Is Half Life 2 the greatest first person shooter of al time?

Half Life 2 was my favorite game till very rececntly. Now that I have time I was replaying it along side episode 1 and 2 and I have to say that I've forgotten how awesome this game is.

I was trying to figure out why and I found it to be difficult. The game just feel superior to the other. Maybe it's the AI mixed with smart scripted events. Maybe it's the level design, the characters, the atmosphere. Probably all of them. I don't know. I just love it, even firing the guns feel better than in most games.

I've played a lot of great fps, but no one comes close to HL2 and its episodes. What do you guys think.

I enjoyed the original HL more than HL2 and the episodes, so that's a no for me.

I can't really say that there'll be a greatest FPS of all time.

They seem to age pretty badly compared to other genres, IMO.

I find Half-Life 2 to be one of the most overrated games of all time. It's a great game though.

I find Half-Life 2 to be one of the most overrated games of all time. It's a great game though.

Half-Life is alright, not my favorite video game series. It does extremely well with atmosphere but its pacing at times falls short, and the story has been weakend due to a slient protagonist that is unrelatable too in any way, and because the story has yet to conclude. The ending to Half-Life 2 was as bad as the ending to Halo 2, and the ending to Episode 2 was even worse.

While adecent game, HL2 is overrated. Its engine feels incredibly sterile and the world lifeless, the enemy A.I. is as brain dead as they come with the soldiers simply standing there to be gunned down like pop-up cardboard targets, and the vehicle sections were terrible and far too long and drawn out. The weapons felt weak, although there were a few neat ones (the crossbow that could pin guys to the walls).

A good game, but far from the best FPS ever made.

I didn't play it when it released on the PC,since I don't own a gaming PC, and I purchased it for the 360 when the Orange Box was released. I guess I was spoiled by the many great FPS games that were out then, and before then, like Bioshock,Rainbow 6,Call of Duty 4, and Halo 3. So it didn't blow me away like it probably did to a lot of PC gamers when it launched. Still a good game, but I wish they would've increased those bloody achievements, instead of giving me only 10 points here, and there!! Those addictive achievements! Curse them!

I think HL1 is far better then HL2, and even HL1 had tough competition, Sin was pretty much an equal to Halflife back then, HL2 is just overrated, but then again, every shooter out since 2001 (give or take) is so overrated it is not even funny, most run higher on hype, then actual quality.

Half Life really did something for the genre. Half Life 2 is only a good game of the bunch that fanboys pull along side it's younger sibling and proclaim it as the best FPS ever. It doesn't even have very good shooting elements. The only pros I find is the storytelling and puzzles, so maybe greatest Action Adventure where you shoot a lot of all time? Because greatest shooter, hell no.

Half Life 2 is amazing. And that's coming from someone who played it his first time on the PS3.

No. As a FPS it isn't that good, but it's story-telling is where it truly shines (even thought it doesn't have a very good story). The characters (mainly Alyx) are great too.

Half-Life 2 is still a great game to this day.
