It's hard to tell since we got to a point when basically every game looks great. In my opinion games like Doom, Uncharted 4, The Witcher 3, SW Battlefront, Battlefield 1, etc are among the most impressive.
I agree. I'll add to that Ryse, AC: Unity, Syndicate, Far Cry Primal and Rise of the Tomb Raider also look fantastic !

True, and there are sooo much more. At this point, even the games that are not praised by their graphics look good! I recently got Just Cause 3 in a PSN sale, and damn, the vistas, draw distance, amount of things going on, etc are simply incredible....and it's just an 'average' looking game by current standards.
Witcher 3, Gears 4, BF1. All more impressive than Doom imo.
Nope.
How is possible to say nope when Witcher 3 provides this kind of graphical fidelity when its an open world and Doom a linear , small areas arcade shooter ? You talking texture wise or ?

It's nice to be a gamer these days :)
Yeah, sometimes it feels developers have to do their best to make a game look ugly these days.
Even the Unity engine, which is pretty simple by design, can deliver some amazing results.
I'm thinking Cities: Skylines, Ori and The Blind Forest and Aragami.
People say BF1, but I don't agree. DOOM looks better.
If only because of all the weird ass bugs that happens in BF1. Destroyed planes are just stuck in air, people get stuck in walls and ceilings after being killed by grenades, and shit like that. Also, the art style of DOOM is better.
I really don't see why the witcher 3 people say its graphic king. All the graphics look the same and blurry. The water looks terrible especially when you jump in and the water ripples. It looks good but its too samey.

Maybe on console, but on pc it looks just amazing.
Also no scale should not be a factor. We're talking best graphics. Too bad TW3 shot for open-world.
poorly ? My old 7850 a GPU slightly weaker than ps4 gpu and officially below the min requirements was able to play the game at a steady 30fps at a mix of medium/high settings including HBAO at 1080p .
Open world or not Witcher 3 is up there with the best and if you take into consideration the scale of the game and how well it runs it makes it even more impressive
@adamosmaki: Talking about GTA V on last gen consoles.
I'm aware Witcher 3 runs well on lower-end hardware. I used to run it on my 7850.
My bad. And yeah GTA V on last gen consoles is not a pretty sight ( though you gotta give rockstar credit for even making it possible to be playable on 360/ps3 )
@Wasdie: GTA V runs poorly on last gen consoles. What kinda of PC you got to have TW3 run at max settings in 1440p at 100fps? My 1080's cannot do that.
My GTX 1080 is doing that fine. It's not that difficult to achieve. It'll dip to the 80s from time to time, but it's a pretty high framerate.
Hey guys I havent tried the new Battlefiend yet but from what I played of DOOM I think its one of the best looking games I have ever played after Crysis 3. What is the current graphics king?
ive played doom, but still think battlefront has the crown, i must play more bf1 to compare
@Wasdie: Not sure I believe that. A pair of 980's I had before struggled to maintain 60fps at 1440p and would frequently dip into the 50's. They were SC with EVGA. Faster than a single 1080.
This guy cannot even maintain 60fps with a single 1080.
Graphics King? Hardly, however, I gotta say, damn impressive visually. I was so relieved too when I finally played it. I was worried the gameplay footage we saw at its E3 reveal wasn't going to realistically portray its XB1 console performance, at very least suspecting it'd be left behind as a port, but damn, I was rather surprised how that so wasn't the case. Damnit, I wanna see more. Hopefully they're already getting started on releasing more Doom. I think it was a waste to commit to do MP expansion when honestly I'd of paid for a SP season pass without question.
Star Citizen looks like ass. It's free right now and even on my rig at Very High settings 1080p is looks like garbage. Hell, there doesn't even seem to be an AA solution implemented so I had to downsample from 4k to 1080p to make it look better. It still didn't change the game from looking mediocre though and actually for some crappy reason locked my framerate at 30FPS. I've had to Google for a solution to uncap this oh-so-amazing PC exclusive from it's 30FPS cap. What a shit show.
DOOM has some insane looking effects, and the character models are very detailed.
Some people need to get their eyes checked, or play these games on a proper PC. DOOM and The Witcher 3 look amazing.
Battlefield 1 is graphics king though.
That screenshot doesn't look impressive at all and this is coming from someone who's playing Doom in 4k at max settings at a locked 60FPS. I'll admit that the PC version is amazingly optimized, at max settings 1080p I get around 120 to 140FPS on average.
My main problem is that the textures look kind of blurry/low-res, this is even more evident in your screenshot, aren't you playing on max settings?

Same. only option I cant max out is the advanced screen scaling what ever its called in advanced graphics. With everything at maxed that goes over the 8gb vram.

Refer to my video. The guy wasn't even averaging 60fps with a single 1080. I barely was with two 980's. You guys sure as hell ain't getting 80-100fps at 1440p with a single 1080.

Have you played Uncharted 4, MGS V and The Witcher 3?

Really? I played the heck outta that game 3 years ago on the PS3 and it didn't have a single hiccup. The mp was poor to start with though but other than that, no problems.

Watch the frame rate regularly drop to the low 20's on PS3. Worst version.

I don't get it, what has a youtube video got to do with what I experienced myself for 2 years?
My PS3 broke down last year, if I posted a vid of it failing to start up, does that equate to every PS3 failing to start up?
I am using reshade on top of it, but I might turn the sharpening down a bit.

Nothing beats battlefield at the moment when it comes to pure visual fidelity
Definitely. This game looks insane.
I thought yours looked a little different. Mine is just the default without any reshades or anything on ultra. Had to turn down AA, though for maximum frames. Was dipping below 60 at times, and I couldn't have that.
Personally, I find it is hard to say which game is "the best looking game" because of many factors. One of the largest for me is based on the the complexity of the game, the game size and physics.
I mean, if you take Battlefield 4 for example. Let's go with the online in this scenario. We can use the large Golmud map as an example. You have this large, wide open (non-linear) map that allows you to go anywhere and climb all terrain. The map has about 75% destruction ability for trees, shrubs, building. Then we add 64 players with full weapon customization, independent of each player. You have jets, tanks, motorcyles, humvee's, jeeps and helicopters moving about. There are huge backdrops (though the players can't reach those huge backdrops for obvious reasons). So you have all these environmental events going on, server calculations, pushing the destruction to every player's console (it remembers each players different destruction). Then you add the textures and assets in, color pallet, bullet drop, explosions, smoke.
Then you have a looker, like The Order. The game is a cinematic charm. Facial animation during cutscenes is amazing. The art work is beautiful. The attention to detail in the characters clothing is second to none. Each weapon, on the screen during gameplay, his heavily designed and unique. You have a voice cast from Hollywood. But besides exploding red barrels, there is no game destruction. There is only one controllable character on the screen, there is never more than say 10 AI on the screen at once. The game is extremely linear, as in there is no veering off the path. There are no vehicles, no server calculations, no physics outside of the character animations.
Does The Order look better than Battlefield 4? Of course. But there is a reason for that. Multiple reasons when you take into account art style, the artist themselves and the above. So how does one determine what game is better looking than another? I feel that there are multiple things that need to be taken into account before I could say one game is the best looking. To me it would seem more logical to say one game of a comparative gen/size is something we could determine as to what is better or not better looking.
I look at it like this....in order to get 64 on the screen, the character will have to look like this:
If we are going with the linear approach like The Order, we can put 10 characters on the screen that look like this:
Take a look at that game, MAG.....fun game...but have you seen what the environment looks like and the characters when there are 256 people on the screen?
How do you personally determine when a game is the BEST looking?
