Some info first

http://www.neoseeker.com/news/8632-crysis-budget-unveiled/

The original Crysis costed€15m ($22m) to make

http://www.gamersbook.com/scene/developer-spotlight/crytek-crysis-2-much-better-than-crysis/

You have to understand that thebudget for Crysis was much lower than for Crysis 2. We could spend much more on Crysis 2 because we expected to sell more through multiplatform development.

For laughs

http://www.pcplay.hr/modules.php?r=23&id=15

Similar games on consoles sell factors of 4-5 more

http://www.tomshardware.com/news/Crysis-Crysis-Trilogy-Cevat-Yerli-FPS-Black-Ops,12080.html

"But if it sells anywhere near what [Call of Duty] Black Ops has, there may be more from Crysis,"

http://n4g.com/news/729346/crysis-2-crytek-wants-to-sell-7-million-copies

-> The game was constantly marketed on TV,Viral marketing and every single gaming site.

March NPD Numbers

1. Pokemon White Version (DS) - Nintendo
2. Pokemon Black Version (DS) - Nintendo
3. Homefront (360, PS3, PC) - THQ
4. Dragon Age II (360, PS3, PC) - Electronic Arts
5. Call of Duty: Black Ops (360, PS3, DS, Wii, PC) - Activision
6. Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars (Wii, 360, DS, PS3, 3DS, PSP, PC) - LucasArts
7. Crysis 2 (360, PS3, PC) - Electronic Arts
8. NBA 2K11 (360, PS3, PS2, Wii, PSP, PC) - Take-Two Interactive
9. MLB 11: The Show (PS3, PSP, PS2) - Sony
10. Fight Night Champion (360, PS3) - Electronic Arts

They expected to sell 7 million copies... They expected to score 94 in metacritic. I believe a lot of things went wrong.

The community is not very active it seens. Giving a quick look in Amazon, it's not top 10 anywhere. It is not on steam's top 20 played games. Their forums are just a trolling ground. Sales generally stop at 8 weeks from launch in consoles. At the end it should sell about maybe 2 million. In the PC it's not a good MP game, does not have mods, it's not a benchmark title... it has little value. I don't think it will have strong legs like the first one.

the PC core users would have bought it in droves right? all games on the PC have 100% sell through.

Console shooters will sell the most in the US the first few weeks, you know this to be true.

Crysis was something different entirely.

Don't expect Crysis 2 to reach the same numbers on PC or on consoles.

Huh? I'm giving you a game that sold similar to Crysis 2 in NA, and that game will struggle to break 1 million in it's lifetime. Crysis is a new IP on consoles as well, and it doesn't mean much on PC.

between the Xbox 360 and PS3 sales of Crysis 2 combined they've already sold like 1 million so that should have already covered the development costs of $22 million and then some

its happened to alot of sellers,

you want to know which 1 ,

well look at test drive unlimited 2 vs the original which came a hit

Crysis was 22 million. Crysis 2 was MUCH MORE. Also it didn't sell a million on consoles. Probably 600.000 - 700.000. If it sold a million it would be higher on the lists don't you think?

Yep, it was the most aggressive marketing I've seen this year, even bigger than Homefront and DAII.

I think we need a "NPD =/= World" statement here. It may not have sold a million in a week, or it may have worldwide--we simply don't know. But you can't say it hasn't sold a million yet...

Well if that is the case then they only needed to sell about 1 million copies to break even, i can safely say it sold way more than that. Anyone can see that, if Crytek were their own publisher then they'd probably have broken even at half a million copies but obviously EA would suck up half of the income from the copies sold and i think i saw a thread saying they sold 3 million but not sure, that was maybe BulletStorm...

I adressed this, I don't like to repeat myself over and over. Bulletstorm launched at the end of February at N.7 just like Crysis 2,and the developers hope to sell 1 million + units.

So... six or more million were sold outside of the US? Yep, who else buys console shooters you say? Apparantly six or more million. But! They obviously must not exist or something who would buy shooters anyways? Oh... Resistance and Killzone sell more in Europe? Oh... that's ... Oh. I see what I'm doing here... sales arguments. Why am I wasting my time with this--I'm out.

We have enough proof to say that the game will be lucky to make all that money dumped into it back. The best they can hope for. It's more than just wishful thinking at this point. They had two studios working on this, hell they bought another studio during production. How much would the budget for this game be?

You're wrong, again.

The debut sales of Killzone 2 in the United States were 323,000 within 48 hours of launch.[56] The game failed to meet expectations in March and April, when it sold 296,000 and 58,000 units respectively; by the beginning of May, the game had sold 677,000 copies in the United States.[57] Killzone 2 debuted at number one in UK sales to become the fourth fastest-selling Sony published title ever.[58] In Japan, the game debuted at number 3, selling 41,000 units.[59] On April 16 2009, Sony announced that sales of Killzone 2 had surpassed one million worldwide.[60]

Yes, you're out of arguments.

Crysis 2 released near the end of March.Stevo_the_gamer
The only game that released as late in the month as Crysis 2 was Lego Star Wars and its on more platforms. This list also doesnt count digital sales which would probably put Crysis 2 above Lego Star wars

I adressed this, I don't like to repeat myself over and over. Bulletstorm launched at the end of February at N.7 just like Crysis 2,and the developers hope to sell 1 million + units.

Thats because Bulletstorm is a budget type game with a full price. Bulletstorm didnt even make the top 10 but was for sale all of March. Crysis 2 was the number 1 game in UK for the first 2 weeks and now its at number 2.

[QUOTE="lawlessx"][QUOTE="GeneralShowzer"] Well Black Ops for example, 14 million units out of 20+ were sold in the USA.GeneralShowzer
why are you trying to take your own opinion/theories and force it on others without having cold hard facts to support them? Wait until we have a worldwide report..then talk about it being a flop sales wise

We have enough proof to say that the game will be lucky to make all that money dumped into it back. The best they can hope for. It's more than just wishful thinking at this point. They had two studios working on this, hell they bought another studio during production. How much would the budget for this game be?

What proof? The NPD which gives no numbers and only covers US retail(Not even all retail at that)?

No one will release actual numbers, except maybe EA when they feel like it. It's not the movie industry. I've provided some pretty solid stuff to make a conclusion. Bloated with budget and not so solid numbers, that's Crysis 2.

Where they have actual links to Sony financial reports and NPD reports, yes.
