Is 4K really necessary?

The visual differences are not minor, 30 to 60 fps alone is night and day. Then you have significantly better online that is free, mods, and actual competitive gaming.

I give PC the biggest library, that it can have. Can't play current Nintendo or Sony exclusives on it though, so it's just a matter of opinion which platform has the "best" library. Right now there's nothing on PC I'd rather play than the new GoW on PRO.

And also, gaming is better on a desktop and there is a difference. No need of a large screen for 4k.

Too early for 4k on console. If its only 30fps with low or medium settings then whats the point? I would rather play at 1440p with 60 and high detail or hell, even 1080p. 1080p still looks great just look at uncharted 4 and god of war

I'm somewhere in between myself. I think a steady framerate is important but fine with 30fps, and I don't feel shooting for 4K visuals is always necessary, in lots of cases I wonder what sacrificing resolution can do to enhance other visual effects.

If you had a 4K set/monitor, it's perfectly fine. If you don't have the scratch, there's other means of gaming that don't require you to have it. It's as simple as that.

God of War 4 uses PBR technique like any other modern games.

Staring at a screen with a natively rendered 4k black box is not appealing....

I'll stick to a checkerboard rendered AAAE, 95MC super hit instead...

It'll never happen but I wish that for games next gen, we'd focus on something like half of 4K + CB at most and all other resources somewhere else.

Are 4K televisions and displays nice? Yes, of course; they provide a massive improvement to visual quality.

Is the way 4K being shoved down our throats by Sony and Microsoft nice? No, it's not; they jumped on the tech way too early. I mean they could barely do 1080p right, then it's like "Well, screw you consumer; now we gonna give you 4K and it won't be done right either, and by the time we get around to it 8K will be out"

I can agree. The water in GoW shows that no, there are better things rendered on Xbox LOL GoW is more enjoyable than Sea of Thieves but the water is night and fvcking day. Not to mention, my Pro sounds like a 4 men breathing on respirators trying to jog while playing GoW. Holy shit it scares me. I take a 15 break every hour or so because it really doesn't sound healthy for the console.

The proof for me is in my eyes. I never minded upscaled images last gen or early this gen. 900p was upscaled by my TV to 1080. But my lord, the way it was made out to be a huge thing. LMAO at how an even bigger difference between Pro and X aren't big deals.

Recently one of my heroes, my buddy Nick a retired US Army Ranger was over my apartment in Brooklyn. He plays PUBG with me pretty regularly and simply asked if I would fire up a few matches so he could see the difference on a 4K TV. He does have an X but couldn't afford a 4k TV since he was buying a new home for the family this year. He certainly wasn't all "WHOOOOOOOAAAAA!" but as a chicken dinner winner multiple times and often in that final 10 it comes down to hiding behind a rock or tree and leaning out and sniping. It gets tough to see the opponent. But in 2 matches on my screen the guy claimed he could see so much better than his 1080p. I was happy he had a good time and always love hanging with a brother. As I already said, 4k isn't necessary. GAMING isn't a necessity, so lets drop that bullshit. If you have the funds by all means upgrade.

Incidentally, I wasn't as impressed as Gamespot or IGN with the X1X enhancement of RDR. Now Force Unleashed? That looked so much better than it used to. And this is a really fun thing to be privy to. Thank you MSFT and God bless the United States.
