no game that PC Gamer calls the greatest ever is underrated, and PC Gamer is the reason I created this topic. PC Gamer simply ignores past more innovative games, many with less flaws.

[QUOTE="texasgoldrush"]The Human Revolution necropost........... The new Deus Ex game shows just how flawed and overrated the first game was. Human Revolution shoots better, is far better written, has far better characterization, has a far better atmosphere and moral an dpolitical relevance, and is a tad more balanced. Also the choice and consquence system is far better in HR as well. Is Deus Ex overrated? YES The first game was GREAT IN CONCEPT but MEDIOCRE IN EXECUTION. Yes, its nice to have all the options and freedom, but they are simply not implimented well and not balanced. Add to the horrendous story problems and the one dimensional characterization. It is a highly overrated game. A great model for gameplay concepts, but nothing more. New Vegas and DX:Human Revolution is just far better.

It shoots better because it's not really an rpg when it comes to shooting mechanics. In DX1 you had to at least be trained to be any sort of effective with any weapon, instead. I also disagree that it is better written, and has 'far better characterisation'. While that may be true for Sarif, and possibly Taggart, every other character is pretty dull. We don't get conversations like the lemon-lime one between Gunther and Anna, instead the boss characters in DXHR aren't even named outside the quest screen (oh, I guess there might have been an email at Omega Ranch... bit late). I disagree that DXHR has a better atmosphere. Hengsha might be cool and all, but compared to the Hong Kong canals? Haha, no. Deus Ex 1 was far more relevant, morally and politically. DXHR is about a phenomenon that has yet to hit, DX1 was about actual relevant issues such as terrorism, government control, and class struggle (or rather, lack of it). DX1 also paid significant attention to bioweapons, which is more relevant than as-of-yet fictional biochips. I personally think that DX1 was more balanced. I mean, you couldn't get a silenced sniper rifle right off the bat in DX (another pro: DX1 didn't have dumb preorder DLC), and the stealth pistol had disadvantages vs the normal pistol, instead of the one in DXHR which allows you to mount a silencer, laser, and an 'armour-pericing system' which looks a lot like a compensator but whatever. Pistol ammo in DXHR also became exceedingly rare in the second half of the game, too. I felt choice and consequence had a larger print on DX1. Jaime Reyes? Maggie Chow? Jock? What made it even better is that you didn't know which choices you made were going to have a consequence. It's pretty obvious in DXHR that if you let the hostages die, then, well, you're going to get reprimanded. Other then that, Malik? But it happens so late in the game. I also can't remodel offices in HR like i can in DX, or get funny comments from people when i throw potplants at them. I get the feeling you're doing this just to be a contrarian
