Poll Is it arrogant to think of pc as the "proper" place for RPG's? (88 votes)
My friends, is it arrogant to think of the proper "place" for western RPG's? That, in order to be great, they should be primarily built or purely built with pc in mind?

It's arrogant to think PC is superior, period.
Yeah because facts doesn't show it is in fact superior.
Fuk logic - consolites
Oh yeah, because opinions are totally facts.
is it opinion that it can run games at better resolutions? better fps? all eye candy on? that has mods? that you save a lot in games?
which games are better THAT'S subjective, which one runs them better, that's not.
No, those are facts.
However, it is purely an opinion that all of that stuff is required to have fun. I am perfectly content with my consoles, thank you very much. I know there are a lot of factual advantages with PC, but whether or not those make the experience any less worthwhile on consoles is a matter of opinion. and that is that.
My friends, as soon as Dragon Age was announced for consoles, the response was "this will ruin the series".
Then, reality rewarded this viewpoint with vindication.
It did ruin the series - they released Dragon age dynasty warriors extreme 2 edition. God how awful that game was. There's no reason for that combat system besides putting it on consoles.
WTF are you talking about Dragon age started on PC, 360 and PS 3 so how in the hell could it ruin it if it always on it? Dragon age never moved to consoles because it was always on consoles and lets face it Dragon age was nothing to write home about it was dated even back than.
dragon age was a PC exclusive. Bioware started working on the console versions when EA picked them up.
It doesn't have to be built with the PC in mind, but lately PC has had all the best RPG's imo. Divinity; Original Sin is a prime example.

This is the most rational and level headed argument I've seen on the PC vs console debate. And given the nature of System Wars, that's saying A LOT.

Actually I have to agree with you in a way. I used to only have consoles when I was young then I got a great computer when I was older. Its like when you get a new console, you don't want to go back and play your old one as much or even at all. If you have not owned better it is easy to be content and enjoy a worse experience easily.

there is a difference with being content and being better fyi, if you are happy with consoles, great for you, but you didn't say that, you clearly stated "It's arrogant to think PC is superior" which is in fact superior, difference between facts and opinions, you know. You prefer consoles well, that's different, but don't argue that pc is factually better.
Well its were western RPGs started.
Plus if it wasn't for PC exclusive RPGs like Ultima, Baldur's Gate, Planscape, Elder Scrolls 2 Daggerfall, Icewind Dale and Diablo 1 and 2.
The whole RPG genre would be extinct.
I think wRPGs were damaged heavily by console centric development. That said, this happened in the past. Those devs still continue to make those console centric games, but at the same time there have been ressurgence of classic cRPG styled games.
So I don't think it's the "proper place for wRPGs". but it sure as hell is the only place for them that matters.
Well, if you think about the awesome RPG games we got since the SNES time, then it's not only arrogant, but most of all, it's ignorant to affirm that. Don't see why separate between western RPG or anything else since if there are good RPGs on a platform it's already proven that it's all up to devs...
All genres can be enjoyed on consoles.
But there's a risk games are changed and dumbed down for consoles when they're in mind during development, like the dramatic change in direction with the Crysis series. The first Crysis is completely different from the other two.

But consoles have shooters that are more open than the original Crysis.
@HalcyonScarlet: I agree. Buying Crisis tomorrow for PC, having only played the console version I'm really looking forward to it. Gotta admit I still enjoyed crysis 2, 3 not so much.
RTS haven't been stellar on console but I did enjoy BFME2 and halo wars because I love LOTR and halo.
Yep. I see no reason WRPGs can't work on consoles. Most of them are just fine with a console based interface.
PC is proper place for not only RPG but FPS too.
when making RPG in console in mind, they suffer as a result we have seen bad games like mass effect, skyrim, fallout 3. same as FPS and see how they become. COD, battlefield. because they are build with console in mind
Torchlight 2, witcher (time PC exclusive) and now divinity orignal sin are best RPG in years. while hard reset and shadow warrior are best FPS in years
reason? PC build games
console are better for action adventure, fighting stuff like that genre. but not FPS or RPG.
well at least you didn't say STALKER
hush, sniper4321 might hear you
It's exclusive to a console because of publishing deals and funding, not because the PS3 is a better platform for game than the PC, because it's not
Well, the souls series, and any good third person RPG (TW series) are obviously better with a controller due to the point of view.
Every other sub genre is obviously better on PC because the huge amount of possibilities with hotkeys are perfect for their complexity.
pc sucks all the best games come to consoles, go start another petition for Final Fantasy 15 and Kingdom Hearts 3.
scrubs.
And yet the best RPG to come out in 15 years is console exclusive.
I'm sure you'll be able to emulate it in 10 years or so but until then cry.
right because the 2 as good sequels aren't in pc
Dark Souls 2 isn't anywhere near as good as Dark/Demons Souls, and many would argue Dark Souls isn't as good as Demon's Souls.
Also, Dragon's Dogma--one of the best RPGS of the gen (and probably the most underrated game in the past few years)--is console exclusive.

i played the three of them and dark souls is the better one, demons souls and dark souls 2 being close to it but not quite. Also lol at dragon's dogma, it's good but nowhere near the best, but you should ask your mommy how opinions work.

1. apart from few exclusive every third party game is on PC
2. keep those crap on console.
so i dont think so
Divinity is an interesting series. The original was a pc built game like Diablo. Then, with Divinity 2, it became built with console in mind. Now, with a pc game listening to the masterrace input (because pc gamers are experts we should all admire) a masterpiece has been born, well beyond the comprehension of console gaming.
When you think about it... Wasteland 2, pillars of eternity, Divinity: Original sin, while console gaming has been killing "intelligent" gaming for years now, pc gamers have saved it, heroically. You guys are the best.

To paraphrase what I meant with that post.
PC is the proper place for w or cRPGs. Nothing arrogant about claiming this, it is the same with Strategy games and Shooters.
PC is not the proper place for RPGs, that would be tabletop. This was mostly just a jab at the title though.
Edit: While I am at it, I will just say that I can't enjoy a single wRPG game on consoles. I do enjoy plenty of wRPGs on PC however, because the controls are better, the exclusive wRPGs on PC have a lot more depth, and in the case of games made by a certain wRPG dev, mods make their games really worthwhile. Divinity Original Sin is better than any wRPG I have played on any console or has a console version... ever.

No I don't think it's wrong to say PC is THE place for RPGs.

i know. he's discriminating against guys like me who have sexual intercourse.
"intercourse"
i think i've just thought of the name for my inter-city golf tournament.
Is it pretty arrogant to say America is the proper place to eat a hamburger?
yes it is i went some of the "best" burger places there and i was not impressed.

You can use a gamepad on PC, so it's still better on PC.
Theres no debate to be had, PC is better. It's not arrogance, it's fact.
When theres a poor PC port of a console game, it's not PC, it's the developer at fault. If a game plays better with a gamepad, hook up a gamepad. If you'd rather play on your tv, hook the PC up to the tv.
The only, the one and only instance I can even think of where consoles have any sort of advantage is split screen support, which is a little more common on consoles than PC.
Well, the souls series, and any good third person RPG (TW series) are obviously better with a controller due to the point of view.
I disagree. It depends on how the combat is made. If it has free aiming (like in Mass Effect or Risen series) it's most of the time better on mouse. Just like THird person shooters are. For it to be better on a pad you need some sort of auto lock mechanism in place.
Consoles don't have RPGs with complexity of PC RPGs . The only game that I can think of is Demon Souls but lack of story makes it not-so-compelling for me (Unlike games like Witcher) . Then there are games like Divinity : Original Sin , Legend of Grimrock , Torchlight 2 etc .
Not just RPGs but Point and Click Adventures like The Book of Unwritten Tales , RTS like Starcraft 2 or Sins of Solar Empire etc won't be on consoles any time soon .
As mentioned above , PC gamers helped devs to keep old school genres alive . Otherwise , it would've been all about action games with few tacked on RPG elements (Shamelessly known as RPGs these days) .
PC is best place for all of those games .

Exactly plus we get to play the streamlined mainstream games at ridiculous resolutions, max settings and high FPS and then mod them wherever possible to add complexity and depth.
On a sidenote: a game like Divinity Original Sin has now raised the bar so high that the expectations for future crowd-funded PC exclusives is through the roof. Dev's will have no excuses and will have to deliver top drawer, polished experiences to the fans as well as providing all that old school variety and multi-faceted gameplay that we crave. There can be no debate that you get the most diverse, well-rounded gaming experience on PC across all genres.

How does the point of view make a controller more effective than mouse/kb?
