Is 4K really necessary?

Both Pro and X fail at being 4k consoles, it's just that X is not as much as a failure as Pro.

I've stated numerous times here how I think PS Now is garbage. I'm also not happy about the fact that Sony is forcing us to be pay for online this gen. It's total bullshit and they know it.

Nah, I'm not mad at them but they should have been more forthcoming during the reveal. A lot of crazy fanboys ran with the no compromise bullshit and were claiming the Scorpio would go head to head with GTX 1080Ti PCs. The damage was already done before Phil came and clarified what he actually meant by "no compromises" and "True 4K". Both companies lie a lot but MS is more deceptive with their marketing with the Xbone this gen for some reason. Sony clarified what the PS4 Pro was about less than 3 minutes into their reveal while MS waited 3 days later to clarify what they meant. That's some really shady shit right there.

@quadknight: No but seriously, PUBG's shitty performance has everything to do with the weakness of the XBoneX. It's a CPU intensive game on PC and that's why it will never run well on the XboneX.

I gotta disagree dude. I play it often on my X. It runs absolutely fine. I have seen what people on the S or launch X1 are dealing with. Its night and day difference from playing PUBG on the X. Its a lot of fun. I get "Lag detected" sometimes but I also game over WiFi. My army buddy is hardwired and never gets lag.

I mean its all subjective but imo the game is completely enjoyable on the X1X.

Well if you say it runs well for you I believe you. DF need to do an update on the performance on the 1X. The last update they had was about a month ago and they weren't happy with the performance.

MS now jumped the gun and started shooting for 4K to heal their injured egos and appease butthurt lems’ egos. Such a jump was unnecessary seeing as how it hasn’t helped them at all with changing the narrative this gen, and they are still getting their asses handed to them by the PS4. They would have been much better off waiting till next gen to launch a powerful true Native 4K console when 4K will actually be more mainstream in households.

4K jump wasn't necessary for either MS or Sony. What point are you trying to make?

Is bottled water necessary in a first world, developed country? Outside Flint, MI, nope. Yet people still buy it. GAMING is not necessary. All of this is a luxury, a past time, a hobby.

MS made the Scorpio for the same reasons Sony made the Pro. MONEY. And both have made some money. And you're wrong. By that logic sneaking in the fact that everyone will be paying for MP on PSN+ this gen was really shady. Especially because last December Shawn Layden said his studios do not focus on MP. Its DF. Sometimes what they say is usable sometimes it isn't, depending on the view.

4K looks great and there is a significant difference between 1080p and 4K. However it's much less noticeable going between 2K and 4K. Diminishing returns I guess. With that said, I will always prefer 60fps over a higher resolution, always!!! On PC, I have that option. I could play Witcher 3 at 4k/30fps, but it feels sluggish so I play at 1440p/60fps and it still looks amazing and crisp. My prefer resolution is always gonna be 1440p only!

I understand Sony and Microsoft want to target the 4K market since the TV's went from 1080p to 4K and perhaps they think people would be upset or disappointed if they weren't utilizing their TV's full resolution. At any rate, I feel they are at least a year too early to be targeting 4K. We just barely have reliable hardware that can achieve 4K/60fps but it takes alot more horsepower to reach higher frame rates than it does to simply bump the resolution. Xbox One X doesn't have the hardware to do 4K/60fps, but it does just barely have enough for native 4K/30fps. So unless the games get extreme optimization using a heavy amount of trickery that only 1st party Microsoft games will get, we won't be seeing 4K/60fps.

So in other words, 4K is a personal preference to the gamer, it is an option resolution and as I said, I prefer 1440p/60fps myself.

Framerate > resolution.

I honestly think that native 4k is a waste of resources. Something like 1440p60, or even 1080p60 makes alot more sense to me.

Of COURSE it's absolutely necessary! What could be more necessary? Food? Shelter? Pshh.

Of course 4k is the most important thing in life.

Meh. I don't think those few forum dwellers are a very good depiction of the PC gaming community..

Though, I have wanted a port of some console games myself. Bloodborne being the latest. Recently got Okami on PC, so I wont ask for that anymore. :P And PC being the best and most powerful gaming machine there is, wanting the port for PC is natural. I think people begging for lots of ports to PC are people who wants it all. Even though they already have a better library than any console, they still want what's good from the consoles as well. Because who the hell would get a powerful PC and go on forums and complain about not getting ports of console exclusives? Surely one can't be that stupid.

Few forum dwellers? It's an universal phenomenon, I have friends who do it. Ask any gamer if they've heard of PC gamers begging for ports. People wished that Spiderman would get ported to PC, until the dev shut 'em off. Don't know if it's that common when the roles are reversed though.

Nope.....ProFauxK doesn't need 4k when it's producing the best looking console games ala Horizon and GoW.

I like 4K and it is the future. So I am glad we have consoles that game higher then 1080P now. I like the clarity even when they are not hitting full native 4K on all games. I think the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X both do a very good job for what you pay for the hardware. I am happy!

X has the sharper looking games with better texture filtering but Pro has the games with the best GRAPHICS....
