the thing is 'what it does' started early last-gen; cars going round a track on rails with no damage.

Yes because you have and showed us all proof that GT 5 (The full game) won't have damage and all cars will drive on rails... Thank you for informing us...

no GT 1, 2, 3, 4 and HD show you.

i was about to say the same. When you consider how long to GT series has been going you would expect them to lead the way with car models and lighting. At least forza tried adding to racing genre instead of just pretty cars going round a track on rails. To vaguely relate back to the actual thread yes the F430 in GT looks alot more shiny than the hummer in Crysis, the difference is you can blow one of them to pieces.

Of course GT5 will be the best looking racing game by a mile, defitnaly much better looking than Forza 2!

But yes in terms of gameplay, car phyics ect. Who knows which will be better............... Ive played ever single GT (but own only no.4), and Forza 2 is the first Forza I have properlly played - and no doubt, its a leap above the samey GT series. I love the community elements of the game, online and car auctioning in particular. Uploading photos is also another nice touch.

But Yes the F430 is very shiny looking, but its simply a shell, with a driver in it, and moving wheels. I mean even Crysis has crash damage... Modular damage ;)

I just feel GT is a very tired series, and although it has the greatest car models, it needs to re-invent itself for the fifth installment and seeing asthough they have already said it will be released with no damage when was the last time the series took a step forward other than graphically?

There is Much to more than pretty Graphics, there IS CONTROL's.. Gran Turismo has been to known to have the most Realistic Car Sim :)

Im not gona buy this game to Crash into other people, hell if i wanted a game just for Crash's .... BURNOUT PARADISE !!!! CASH MODE IF anyone played the OLD BURNOUTS On Xbox ;p ? :D:D:D:D

Im sure Future GTs will Look Better and Will have Full Car damage, Maybe the Developer might add more than bumper damage to it After Gran turismo 5 prologue.

Just Look at the Graphics!!! AMAZING!!! + Realistic control's ... this game is a Must Get for Me At Least!!!

Exactly, winning Best Graphics 2 years in a row is more than enough. I would get worried if nothing passes it.

Crysis is a much better benchmark of graphical performance than GT5. Fully destructable environments? Physics engine? Human beings? Organics? There's nothing technically impressive about rendering a car that looks realistic (it's a simple shape with a semi-reflective surface). It's much harder to make humans look realistic, not only because we're *much* more sensitive to things being "off" about a human model, but because rendering realistic skin, eyes, and hair is just so much harder.

I am far more impressed at Crysis' ability to create realistic looking people, trees, ground, grass, shrubs, and buildings than I am at GT5 for having some nice looking cars and pre-rendered backgrounds.

But the Cars looks Extremely realistic :)

naughtydog360

they do in the target renders (inengine) yeah.

the great part of NOT having a damage model is that you will have less crawling lines in the cars... they can make the car as a whole and not different llose parts that have to be animated. this way the cars can look really good.

i just hope GT5 is not like GT:HD in car behaviour... that's the worst carsim out there. totally unrealstic.

if it looks like this and controls lik forza2, they have a winner.

Methinks they can still make the cars look just as good with damage - it simply takes a huge amount of time to do, so.

Ultimatley its because the makers dont want to see their cars damaged....... So its more cars vs damage. I hear each car has a rendered interior though..... That would be AWESOME. I loved that in PGR3.......

As for GT HD, I havent played it, but I doubt its going to be like GT5...... I mean its a tech demo with GT4 placeholders :P

I hope GT5's physics are as good as Forza's thoug... GT4's were a bit messy here and there.

Technically, Crysis is second to none but Graphically? What you see on the screen despite how technical a game is undernearth..this game has got it beat in that area.

Photo-realism:[Check]

Some people seem to run to Crysis as their savior whenever graphics are mentioned, espcially cows, but especially hermits. I don't understand why cows aren't hyping this game more. It has the graphical prowess to install great confidence in them to the point where they can say 'Crysis is not as pretty'. I usally favor X360 but why deny facts? As a matter of fact, GT5 has to be the most realistic graphically. [No] I'm not joking with you, Gran Turismo has to be my favorite series of any series of games--Gran Turismo 3 is one of my favorite games of all time.

So my thread is not complete rant, I shall *WoW* you with non-naitive res. GT5 screens:

I mean sure, it has crap physics but it also has near perfect depictions of their real life scale models. If they do take in consideration the increased processing power of your beloved 'teh cell' then this game should play better than that awesome game that is Forza 2.

Since they where able to almost match their target render with KZ2, I'm going to go out on a not-so-narrow lemb here and say that this game will look ever better when finished and all the more better looking than Crysis.

You bettr get your perscription to your glasses check. GT5 isn't even close. When I get a PS3, I will get sure to pick GT5 up, but it isn't even close to the graphical quality that is Crysis.

Racing games are bad for graphics comparisons. All driving games has to do is pump the cars full of polygons and it looks great. The textures in that are not so great, and the background is static picture. Crysis has a LOT more going on during gameplay, and they can't afford to pump, for instance, the enemies full of polygons. Everything has to look amazing, which it does.

so GT4 controlled like GT:HD.. wow.... well, back in the days people must have thought it was good. now we know better.

GT4 handled quite well, its physics were simply iffy, compared to Forza!

I havent played GT:HD so I dont know how it handles, but I do know it has placeholder GT4 textures and stuff.

The fact that which has more going on at once is irrelevance to what I'm saying! Crysis is more of a technical marvel than GT5 is but from being closets to what we actually see in reality..GT5 matches or exceeds it:P

Thats not in question or is not needed to be photo-realistic!

This guy can't be serious. Crysis looks way better.

I'm very serious! It's just that I'm not afraid to have a seperate opinion from the general consensus. Maybe GT5 looks more boring than Crysis which I could understand, but I honestly think that it looks alot more realistic..

I see a lot of jaggies and motion blur. No damage system of course the graphics are going to look great. If Forza 2 didn't have one I expect similar type graphics.

PS3_3DO

of course, they get rid of thigns like damage, (and do nowhere near as much stuff as a FPS) they damn well better focus on graphics, crysis does 200 times as much crap as a racing game what with the destuctable everything and driveable everything and free-roam basicly, rahter smart AIS fully customizable gun and all, if it was as simple as having a few semi smart AIs that drive in circles without worrying about a damage system, well, crysis would be photorealistic

Ok come on, can you make it any less apparent that you appose GT5 with a screen name being "Forza_2" It makes you alot less credible when argueing.

Crysis is a much better benchmark of graphical performance than GT5. Fully destructable environments? Physics engine? Human beings? Organics? There's nothing technically impressive about rendering a car that looks realistic (it's a simple shape with a semi-reflective surface). Yeah, Crysis would be a greater technical feat on its own but whether or not GT5 is a simple render is not the point. Despite how technical a game is underneath, ultimately what you see on screen is what you will judge graphics by. In this case I have to say GT5 looks more realistic, cause like you said it is alot harder to render a human and make it look like a human with literally unlimited animations and movements and for that Crysis would be more of a marvel, to look at, ponder and sought after..but GT5 looks more realistic, even with its BITMAP image backgrounds:P

If they made a racer with the Cryengine 2 it would destroy GT5 in the graphics department. This thread is one of the most ignorant threads I have ever read. the two games are designed to showcase completely different types of things. I repeat again, IF there was made a racer with the Cryengine 2 on the PC, it would DESTROY GT5 graphically.

All that has nothing to do with looking realistic...

Lets say Crysis does look the best photo realistically...but the moment those blue aliens are shown is the moment it becomes the furthest from realism. I guess If I played devils advocate, the moment you hit a wall in GT5 is the moment it becomes furthest from realism:lol: but the way it drives, handles, feature rich is not my point!

TC, I could code a room with full DX10 capailities. Only a room. Nothing outside of it. With full DX10 goodness. Nothing to do in this room. But regardless, I could say "This is the most photorealistic thing ever!!! BYE BYE CRYSIS!!!" But that would be pointless. It would just be a room. GT5 focuses on the cars and a linear enviornmental detail. Only the cars can be called "photorealistic." But it would be just like the room. Frankly, I would take a crappy looking game that does everything over a great looking game that allows very little. It is a good thing then that Crysis lets you do everything (almost) AND looks good! ;)

Uh huh.

Couple questions, TC.

Can you dual-weild chickens in your precious GT5?

No?

Maybe shoot trees into splinters, then use the splinters to beat people to death?

I didn't think so.

Perhaps you can throw a bleeding enemy into the ocean and watch him get eaten by a shark?

Not that either, huh?

Well, I mean, can you at least drive around in a completely pre-determined pattern a bunch of times surrounded by flat, blurry textures, no foliage, and really nice looking car models that don't render damage?

Oh. Well that's... super. Good for you.:|

Ok come on, can you make it any less apparent that you appose GT5 with a screen name being "Forza_2" It makes you alot less credible when argueing.

Pro_wrestler

My (non-offensive) username makes me less credible when arguing ?

Theres no point comparing a racing game to a fps like crysis the envirments in a shooter and character models are a lot hard to make cars and tracks.

FYI all my screens are from Forza 2 and PGR4, which just goes to show that GT5 really is just another racer its not really that ahead of anything graphically.

The environements (backgrounds) are pictures not rendered the car models are superb but so are PGR4 and Forza's the textures on the ground and actual rendered environments arent great at all.

Crysis on the other hand is phenomanol to look at.

Project Offset could challenge Crysis.

The Game itself

How about posting some in-game screens:roll:

Crysis doesn't look as good as people make it out to be, I think Killzone 2 beats it out in SOME areas

Cows are total disaster. :D

Man, go and see GT 4 devshots in high resolution, they looks EXACTLY SAME. Yes, you are hyping PS 2 looking game that will come in the end of 2008.

Crysis is unbeatable outdoors though.

If they made a racer with the Cryengine 2 it would destroy GT5 in the graphics department. This thread is one of the most ignorant threads I have ever read. the two games are designed to showcase completely different types of things. I repeat again, IF there was made a racer with the Cryengine 2 on the PC, it would DESTROY GT5 graphically.
organic_machine

So because you failed to accept my opinion and completely miss-comprehended what I said automatically equates to ignorance on my part? Let me repeat in lay language.. I'm not baseing my opinions on "If's", Gameplay or what the game offers as far as content goes. I'm baseing it off of how close it comes to reality! If opinion equals ignorance to you then how do you wake up each day?

Oh. Well that's... super. Good for you.:|

t3hTwinky

Ok, where did I mention chickens:lol: or talk about features in these two games? What the hell?

yyeeaa, ill have what the TC is having.gaming_nerd

You can't have what I'm having until you've hit puberty.

Theres no point comparing a racing game to a fps like crysis the envirments in a shooter and character models are a lot hard to make cars and tracks.the_hsoj

Lets say what your saying is true...Does that automatically disqualify any game from being compared to you graphically? No, it doesn't.
