And a possibly more brazen claim from Intel Exec Kirk Skaugen: “desktop is alive and well. It's innovating, whether it's small form factors, all-in-ones, portable all-in-ones or extreme gaming.”

It's sad there's that many Pc gamers and then can even sell over 2 million copies on one Multiplat game. Minecraft is probably the biggest non-MMO game on the PC yet the console versions sold more then the PC. I'm pretty sure at least 500 million or more of those gamers are casual gamer who are playing facebook games, casino, card, board and puzzle games on their PC a couple hours a day. If they were playing exclusive AAA PC games, sales would be close to 30-40 million.

Definitely a bold claim, and an entirely false one too. There is absolutely no way there are that many PC gamers. Facebook is not a gaming platform.

Yeah, that is a totally useless number as if it was anything even approaching that with actual gaming PCs, steam's counts would be MUCH MUCH higher as pretty much any PC gamer who actually has anything approaching good hardware will have steam account, and they are not even at 100 million yet (I believe last number was 75 mill, and that's counting Mac and Linux users too).

probably because the platform is so accessible, and many of its greatest games (like starcraft 1) are super easy to run. plus owning a computer's rather utilitarian.

i think what matters more is the size of the market of 'hardcores', who guy GPUs, CPUs, hard disks and build it themselves - like 82% of star citizen backers. but also many of these folk with money will be buying consoles too.

Do console stats include wii-fit and madden players or just hardcore gamers....if there is even hardcore games left on consoles other than the Souls series....

out of the 50-60 part time kids I've talked to about gaming @ work, probably 10-15 of them are playing modern AAA PC titles on decent gaming rigs. 10-15 are just playing an MMO or two with average laptops or similar low-end PCs. + a couple newcomers that had me build custom gaming systems for them and a couple that just wanted small upgrades to be able to play. then there's the other few middle-aged+ adults that surprised me, also talking about playing Skyrim and other titles on their PC. if that's 35, even out of 60, playing "real" games than that's a lot compared to what the inferiors are claiming.

How fortunate of you. That doesn't mean anything, it's a small selection that cannot be used as a proper representation of how common PC gaming is. For example, I have NEVER met a PC gamer in my country even ONCE! Not a single one. Now I'm not suggesting that my personal bias means anything, just that what you encounter in your daily life means nothing for statistics.

What Intel is suggesting is that more than 3/4 of a billion people, out of 7+ billion (the world population). That is just impossible.

Probably counting everybody who has played a game of mine sweeper and solitaire.

Keep in mind that number can encompass anywhere from a grandma playing Minesweeper on her Windows '95 to the dude with an 15 core Xeon E7 v2 for a CPU playing Crysis maxed out with best mods while watching 4k Snowboarding videos with a second moniter.

All those pc gamers yet the industry waited on new consoles to give us more advanced games.

sounds like you live in a poor-a** country, or maybe one that doesn't allow these type of freedoms. three quarters of one, out of over seven, is not very much if you understand math. and figuring the majority of humans are condensed into smaller, wealthier areas of the planet than it would explain why you don't know any. does it bother you that this many people would be having a better gaming experience than you/those consolites?

also, I'm sure these #s from Intel are based more on sales of software and hardware than how many people log into facebook or similar games. why does it bother consolites so much to hear or see people getting more out of many of their games than xbox or playstation can offer?

I thought it was a fair point. Is it not crazy that there about 3x as many pc gamers as there are console yet consolites dictate the actions of the industry at large as much or even more than pc gamers do?
