Yes, I'd even say Generic Shooter #504 is better then another FF rehash.

hakanakumono

FF rehash? Have you even played it?

It's funny when people who know nothing about FF try to insult it. It usually results in comments like this and calling "futuristic" locations like in XIII "mediocre" when 9/10 RPGs use stock medieval fantasy locations that lack an ounce of the creativity that is put into Final Fantasy games.

FF is a great series, but even at that Final Fantasy Tactics is my faviourite, and it's essentially a spin off. It has everything really. In my opinion the most mature and well told story of all the Final Fantasy's I've played, the most in depth gameplay, excellent presentation etc. I could go on. It's just a fantastic RPG. To call it a rehash shows a complete misunderstanding of what the game is capable of. It's not even similar to other Final Fantasys past the standard names, items, effects, etc. shared between them.

Having said that I think some of the older FF games are really quite overrated. I wasn't that struck on 4. The plot was very cliched to say the least, and the gameplay was a pretty basic affair, I liked the characters though. The problem with alot of earlier FF games is they pretty much just use same medieval setting for every game. The newer games tried alot harder in that respect, and I enjoyed them alot more.

its one of the best easily. its one of my top 5 games period. i,d kill to see a real sequel, the DS versions were over simplified. but fun i gotta say, just not nearly as deep.

Is IS the best SRPG that is a JRPG but it doesn't surpass Heroes of Might and Magic by any means.

Ahhh, best....In what way? Actual quality or fact? Enjoyment? I don't think it's the best because I don't know which is but I do know I've enjoyed others more. Not because they are better in any way but because I'm freakishly weird like that.

Sadly I never had played it, but I really love Fire Emblem: The Scared Stones and Jeanne D'Arc.

Wanderer5

Jeanna D'Arc is a SRPG that doesn't get enough attention. It's not nearly as complex as the others, but it's a great story. Almost like a great stepping stone into the more complex games. It was for me at least.

Yeah it did have a great story. And despite not being as complex as other SRPG the game was fun, challenging, and pretty balance. It is a underrated gem on the PSP IMO.

I believe FFT is the most popular TBS RPG. Valkyria Chronicles is getting a lot of love this generation.

I'm not sure about FFT, but I think Silent Storm easily has the best gameplay of the genre, so that gets my vote.

Nothing beats Fire Emblem in the turnbase strategy department imo, well maybe Advance Wars(nah but it is a close second). I love Final Fantasy Tactics(still have not beaten it got to get my unmentionable back up and running), but there are better TBS out there(maybe not so much in the story department).

Hm yeah, good point.
I mainly went with Silent Storm because of the destruction physics on everything, but any of X-Com/Jagged Alliance/Silent Storm would be a great choice.

I'm going to go with... no. I don't get the FFT love. Sure, its good, but I don't think its the best SRPG out there. One of favourite is Front Mission 3. I haven't played enough of them to know which is the "best."

In my opinion, yes it is. I love it. Strangely, Jeanne d'Arc gave FFT a hard run for its money recently though. Disgaea just did not hook me like I hoped it would. I will retry playing it after I graduate in December and have more free time.

I feel the same way about FFIV and the earlier games It is very overrated, as well as FFVI (although it's a great game ...). The modern Final Fantasies are really creative.

No other games, fire emblem and disgaea included come close to touching the depth of FFT. In many other cases, TBSRPGs also end up being too kiddie to really appeal to the same people who played FFT. D&D Tactics came out for the PSP and could have been good if the menuing system wasn't so godawful. That one flaw literally killed the game. Until a game offers the deep classes and amazing interplay between classes that FFT has (only with more!), it will be king of the turn based tactical RPGs.

While I enjoyed FFT and Fire Emblem (I wasn't a huge fan of it's "Rock, Paper, Scissors" gameplay in FE), for me it has to be Disgaea. The freedom it allows, the hilarious story, (who didn't laugh when you first heard Flonne say "Nin nin nin"), and the fact it doesn't take itself seriously wins it for me. Final Fantasys storys are so overblown, and serious, it didn't grip me as much as Disgaea. Who can forget the Horse Wiener joke, or Thursday saying "Jeez Louise", or the damn Prism Rangers

Those kinds of things don't just ruin the game, but they also ruin the whole genre. Not to mention... No - none of that stuff is funny - ever. I looked at Disgaea for the DS and I didn't laugh once. It was for kids and even I know, if you wanna make kids laugh, you do it by being vulgar.

So you don't laugh at wiener jokes? Wow, remind me NOT to ever hang out with you. It was crude, but it was fresh, and charming. Something I never expected from a game that tackles such deep underlying issues such as good vs evil. If you think that ruins a genre, yet a game that trudges along with it's same old cliche'd tedious storyline (FFT), then fair enough.

How can FFT be a rehash when it's completely unlike any other game in the series?

I find a rehash comment especially ironic coming from someone who plays eroges

I don't see it. There is no humor there, it's cheap and a lot of people sit there romancing gimmicks. There is no good or evil in Disgaea, just a bunch of pre-pubescent kids using sqwaky voices. That's not evil, that's annoying and fake.

Fire Emblem for me. Fire Emblem 4, the one with Sigrun where the maps are huge and you have castles, was the best one by far. Path of Radiance and the ones released in the United States are good and all, but they don't match up to 4.

Have you even completed it? The whole story is based on how demons are viewed as evil, and angels are viewed as good. It's a nice twist on the old stale formula of demons threatening to destroy the earth and some pretty faced boy must save it ect ect.

The stupid music and the dorky dialogue is not "refreshing" it's annoying. I'm over the age of 18, I'm not going to play a game that prominently features a scantily clad little girl. Thanks but no thanks.

I was 21 when I played it and the dialog voice overs were hilariously bad, I loved it. It's the only japanese game / anime that I actually prefered the English VOs to. Plus I found, and still find Etna pretty sexy. Also, you know the DS version is terrible right? But it's only my opinion, and you have yours, thats cool. ;)

Wait wait... did you call Disgaeas music stupid? That's unforgivable. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QCAdtd3Eknc Unrivaled!! :P

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8YqYlkdFmC8&NR=1 Heres some music when it enters serious mode. You may dislike Disgaea but never ever say it's music is stupid. /rages :P

Disgaea says hi.

Disgaea destroys FF tactics in every way possible. I'd even say that Fallout Tactics is also a much better game.

Final Fantasy Tactics, Ogre Battle, Disgaea, Bahamut Lagoon, Jagged Alliance, Fire Emblem, no doubt they are all great turn-based strategy/RPG games, but nothing tops the good old X-COM: Ufo Defense.

If you're 14 or have no taste what so ever, sure. But for the rest of the world, Tactics is actually playable.

I never said that it wasn't playable.
