Is CDPR the most overrated developer?

CDPR made the best rpg in at least 20 years and forever changed the open world genre.. yeah they fucked up big time with CP2077 and it’s buggy release, game is still likely to be one of the best game in recent years once all the problems are ironed out!

Fair, that's just not what these games are about. The credits roll is the end of the story, not the game. That's how most action games are. Nero isn't even the main event, yet you don't get his Devil Bringer mechanic until post game.

It's like judging a massive rpg on the first couple of hrs lol.

Btw, check your options for the camera settings. For the most part I liked the cameras default, but I did pull the distance back. But you can also mess with tracking and attention for a more traditional rotation.

Ubisoft is the most overrated imo.

i was always in the witcher 3 is good but not great camp. for me cyberpunk was cdpr's chance to truly step up and stake their place in the gaming pantheon of top tier devs.

they've hyped this game into god tier status for years, far in excess of recent comedic and contentious releases like f76, no man's sky and andromeda, and what they've finally served up, on console at least, has proven unequivocally they're miles off that top tier. it's a spectacular swing and a miss. it's broken or lacking in so many fundamental areas, i can't see this taking anything other than years to fix.

other top tier devs can squeeze far more juice out of last gen consoles. there's no excusing this. las thing i wanted to see happen, but the proof is in the pudding and no amount of apologies or patches will wipe all that egg off their face. it's a long long way back for them

Game was just overhyped by fanboys, and when it got to shit, the devs are suddenly the most overrated devs? Please.

I don't think so, but they are definitely far from perfect and do get hyped a lot. TBH, I find their world-building to be really good and Cyberpunk follows that same idea... In terms of gameplay, they are far from the best, and it isn't close. TBH, I don't think anyone in Poland has ever driven a car or motorbike, based upon Cyberpunk.

No they're not, R* and ND are way out in front when it comes to being overrated.

@ConanTheStoner: I am more about just playing through the campaign. I don't bother mastering a game unless it is a competitive game I am into. So, once the main content (story/levels/missions) is done, I am usually done with the game. It is the reason why I don't play looter shooters for long. I don't bother grinding for gear and end game stuff. If there is no compelling content, I just move on. So, in the case of DMC5, being able to play with new characters, unlocking new abilities like Devil Bringer isn't enough for me as I am just replaying the same content in a modified way.

That's kind of the point of action games, playing the same thing several times in different ways. Has more in common with Tony Hawk than anything else with the "action" moniker.

Cdpr makes shallow games that have good presentation and solid writing. If immersion n narratives is your jam, they are among the best the medium has to offer.

If you a gameplay cat tho? They are mediocre. Wildly outclassed even as far as action rpg systems are concerned.

They are overrated but not the most overrated my pick goes to Bungie.

Are people like you really that dumb. They made some great games and without the bugs/glitches that will be patched, seems like they made another great game in cyberpunk. Find out what overrated is first before you start a thread about it.

They have not made any game with Good gameplay. The witcher series suck if we judge on gameplay.

They are untalented.

Rockstar exists. They haven't made an interesting game since San Andreas and those games gameplay from that gen weren't good either.

Most overrated are Rockstar and Square these days. (imo)

I played and didn’t much like The Witcher 3. It was slow and boring. I like the principles on which they run there company though.

Personally I love Cyberpunk 2077. I think it’s one of the best games I have ever played. The game is gorgeous. It’s one of the few open world games that’s truly feels alive. I understand why PS4 and Xbox One users are frustrated. A game that hovers around 22fps is rough. But as a next generation console owner, the game is incredible.

Most overrated game of last gen.

They're great with story and characters, and not so great at the actual videogame part. And the videogame part is the most important part of videogames. They get insane amount of praise anyway, hence overrated.

They made an excellent series of RPGs (including one of the best games of the last decade), a couple of great side-games, and Cyberpunk on the PC is pretty fantastic so far.

So...uh, no. They aren't overrated in the slightest.

The witcher 1 - Complete and utter bad. but it was thier first game

Witcher 2 - Improved upon previous but have bad gameplay

Witcher 3 - Most overrated game of last gen, bad combat, bad camera and just another checklist open world game

Cyberpunk - Poor mans Deus Ex with mix of Bad GTA gameplay. TW series has advantage that it had a good story and characters, all missing in Cyberpunk too

all in all. they are bad game developers. only consumer friendly as DRM free. but with whole Cyberpunk fisaco, they ruined the reputation for releasing unfinish product.

I respect CDPR, but every developer has some serious flaws. CDPR isn't an exception.

They had massive success with The Witcher series, grew in size exponentially, and became a corporation-sized studio in a relatively short span of time.

They want to be a Rockstar-like developer (working on one big project at a time), but I believe they're still inexperienced for that.

CP 2077 just proved that.

Its going to be difficult to overcome the poor performance with cyberpunk really it shouldn't have been released in that state.

I could say exactly the same thing about Kojima.

As for contributions, CDPR started with the Witcher series and by Witcher 3 did very well and Cyberpunk seems to be getting criticised mainly for bugs only. And it's CDPs fault as a publisher for forcing it out. CDPR is their development studio.

People act like CDPR can do this without any problems, and hype whatever project they do to heaven. Pretty funny when the game finally comes out and is a turd compared to what the hype was.

Now, I don't believe that CP 2077 came out as a turd. What they did with PS4/Xbox One port is inexcusable, yes.

I pre-ordered the game on PC, and I love it. But even though I respect them as a company, and even though I respect their policy towards DMR, DLC, and all that, I still believe they shouldn't get a free pass for what they did with the console versions.

To be honest, not really and if people want to talk about CP2077/CDPR in SW for a long time, I welcome these threads as it helps keep this place alive. We can always just not click CP2077 threads anyway.

To answer the thread question. They aren't overrated, the gamers make them overrated which is saying something.

Contribution to the industry is something that can be objectively measured, regardless of personal likes.

Hardly. Every game they have released up until now has either been good or great. At least for what they're supposed to offer as western RPGs. Or... card games.

And you won't easily find another developer as consumer-friendy as CDPR considering their DLC practices and the DRM-free GOG platform.

That said, Cyberpunk 2077 has tarnished their excellent image a fair amount. It's all the more perplexing considering their track record (mentioned above). I cannot speak for the game itself as I haven't played it yet, but the base console release was borderline scammy with them claiming the game runs great and not allowing reviewers to actually test it before release.

So I wouldn't rush to call them the most overrated developer yet, but their reputation has definitely suffered.

CDPR knew it run like garbage on ps4 and xbox one so they kept quiet released it anyway to bump up sales pleased this info has came out and questioned them.

I am gonna go with Ubisoft, but with the mess of a release Cyberpunk 2077 sure did ruin their reputation of being of one the best etc.
