[QUOTE="carljohnson3456"]MW2's maps sucked IMO. I didnt even get past level 40 something on the MP cuz I got bored with it. BLOPS had better maps and better campaign IMO. I also loved the originality of Treyarch with the customizable game card pic and what not. Maybe it was just nice to experience a new story in the COD storyline. I thought all but 2 or 3 of the maps were awful. MW2's weren't great but the average level of quality was higher. But it's hardly debatable that both are worse than COD 4 and 2. I never experienced COD2 other than the demo I downloaded off XBL Marketplace after I bought the console... But yeah, COD4 is easily the best in the series, at least, that I've played.[QUOTE="Cherokee_Jack"] MW2 was practically the same game as BLOPS with better level design and without the hamhanded self-indulgent story. It still confuses me that people saw BLOPS as a "return to form" or something. Cherokee_Jack
[QUOTE="carljohnson3456"]Not by a mile. The Wii is worse than COD. mitu123Um, how? It inspired countless titles of trash third party games and Kinect, which has done little to nothing for gaming. Maybe I should have been more specific... the Wii's waggle controls. All in all, Nintendo made the Wii worth the purchase and it's first party titles were second to none as usual. But the Wii has inspired far too many quick, thoughtless, cash in titles from third parties to be worse than COD. What's the worst COD has done? Yearly updates? Like Madden has done for years? That's about it.

MW2 maps are no where near the level of terrible that is MW3's maps... i mean MW2 maps are bad but are more memorable .
Black ops worked more on the glitz and glamor then the problems that plagued MW2(other then OMA)

We've lost Resident Evil. The market has become overwhelmingly flooded with FPSes, most of which are half-assed attempts to simply make a quick buck off of CoDs coattails, multi-player is now almost mandatory in every game. It has helped bring in the masses, which has subsequently caused massive dumbing down of great franchises (Ninja Gaiden 3). CoD is not all responsible for this, but I think a large part of the blame can be laid at its feet.
Ultimately, I think CoD is having a worse impact on gaming than a positive one, but that's just me. Of course I'm extremely irritated Capcom recently came out and said they wanted to get some of the CoD audience, it just confirms what I already believe. Most of my anger is directed at them, but I can't help but feel large resentment towards CoD as well. All in all, I'd rather it not exist. Success is a good thing, but not when it undermines what makes this hobby so great: creativity. I see it being disregarded for the almighty $$$, and CoD is a driving force behind that.
They're average at best.[QUOTE="ShadowsDemon"][QUOTE="sonicare"]
Nope. I liked most of the COD games. Pretty good fps for this gen.

If Average games are this awsome and addictive then please i dont want to play any quality games anymore! gimmie more average games!
I know that you play quality games from looking at your profile (I do too :P ) but CoD really is nothing special. Is it fun, but mindless, brainless fun.Spot on. This sums up my point - TCWe've lost Resident Evil. The strange thing is, MW3 supports local LAN play. If I ever get back to modern warfare FPS multiplayer (the last one was BF2), I'll buy MW3 first before BF3.

Its just that its very sad when a developer that has made a cult generation of games (Resident Evil) that were truely groundbreaking at the time - decides to jump on the commercial bandwagon.
I just hope that whilst we are having this debate that someone, somewhere is conjuring up another cult ****c....
CoD was great for the industry. What's made CoD into one of the worst things is the concept that developers can sell $10 DLC as $59.99 retail games.
It's the same problem with the Madden series. It will only be a matter of time until the rest of the industry catches on and follows suit.
No. Publishers turning games into blockbusters was. It is really annoying when most of your favorite genres haven't saw a major release in near/over a decade (Freespace type game, Fallout/Arcanum type game, Tactics Ogre type game, and Arx Fatalis/Ultima Underworld type game) because a publisher doesn't see them as profitable...
[QUOTE="Ballroompirate"]No it's not, considering it's produced great additional content for titles that would have otherwise been left, or had to have had a retail release for larger expansions.DLC is by far the worst thing that has happened to gaming.
Ravensmash
I agree that DLC is the absolute worst. Great additional content? no in all cases that's for sure and the decision could have been made to NOT leave it out, but since there is money to be made why not make people pay for the game + extras that could have easily been added. It's greed pure and simple. I'd much rather have an awesome sequel that adds these bells and whistles. Oh, and now that there is the possibility that Mass Effect 3 might be releasing some new ending(s) DLC that just makes the DLC trend that much worse:(
COD comes out every f-in year and something fresh and interesting as Prey 2 gets canceled (maybe, still hoping its just a rumor) THAT IS A WORLD I DONT WANT TO LIVE IN and i hope this is gong to change very soon!
but DLC is by far the worst thing ever! DLCs are a piece of s***, and no im not talking about things like the GTA 4 episodes or RDR Undead Nightmare, those are great expansions and i have both as Disc version... im talking about new outfits for freakin fighting games that are released the freaking day the game comes out... W T F? or things like additional maps... guess what THOSE THINGS USED TO BE FREAKIN FREE! ya back in the day where publisheres made much less mones they were freakin free! and now that they swim in freakin money the want to have even more money and cut out parts of games to release them later as DLC.
F*** DLCs and F*** everyone who supports this crap!
No, the worst things to happen are clearly... DLC Paid subscriptions Petitions.BibiMaghoo
DLC ain't a bad thing, getting more content and patches after release is a good thing.
Getting stuff that should have been (or already is) on the disk is the bad thing. Misusing DLC is bad, DLC is not.
CoD is not the problem people, jeez. Its success is. Isn't this obvious?
Look at what has happened to games whose genres are far removed from action and how they've evolved since CoDs popularity exploded. Splinter Cell (stealth into more of a shooter with Conviction), Mass Effect (RPG, two last games dropping much of its role-playing elements to focus more on shooting and action), now Resident Evil....which you can bet will be a shooter all the way through. Two of these developers (Bioware and Capcom have stated CoD's success has played a part in this new direction).
And people still sit there and say this isn't a problem? :? How many more great long-standing franchises will have to be cannibalized by the almighty CoD before people start getting upset? Now it's fine if someone likes it as a game, but I find it disingenuous to hear someone say it hasn't played a detrimental role in the way the industry is heading. It seems so much that makes each game unique in its own genre is being abandoned for more ACTION ACTION ACTION, or is outright ignored to be able to cash-in on it.
If you want more variety, innovation, and risk-taking, CoD is one of the worst things to have happened IMO. As I said, success is good, but not when there's so much of it that everyone drops their own ideas and jumps on the bandwagon. Soon, we're not going to have any games that are not action based. I hope CoD is a fad, I really really hope so, because there is so much more potential in this medium than simply pointing a gun at someone and emptying the clip.
