Killzone 2 is easily an FPS classic, even if it wasn't your type of FPS. At the time, it was well received and built a strong fanbase that exists today. GG looked at the market, and saw potential to put their own spin on the FPS genre. With Horizon Zero Dawn, they came up with a fresh idea on the post apocalyptic world and created a mishmash of things we love from games like Assassin's Creed, Skyrim, and Zelda. This is the type of thing gamers want. They want games that aren't just inspired by other good games, but also add their own take on things. I think Guerilla Games deserves credit. Wouldn't you agree, SW? They don't get talked about much, and that's why I think they are underrated.

Yes. Killzone 2 was brilliant, much better than Halo games. Killzone was like Tesla: underappreciated geniality while Halo was like Edison: good marketing but no Tesla. With HZD, GG will reach its much deserved recognition.

OMG, this circle jerk is annoying.

Yes, Horizon is a great game and im loving it so far.

To say that they came up with a fresh idea..............based on a mishmash is comical.

They made a great game. Lets let it stand for itself.

Over time, the honeymoon phase wears off and people tend to review it with fresh eyes.

Same happened with UC4, MGS5, tons of others.

This circle jerk you guys do does more harm to the games image than anything else.

Let the great game stand on its own without over praising it and its developers

I thought he was talking about Killzone 2 vs Halo 3 at the era during when both were release and Killzone 2 did give Halo 3 some really good competition back then.

Zero Dawn is really great, loving it so far. I'm only praising the game itself, nothing more but this is coming from a guy who enjoy the hell out of Witcher 3, Zero Dawn doesn't really outshines Witcher 3's level but the game itself is as good as it comes.

As for Uncharted 4 & MGS5, I played both of them but nothing really to brag about them, I had fun playing those games but that's about it.

lol, as if Horizon was any creative. It's really just Enslaved with the typical Ubisoft formula. If Ubisoft made this game, it would get average scores. Also Killzone 2 was okay, nothing more. Sure it was an average FPS, but it's nowhere near Halo or other actually good FPSs

Each of their games have been a mixed bag of good and bad. They're brilliant on their end from the production value side of things, not quite as good as far as aspects of gameplay design and story are concerned. They're definitely a talented studio nonetheless. Underrated, no, as they had yet to really prove themselves until recently, so it seems. I've yet to play Horizon: Zero Dawn so I've yet to discover for myself if this is really all its cracked up to be, or just another so-called masterpiece propped up by the Sony Borg. I still plan to find out for myself, in due time, but I got Legend of Zelda coming with my new Switch in a just a couple of days =D

I will no doubt play it eventually, got a PS4 to play it's notable exclusives and this is no doubt a notable exclusive worth trying.

Horizon is the first time they have made a game worth a damn. So far, they've gotten far more respect than they deserved based on their prior work, but Horizon shows there is far more talent latent in the studio than you'd expect from their prior body of work.

From what I've seen and heard (haven't played their games) they seem highly overrated. The only thing that's good is the graphics and animations, and that is what people hype and wont stop talking about. People who don't really like games, but instead like to brag about how good their games look, I suppose. Gameplay seems a bit shit / uninteresting with their games. Horizon seems pretty good, though. For a FarCry that isn't FarCry.

GG = Gaming Gods. Killzone 2 best multiplayer console shooter ever, only for ultra hardcore. Killzone SF best MP shooter on PS4. Horizon best console graphics and probably best PS4 single player game to date.

I have the Killzone games on the PS3. They're okay games in that they were solidly coded.

As far as standing out? There's nothing else that makes them stand out from their peers. Graphics? Nope. Both KZ games had that monochrome tinge when outdoors. KZ3 looked pretty nice indoors. But, again, nothing stands out. Story? Nope. Their environment settings? Nope. Pretty limited like most linear FPS games.

I played them with the DS3 controllers first followed by keyboard n mouse. Pretty average. I liked the Bot mode though. Plus, I like Malcolm McDowell's performance. I also loved the ATATs. I wished there were more of them in both games.

Perhaps, Horizon is their first great game. But, it's not my cup of tea just like FC: Primal.

They are surely one of the best in the world. Sony have the best studios and the best games so its really hard to choose between them. If Guerrilla were first party for someone else the respective fanboys would be calling them GOAT.

I would say so, I was a big fan of Killzone 2&3.

Though the story and characters were nothing spectacular. I really liked the gunplay and setting in those shooters.

Plus the graphics were really something on PS3.

I've never played a GG game. Well, I played the KZ2 demo at one point and it seemed quite good - as a big fan of Halo back in the day I'm not sure what, based on the demo, makes Halo a far superior game unless one is focused on the SP (which I don't know for sure - having only played the KZ2 demo - but I suspect is less "epic" in KZ2). As for the arena action, it seemed like a wholly comparable FPS for the PS brand. But I was kind of done with MP FPS at that stage except for the odd match of UT on my PC, and never bothered to buy KZ2.

From the looks of things, though Horizon is a great game, and perhaps benefits from the creative juices flowing in the dev team - once you've worked on many instalments of the same IP for years and years I imagine it is extremely exciting to branch out and do something completely different (for yourself).

On the "completely different" note - LOL at all the people trying to tear it down because it has mechanics and stuff that other games have had. Yeah. Ok. Show me a game you cherish on your platform that doesn't have anything from some good (or bad) game at some point in the past. If your criterion for how good a game is is based on it being 95+% something you have literally never seen before in gaming, then you better hope you haven't played more than a couple of games because it's all downhill from here, my friend. It's very hard at this point to create a story, a setting, a combination of mechanics, etc, that has never been done before. IMO the real question is solely "is the combination of stuff they came up with FUN?"

They were a pretty pictures studio for the most part, making competent enough shooters with KZ2's MP being their one legit claim. Overrated if anything.

But if Horizon is the real deal then cool. That would mean they've finally earned their place.

Nope. I mean Killzone games look good for their respective systems and dev are really talented in pushing the visual capability on limited platforms but those games control like shit and neither the AI, writing, map design nor gameplay mechanics are anything special. Most people who thinks they are comparative to Bungies Halo games are likely Sony fanboys or they never tried a Halo game.

Hopefully Horizon will elevate my opinion of the developers.

not really.

they are really good at getting great results out of the hardware they are working on. they really pushed the PS3 and also made the vita sing. they make games that are really good at showing off what a console can do. right up there with naughty dog.

but killzone 2 is pretty meh (3 is on the to do list but from by brief play it looks like just more of the same). they are not bad (i was playing 2 recently and started into 3 a bit). they dont do anything horribly wrong. but they are pretty bland. by no metric can they be rated a classic.

i do like the look of horizon though. the noise around it also generally positive. if i had a PS4 i would pick it up. also credit where its due (should be highlighted in this day and age): it looks like performance is also very solid and consistent overall so pat on the back for that.

KZ 2-3 were good. KZ1 (ps2) was horrid, but the HD remade version was a tad better. Overall, a quality FPS franchise that needs more improvement in the future. Don't have a PS4 or played KZSF.

Killzone 2 still holds up graphically better then modern COD games. Killzone 2 and 3 were both superb shooters. GG are definatly under rated devs. I don't like the look of Horizon but thats just my person preference. I would love to see GG get the respect they deserve. I would love to see some more Killzone on par with KZ2 & KZ3.

lol what do you mean by their prior body of work? There's a reason why Killzone had so many games. The original PS3 games were great, and were critically and publicly well received.

This. I honestly thought HZD was going to be a piece of crap due. I was pleasantly surprised and wrong, but let's not get into crazy revisionist history where we start putting Killzone on the level of classic shooters that were far superior.

lol no they are not

After making shit like Killzone, Killzone 3, Killzone Shadowfall, I'd say they are lucky to still land multi-million dollar contracts at all.

My god did K3 blow. First time ever I returned a game to the store the next day and felt good even though I lost money. What a piece of steamy hot shit!

Exactly, I enjoyed both games, but as far a GG being underrated, I disagree because they finally made a game that can Truly be the face of the PS brand. The KZ games where but I think the Resistant's games where better in my opinion, I really wish that franchise would have went next-gen.

If anything Killzone 2 and 3 were overrated. With Horizon it looks like they found their calling so I hope their future is better because their past is unimpressive imo.

Killzone 2 sucked. Okay, maybe it didn't suck, but it was definitely mediocre in every single way.

I haven't played Horizon, but from what I've seen, I may enjoy it for a bit, until it becomes same old and forces me to quit.

So no, I don't think they're underrated. If anything, I think they're overrated.

The last killzone game was amazing but my only issue with killzone games is how slow the gameplay is especially when it comes to the characters and whatnot, guess i got used to playing fast based FPS games but i just enjoy fast based FPS's lol

anyways hella excited for Horizon i literally just ordered a copy from amazon (thank you amazon prime for my games a little cheaper lol), i waited this long to buy the game in hopes for the LE to be available but guess its completely sold out, i should have ordered the LE when it was available.. sigh
