance 1 for god sake had mario 64 graphics some of its bushes and trees were 2d images in a + patern with a coding to turn as you looking at them so it would seem like a 3d object when it wasn't.
I never saw that once in resistance 2.
How any one can prefer 1 over 2 i cannot tell, Its like you people want to play an FPS that used mechanics that were used by every fps since doom, like you wanted a generic main character never speaks story.
Resistance 2 was superior in every way.
They should bury the franchise, or make the third one the last. Nidgetwhy when the first resistance was so good?
R2's campaign was a mix of great and mediocre moments.
Its only saving grace was its multiplayer and co-op.
[QUOTE="Nonstop-Madness"]I wouldn't call R2 a failure, its a good stepping stone to R3. Insomniac will become the first dev to create 3 exclusive PS3 games, they have to pull something out big in R3. NidgetThey already have? Crack in time will be their fourth and R3 is their 5th lol
Only thing I wish Resistance 2 had was co-op that was shared with single player (like the first one had).
This is what I'm talking about. And plus the ending was badass.Resistance 1 sucked, Resistance 2 was far better.

I think it was an good game, but it missed on the unique qualities that made the first game stand out. I missed the weapons variety, it needed more vehicle missions, and coop campaign was not what I expected. Its like they were trying to perfect an XBOX game but forgot to first perfect their own game.
oh man that is too bad...hopefully they just try and use that negative fan reaction as incentive to make 3 a great game (not that 2 wasnt)
I personally enjoyed playing the SP a LOT more in R2 then I did in R1. I mean damn, I didnt even finish the sp in R1 by myself, only did it on CO-OP. Not to mention the MP of R2 absolutely DESTROYED the MP from R1.
The series does nothing for me. The graphics are bland, the characters are bland, the gunplay is not satisfying....Meh, they need to go back to their platforming roots where they shine instead of trying to break into this stupid FPS craze. Give me a great platformer on Sonys console.
I thought the first game delivered on scope. Some of those massive battles were pretty awesome. Reminded me of Halo where you pretty much were able to approach the battle in any way you saw fit. Lots of enemies. Very challenging. Bullets flying everywhere. Intense stuff. The series does nothing for me. What they should do is bring back the R1 features, like the wheel, split health bar, and enemy variety. (I looved the Howlers)
Add lots of new enemies, get rid of Chameleons and Furies.
I for one found many sections of Resistance 1 boring, like Chesire is the base... god...
Make it realistically gorey, not stupid R2 gore.
Keep the action high, but with proper narrative cutscenes.
TELL US ABOUT HALE AND THE CHIMERAAAAA

Imagine R3 with KZ2 engine, Oh my god.I prefered R2 over RFOM in all aspects except for the lack of co-op splitscreen for the main SP campaign. I though the graphics in RFOM were a little PS2 like and though the gameplay was the same I preferred the boss battle in R2 also. Online R2 co-op is very fun also as I never played deathmatch.

i think the biggest complate i have of r2 is that the carbine doesnt have a lot of range, i mean what balistic based gun has bullets that just disapear after 100 yards, sure the bullet sways off target in real life but to just disapear is not cool at all, plus it was gimped compaired to the carbine in R1

The developer's senior community manager James Stevenson tells Videogamer that it was the long-running fan reaction to Resistance 2 that weighed heavily on the team. Stevenson laments that "the overall opinion of it is that it was a failure by fans, that Resistance 2 was a failure, because maybe the expectations were so high for it."
Stevenson bemoaned that negative fan feedback to Resistance 2's design choices was "like your dog turned on you."

I'm not much of a FPS player. I typically avoid the genre except for a couple big key titles. I tried R2 based on the hype for the title and, while I feel likethe bashing is mostly unwarranted...it isn't TOTALLY unwarranted. The game starts off HUGE with some impressive visuals, like the massive tripod-like tank in the opening, and the scene with all the alien ships in the sky not long after. But despite those amazing and incredible and beautiful visuals that were AWESOME, the designed levels that stick you underground or in a spaceship where everysingle room/hallway look identical. The battles and gameplay were decent, but I felt left down because they SHOWED some really incredible potential early on, but then never deliver.
Granted, I never beat the game. But when you open up your sequal with a giant machine that I get to fight, you have to keep up that pacing and graphical awesomeness. You can't just turn around and then put me in caves, etc.
So that is my two cents. I think there is nothing wrong with the gameplay or weapons or graphics, etc. I think that people were disappointed that the game opens on such an epic and intense scale, but then they don't follow up on it. They should really look at Uncharted 2 as the new standard for games that open very intensely, and keep that pace up through the whole game.
