No way would I ever buy a DS or a PSP. They are only gaming devices. However, a iPhone and a iPod Touch both have features that people use anyways, and as such create a scenario where you are likely to have one anyways. Now that gaming on iPhone and iPod is revving up... I honestly think the iPhone / iPod is going to enter into the realm of serious gaming software. It's already got some awesome games, and is bound to get more as time goes by.
I'm sure Sony and Nintendo are a bit scared right now.
SquatsAreAwesom
First of all, PSP and DS aren't just gaming devices, the PSP plays music, videos, lets you view photos, and has an internet browser. No, Sony and DS aren't scared. IPhone has a very lackluster library of games and the touch controls make playing conventional FPSs, RPGS, action/adventure etc harder. It is also $200 more.
My touch is great for the free games but I never pay a penny for any of the games and Iphone is to expensive where I could have a real phone and get upgraded parts for my pc
I have an iphone and have tried many of its games just to be disappointed. One visit to the app store and you should see hundreds of games that are very very simplistic or are basically the same game with a different name. For example, an "online" text-based game in which you gather money to buy weapons to battle other players. There are over 20 games that have exactly this same type of gameplay, one for racing, mafia, rock bands, even pets... :(
As was said before, I think the iphone is aimed at the casual crowd. It has technical potential, though, and with time, there can be great games on it.
I wouldn't invest on something that's built to music and brings rip-off titles and parlor games.
iTouch and iPhone's great, but not in games.
When Iphone gets games like Zelda:Phantom Hourglass, New Super Mario Bros, Liberty/Vice City Stories, Patapon, Ratchet and Clank/Jak and Daxter, Pokemon, Advance Wars, then give me a call and I might pick one up. Until then, I enjoy my Ipod Touch for music, pictures, and videos, and my DS and psp for videogames.
Uh what? I never use my iPod Touch for gaming. It's terrible for it.siLVURcross
Same here, i have a total of 3 games, and all of them are time killers, pocket god, trism, and air traffic control. All three of them are good for one thing, killing a good 15 minute train ride or waiting in a long line.
I have a DS Lite already and a Ipod Classic 80GB. If I was to buy a new device, it would either be a PSP 3000 or the new Zune.
[QUOTE="SAGE_OF_FIRE"]Cept the games are = to free flash games while psp and ds are full fledged games. Irick_cb
it has a Brothers in arms game.
And a Cube port. (free)
plus what the hell is wrong with flash games?
Nothing but saying the iphone is >>>>>then the ds :P[QUOTE="Irick_cb"][QUOTE="SAGE_OF_FIRE"]Cept the games are = to free flash games while psp and ds are full fledged games. SAGE_OF_FIRE

It's like saying Nintendo is afraid of Palm.

Zune sucks.
I said it.
It has games.
War now.
Thanks for sharing your opinion, but it did nothing to change my mind. Sad too considering you formed such a convincing argument. :roll:Iphone/ipod touch are just mobile games, something equivalent to browser games(that;s propably why Apple insist on not adding flash support for iphone). Sure they are nice, but it's like with PCgames...DS/PSP would be normal retail games, while iphone would be browser games.
There are also some very serious problems with iphone/ipod touch as gaming devices: they're insanely expensive, they have no physical buttons, the app store is so crowded it's already getting hard for most devs to make by and last..each year Apple introduces a new more powerful hardware and devs are struggling more and more with this target platform segmentation (with DS and PSP it's all compatibile across all hardware versions)
add to this the fact that everyone who bought psp or ds is a gamer, while only small percentage of iphone/ipod touch users are gamers, so the sales numbers are nowhere near comparable
ipod/iphone aren't "real" gaming devices. Would someone seriously consider a ipod or iphone as opposed to ds/psp when it comes to playing games? i assume not. Also, playing games on ipod/iphone drains the battery in like 45mins if playing a hefty app with full 3d graphics and what not...
A few AAA games on the Iphone worth buying.

The Sims 3 8.5 - Simulation

Myst 8.5 - Adventure
"The ****c has never looked -- or played -- better." -IGN
Prey 8.0 - Shooter
Graphics
Great texture work and architecture. Nice weapon animations.- IGN
These games are really fun and I do consider the Iphone/Ipod Touch to be gaming devices. 40 hour RPG's and arguabley the best graphics avalible on a hand held. And Marble Blast just got released on the app store!
All of the above titles are also exclusive with the exception of The Sims 3, and Myst.
Hardly a joke thread. Just head over to IGN's iphone section and see the quality games yourself. The ability to make quality games on it has only been around for a year, and there is already some support coming on board. Riddle me this... what makes the PSP or the DS that much better then an iPod or iPhone, hardware wise? SquatsAreAwesomHmm lets see good games
ove titles are also exclusive with the exception of The Sims 3, and Myst.
madmidnight
new prey version or a port of the one from PC?
The iPhone is great for games.
I seriously love FF CC tower defence (not joking)
I just don't know if anyone will buy it just for games.
Any of the ways, if Apple is included, they are certainty doing very well in the gaming market.
Which is a very good thing.
I love apple.

It's a new Prey. I wouldn't by an Iphone just for games, but im not lieing when i say ive spent more hours with the games than i ever spent with my DS lite.what a load of BS, it did look far better and played far better on PC even in original version (which iphone one is a port off), let alone compared to RealMyst that turned the whole game into real-time 3D and actualy improved on pre-rednered detail level.Myst 8.5 - Adventure

I wonder if the rest of IGN iphone reviews fail this badly at credibility as this one
Iphone's Zenonia is a port. AFAIK from Windows Mobile=

Iphone's Zenonia is a port. AFAIK from Windows Mobile Ok, doesn't deminish the quality. I have myst on both PC and the Iphone.. I'd have to go with the Iphone version for the enjoyment factor. The point of this thread has really become a debate on whether or not the iphone is a gaming device. I believe I have provided evidence that it is. What about the other games I've listed?[QUOTE="madmidnight"]

I belive you have proven your point quite effectively.
Nit picking doesn't really take away from that impact.

.more enjoyment? Really? How? It looks worse, it sounds worse, the controls are more clunky, making notes is a lot harder with iphone (and how can anyone play Myst without making proper notes on paper) and looses a lot of atmosphere.
Och well there are evesome people prefer Wii's Call of Duty over 360 one, so I guess there are bound to be players who prefer Myst on iphone too.

Any cellphone that supports Java games is also a gaming device after all.

Do you see that?
Do you see what you did there?
you answered your own question.
And i can think of reasons it would be a better gameing experiance.
personaly touching the clues and objects would be one up.
the other would be the porability factor.

you aren't touching clues and objects, you're tapping on glass :]
And portability? The one that makes it look worse, sound worse, loose a lot of it's atmosphere, makes it more tyring on eyes thanks to little details and a lot of text to be read and makes taking notes hard as hell?
I can understand how some people might prefer it, doesn';t change the fact it's inferior version. Just because it's inferior by objective criterias doesn't mean that there won't be people who will like it better

Gaming is Objectively a waste of time. Fact.
I don't think _ANYONE_ is claiming the iPhone is superior to the PC.
The "from a technical perspective, it's crap" argument really doesn't fly.
[QUOTE="DealRogers"]it actually costs less than both. only if you sign up for a 2 year contract which if you break has 200 dollar or more termination fee's.Maybe thats why the iPhone costs like $200 more than DS and PSP.

yep am sure both are discussing the possibility to abandon the Handheld market...
Seriously i got an iPhone and while its a great phone with many functions, thats all it is.. I did enjoy a couple of games on it like MGS but surely wont take my PSP's place as the gaminghandheld...
Most of the games for Iphone/touch are also less than $10. You can also get the original Wolfenstein 3D and Carmack says he is going to develop some new games for Iphone as well as get a Quake on there. Iphone/Touch serve the same purpose as PSP/DS but they do it better, portable gaming is suppose to keep you occupied while you are away from home i.e. car trips, plane/train rides, work, school. Iphones and Ipod Touch are way better at the pick up and go, DS and PSP games have become to console like.
Got to agree, I tried Pacman on one and the damn thing frooze.Iphone is a bad phone, never mind a handheld

[QUOTE="adman66"]this thread has as much truth to it as saying tha ms is scared of apple and thier overpriced pos mac computers Irick_cb
Which is exactly why they launched a marketing program to counter Apples slow but effective slam against Vista.
Because Microsoft has no fear of Apple.
Microsoft is the future.
what marketing program? i haven seen any ms marketing in like forever and besides if someone keeps sying you suck and blows everything out of proportion i think you would like to counter there fruitless argument(well there are like 1 or 2 that are true but all others are not) and besides they are actually afraid of all the dumb people who believe anything anyone tells them to belive apple and buy macs. apple is a company that rips off all thier customers, they charge $1-2k for an apple logo on a computer, if i had the knowhow and the time i would make a mac virus just to make 90% of thier computer ads false and then sue them because they said that macs dont freeze or crashPlease Log In to post.
